After these things he left Athens and went to Corinth.

2 A colo a întâlnit un iudeu pe nume Aquila, de neam din Pont, care venise de curând din Italia împreună cu soţia lui, Priscila, deoarece Claudiu poruncise ca toţi iudeii să plece din Roma. Pavel s-a dus la ei

And he found a Jew named Aquila, a native of Pontus, having recently come from Italy with his wife Priscilla, because Claudius had commanded all the Jews to leave Rome. He came to them,

3 ş i, fiindcă erau de aceeaşi meserie, a rămas la ei şi lucrau împreună. Căci meseria lor era aceea de constructori de corturi.

and because he was of the same trade, he stayed with them and they were working, for by trade they were tent-makers.

4 Î n fiecare Sabat, Pavel purta discuţii în sinagogă şi-i convingea atât pe iudei, cât şi pe greci.

And he was reasoning in the synagogue every Sabbath and trying to persuade Jews and Greeks.

5 D ar când Silas şi Timotei au sosit din Macedonia, Pavel s-a dedicat în întregime predicării, depunând mărturie înaintea iudeilor că Isus este Cristosul.

But when Silas and Timothy came down from Macedonia, Paul began devoting himself completely to the word, solemnly testifying to the Jews that Jesus was the Christ.

6 C ând i s-au împotrivit şi l-au batjocorit, el şi-a scuturat praful de pe haine, zicând: „Sângele vostru să fie asupra capului vostru! Eu sunt curat. De acum încolo mă voi duce la neamuri!“

But when they resisted and blasphemed, he shook out his garments and said to them, “Your blood be on your own heads! I am clean. From now on I will go to the Gentiles.”

7 Ş i, după ce a ieşit de acolo, a intrat în casa unuia pe nume Titius Iustus, un om temător de Dumnezeu, a cărui casă era lângă sinagogă.

Then he left there and went to the house of a man named Titius Justus, a worshiper of God, whose house was next to the synagogue.

8 C risp, conducătorul sinagogii, a crezut în Domnul împreună cu toată casa lui şi, de asemenea, mulţi dintre corintienii care îl auziseră pe Pavel, au crezut şi ei şi au fost botezaţi.

Crispus, the leader of the synagogue, believed in the Lord with all his household, and many of the Corinthians when they heard were believing and being baptized.

9 N oaptea, Domnul i-a vorbit lui Pavel într-o viziune: „Nu te teme, ci vorbeşte şi nu tăcea,

And the Lord said to Paul in the night by a vision, “Do not be afraid any longer, but go on speaking and do not be silent;

10 c ăci Eu sunt cu tine şi nimeni nu va pune mâna pe tine ca să-ţi facă rău; vorbeşte, fiindcă am mult popor în această cetate!“

for I am with you, and no man will attack you in order to harm you, for I have many people in this city.”

11 P rin urmare, Pavel a stat acolo un an şi jumătate şi i-a învăţat Cuvântul lui Dumnezeu. Pavel înaintea proconsulului Galio

And he settled there a year and six months, teaching the word of God among them.

12 Î n timp ce Galio era proconsul al Ahaiei, iudeii s-au ridicat într-un singur gând împotriva lui Pavel, l-au dus înaintea scaunului de judecată

But while Gallio was proconsul of Achaia, the Jews with one accord rose up against Paul and brought him before the judgment seat,

13 ş i au zis: „Acesta incită oamenii să se închine lui Dumnezeu într-un fel care este împotriva Legii!“

saying, “This man persuades men to worship God contrary to the law.”

14 P avel tocmai voia să deschidă gura să vorbească, dar Galio le-a zis iudeilor: „Dacă ar fi vorba de vreun delict sau de vreo ticăloşie gravă, v-aş accepta plângerea, iudeilor;

But when Paul was about to open his mouth, Gallio said to the Jews, “If it were a matter of wrong or of vicious crime, O Jews, it would be reasonable for me to put up with you;

15 d ar, întrucât este o dispută cu privire la cuvinte, la nume şi la Legea voastră, vă priveşte! Eu nu vreau să fiu judecător în aceste lucruri!“

but if there are questions about words and names and your own law, look after it yourselves; I am unwilling to be a judge of these matters.”

16 Ş i i-a alungat de la scaunul de judecată.

And he drove them away from the judgment seat.

17 A tunci ei l-au apucat pe Sostenes, conducătorul sinagogii, şi l-au bătut chiar în faţa scaunului de judecată, fără ca lui Galio să-i pese de aceasta. Pavel se întoarce în Antiohia

And they all took hold of Sosthenes, the leader of the synagogue, and began beating him in front of the judgment seat. But Gallio was not concerned about any of these things.

18 P avel a rămas mai multe zile acolo. Apoi şi-a luat rămas bun de la fraţi şi a plecat pe mare spre Siria, împreună cu Priscila şi Aquila, după ce şi-a tuns capul în Chencrea, căci făcuse un jurământ.

Paul, having remained many days longer, took leave of the brethren and put out to sea for Syria, and with him were Priscilla and Aquila. In Cenchrea he had his hair cut, for he was keeping a vow.

19 A u ajuns în Efes, şi Pavel i-a lăsat acolo pe însoţitorii lui. El a intrat în sinagogă şi a purtat discuţii cu iudeii.

They came to Ephesus, and he left them there. Now he himself entered the synagogue and reasoned with the Jews.

20 A ceştia l-au rugat să rămână la ei mai mult timp, dar el nu a vrut,

When they asked him to stay for a longer time, he did not consent,

21 c i şi-a luat rămas bun de la ei, zicând: „(Trebuie neapărat ca sărbătoarea care vine s-o ţin în Ierusalim.) Dacă Dumnezeu vrea, mă voi întoarce din nou la voi!“ Şi a plecat din Efes, pe mare.

but taking leave of them and saying, “I will return to you again if God wills,” he set sail from Ephesus.

22 S -a dat jos în Cezareea, s-a dus şi a salutat biserica din Ierusalim şi apoi a coborât la Antiohia.

When he had landed at Caesarea, he went up and greeted the church, and went down to Antioch. Third Missionary Journey

23 D upă ce a petrecut un timp acolo, a plecat străbătând din loc în loc ţinutul Galatiei şi al Frigiei şi întărindu-i pe toţi ucenicii. Apolo

And having spent some time there, he left and passed successively through the Galatian region and Phrygia, strengthening all the disciples.

24 U n iudeu pe nume Apolos, de neam din Alexandria, care era un vorbitor elocvent şi un bun cunoscător al Scripturii, a venit în Efes.

Now a Jew named Apollos, an Alexandrian by birth, an eloquent man, came to Ephesus; and he was mighty in the Scriptures.

25 E l era instruit în ce priveşte Calea Domnului, vorbea cu un duh înfocat şi dădea învăţătură cu acurateţe despre lucrurile privitoare la Isus, deşi cunoştea numai botezul lui Ioan.

This man had been instructed in the way of the Lord; and being fervent in spirit, he was speaking and teaching accurately the things concerning Jesus, being acquainted only with the baptism of John;

26 A început să vorbească cu îndrăzneală în sinagogă, iar când Priscila şi Aquila l-au auzit, l-au luat acasă şi i-au explicat şi mai amănunţit Calea lui Dumnezeu.

and he began to speak out boldly in the synagogue. But when Priscilla and Aquila heard him, they took him aside and explained to him the way of God more accurately.

27 P entru că el voia să treacă în Ahaia, fraţii l-au încurajat şi au scris ucenicilor să-l primească bine. Când a ajuns, el le-a fost de mare ajutor celor ce, prin har, deveniseră credincioşi.

And when he wanted to go across to Achaia, the brethren encouraged him and wrote to the disciples to welcome him; and when he had arrived, he greatly helped those who had believed through grace,

28 C ăci el îi înfrunta pe iudei în public, dovedind pe baza Scripturilor că Isus este Cristosul.

for he powerfully refuted the Jews in public, demonstrating by the Scriptures that Jesus was the Christ.
