1 V reau să spun că, atât timp cât moştenitorul este copil, nu este diferit de un sclav, cu toate că el este proprietarul tuturor lucrurilor,

Now I say, as long as the heir is a child, he does not differ at all from a slave although he is owner of everything,

2 c i el se află sub îngrijirea tutorilor şi a administratorilor până la timpul desemnat de tatăl său.

but he is under guardians and managers until the date set by the father.

3 A stfel, şi noi, când eram copii, eram sub sclavia principiilor lumii.

So also we, while we were children, were held in bondage under the elemental things of the world.

4 D ar, la împlinirea vremii, Dumnezeu Şi-a trimis Fiul, născut din femeie, născut sub Lege,

But when the fullness of the time came, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the Law,

5 c a să-i răscumpere pe cei ce sunt sub Lege, pentru ca noi să primim înfierea.

so that He might redeem those who were under the Law, that we might receive the adoption as sons.

6 I ar pentru că voi sunteţi fii, Dumnezeu a trimis Duhul Fiului Său în inimile noastre, Duh care strigă „Abba!“, adică „Tată!“

Because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into our hearts, crying, “ Abba! Father!”

7 A stfel, tu nu mai eşti sclav, ci fiu, iar dacă eşti fiu, Dumnezeu te-a făcut şi moştenitor. Grija lui Pavel pentru galateni

Therefore you are no longer a slave, but a son; and if a son, then an heir through God.

8 A tunci când voi nu-L cunoşteaţi pe Dumnezeu eraţi sclavii celor ce nu sunt dumnezei.

However at that time, when you did not know God, you were slaves to those which by nature are no gods.

9 D ar acum, când Îl cunoaşteţi pe Dumnezeu sau, mai degrabă, sunteţi cunoscuţi de Dumnezeu, cum de vă întoarceţi din nou la acele principii sărace şi slabe? Vreţi să deveniţi din nou sclavii lor?

But now that you have come to know God, or rather to be known by God, how is it that you turn back again to the weak and worthless elemental things, to which you desire to be enslaved all over again?

10 V oi ţineţi zile, luni, anotimpuri şi ani.

You observe days and months and seasons and years.

11 M i-e teamă ca, nu cumva, să mă fi ostenit în zadar pentru voi.

I fear for you, that perhaps I have labored over you in vain.

12 F raţilor, vă rog, fiţi ca mine, pentru că şi eu sunt ca voi! Nu mi-aţi făcut nici un rău.

I beg of you, brethren, become as I am, for I also have become as you are. You have done me no wrong;

13 V oi ştiţi că în neputinţa trupului v-am vestit Evanghelia prima oară.

but you know that it was because of a bodily illness that I preached the gospel to you the first time;

14 Ş i n-aţi dispreţuit, nici nu v-a fost scârbă faţă de ceea ce era o ispită pentru voi în trupul meu, ci m-aţi primit ca pe un înger al lui Dumnezeu, ca pe Cristos Isus.

and that which was a trial to you in my bodily condition you did not despise or loathe, but you received me as an angel of God, as Christ Jesus Himself.

15 A şadar, unde este acea fericire a voastră? Vă mărturisesc că, dacă aţi fi putut, v-aţi fi scos până şi ochii şi mi i-aţi fi dat!

Where then is that sense of blessing you had? For I bear you witness that, if possible, you would have plucked out your eyes and given them to me.

16 A cum, pentru că v-am spus adevărul, am devenit oare duşmanul vostru?

So have I become your enemy by telling you the truth?

17 E i sunt plini de râvnă faţă de voi, dar nu spre bine, ci ei vor să vă despartă de noi, ca să fiţi plini de râvnă pentru ei.

They eagerly seek you, not commendably, but they wish to shut you out so that you will seek them.

18 E ste bine ca întotdeauna să fiţi plini de râvnă pentru un scop bun, nu doar când sunt eu cu voi.

But it is good always to be eagerly sought in a commendable manner, and not only when I am present with you.

19 C opiii mei, pentru care sufăr din nou durerile naşterii până când Cristos va lua chip în voi,

My children, with whom I am again in labor until Christ is formed in you—

20 a ş vrea să pot fi cu voi şi să-mi schimb tonul, pentru că sunt nedumerit cu privire la voi! Sara şi Agar

but I could wish to be present with you now and to change my tone, for I am perplexed about you. Bond and Free

21 S puneţi-mi voi, care doriţi să fiţi sub Lege, nu auziţi ce spune Legea?

Tell me, you who want to be under law, do you not listen to the law?

22 E ste scris că Avraam a avut doi fii: unul dintr-o sclavă, iar unul dintr-o femeie liberă.

For it is written that Abraham had two sons, one by the bondwoman and one by the free woman.

23 C el din sclavă a fost născut în chip firesc, însă cel din femeia liberă a fost născut prin promisiune.

But the son by the bondwoman was born according to the flesh, and the son by the free woman through the promise.

24 A cest fapt poate fi luat ca o alegorie: aceste două femei reprezintă două legăminte. Unul este cel de pe muntele Sinai, născând copii pentru sclavie – şi anume Agar.

This is allegorically speaking, for these women are two covenants: one proceeding from Mount Sinai bearing children who are to be slaves; she is Hagar.

25 A gar este muntele Sinai din Arabia şi corespunde Ierusalimului de acum, pentru că este în sclavie cu copiii lui;

Now this Hagar is Mount Sinai in Arabia and corresponds to the present Jerusalem, for she is in slavery with her children.

26 d ar Ierusalimul de sus este liber şi el este mama noastră.

But the Jerusalem above is free; she is our mother.

27 C ăci este scris: „Bucură-te, stearpo, tu, care nu poţi naşte! Izbucneşte în chiuituri şi strigă, tu, care nu eşti în durerile naşterii! Căci copiii femeii părăsite vor fi mai mulţi decât ai celei care are soţ.“

For it is written, “ Rejoice, barren woman who does not bear; Break forth and shout, you who are not in labor; For more numerous are the children of the desolate Than of the one who has a husband.”

28 V oi, fraţilor, ca şi Isaac, sunteţi copii ai promisiunii.

And you brethren, like Isaac, are children of promise.

29 D ar aşa cum atunci cel născut în chip firesc l-a persecutat pe cel născut prin puterea Duhului, la fel este şi acum.

But as at that time he who was born according to the flesh persecuted him who was born according to the Spirit, so it is now also.

30 C e spune însă Scriptura? „Alung-o pe sclavă şi pe fiul ei, pentru că fiul sclavei nu va moşteni împreună cu fiul femeii libere!“

But what does the Scripture say? “ Cast out the bondwoman and her son, For the son of the bondwoman shall not be an heir with the son of the free woman.”

31 A şadar, fraţilor, noi nu suntem copiii sclavei, ci ai femeii libere.

So then, brethren, we are not children of a bondwoman, but of the free woman.
