1 A m tânjit toată noaptea, în patul meu, după iubitul inimii mele; am tânjit după el, dar el n-a venit.

“ On my bed night after night I sought him Whom my soul loves; I sought him but did not find him.

2 Î nsă acum mă voi ridica şi voi străbate cetatea, voi merge pe străzile şi în pieţele ei; îl voi căuta pe iubitul inimii mele! L-am căutat, dar nu l-am găsit.

‘ I must arise now and go about the city; In the streets and in the squares I must seek him whom my soul loves.’ I sought him but did not find him.

3 M -au găsit santinelele care dădeau ocol cetăţii. „Nu l-aţi văzut pe iubitul inimii mele?“

“ The watchmen who make the rounds in the city found me, And I said, ‘Have you seen him whom my soul loves?’

4 D e-abia trecusem de ei şi l-am găsit pe iubitul inimii mele! L-am prins şi nu l-am mai lăsat până nu l-am adus în casa mamei mele, în odaia celei ce m-a născut.

“ Scarcely had I left them When I found him whom my soul loves; I held on to him and would not let him go Until I had brought him to my mother’s house, And into the room of her who conceived me.”

5 V ă conjur, fiice ale Ierusalimului, pe gazelele şi pe căprioarele câmpului: nu stârniţi şi nu treziţi iubirea până când nu-i va face ei plăcere! Corul

“ I adjure you, O daughters of Jerusalem, By the gazelles or by the hinds of the field, That you will not arouse or awaken my love Until she pleases.” Solomon’s Wedding Day

6 C e se iveşte din pustie, ca nişte stâlpi de fum, parfumaţi cu smirnă şi cu tămâie, preparaţi din toate aromele negustorului?

“ What is this coming up from the wilderness Like columns of smoke, Perfumed with myrrh and frankincense, With all scented powders of the merchant?

7 I ată, este lectica lui Solomon, cu şaizeci de războinici în jurul ei, dintre bărbaţii cei mai viteji ai lui Israel,

“Behold, it is the traveling couch of Solomon; Sixty mighty men around it, Of the mighty men of Israel.

8 t oţi înarmaţi cu săbii şi având experienţă în luptă, fiecare purtându-şi sabia la şold, din cauza terorii din noapte.

“All of them are wielders of the sword, Expert in war; Each man has his sword at his side, Guarding against the terrors of the night.

9 R egele Solomon şi-a făcut această lectică din lemn de Liban.

“King Solomon has made for himself a sedan chair From the timber of Lebanon.

10 S tâlpii i-a făcut din argint, iar cadrul din aur. Scaunul a fost făcut din purpură, iar interiorul a fost împodobit cu piele de către fiicele Ierusalimului.

“He made its posts of silver, Its back of gold And its seat of purple fabric, With its interior lovingly fitted out By the daughters of Jerusalem.

11 I eşiţi, fiice ale Sionului, şi priviţi-l pe regele Solomon purtând coroana, coroana primită de la mama sa în ziua căsătoriei lui, în ziua bucuriei inimii lui!

“Go forth, O daughters of Zion, And gaze on King Solomon with the crown With which his mother has crowned him On the day of his wedding, And on the day of his gladness of heart.”
