1 D ar un om pe nume Ananias, a vândut o proprietate împreună cu soţia lui, Safira,

But a man named Ananias, with his wife Sapphira, sold a piece of property,

2 ş i a păstrat pentru sine o parte din bani cu ştirea soţiei lui; apoi a adus cealaltă parte din bani şi a pus-o la picioarele apostolilor.

and kept back some of the price for himself, with his wife’s full knowledge, and bringing a portion of it, he laid it at the apostles’ feet.

3 P etru i-a zis: „Ananias, de ce ţi-a umplut Satan inima ca să-L minţi pe Duhul Sfânt, păstrând pentru tine o parte din preţul ogorului?

But Peter said, “Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and to keep back some of the price of the land?

4 D acă rămânea nevândut, nu rămânea el al tău? Şi, după ce a fost vândut, nu erau banii la dispoziţia ta? De ce ai pus la cale acest lucru în inima ta? Nu pe oameni i-ai minţit, ci pe Dumnezeu!“

While it remained unsold, did it not remain your own? And after it was sold, was it not under your control? Why is it that you have conceived this deed in your heart? You have not lied to men but to God.”

5 C ând a auzit Ananias aceste cuvinte, a căzut la pământ şi şi-a dat duhul. O mare frică i-a cuprins pe toţi cei ce auziseră aceste lucruri.

And as he heard these words, Ananias fell down and breathed his last; and great fear came over all who heard of it.

6 C ei tineri s-au ridicat, l-au învelit, l-au scos afară şi l-au îngropat.

The young men got up and covered him up, and after carrying him out, they buried him.

7 C am după trei ore, a intrat şi soţia lui, fără să ştie ce se întâmplase.

Now there elapsed an interval of about three hours, and his wife came in, not knowing what had happened.

8 P etru a întrebat-o: – Spune-mi, cu atât aţi vândut ogorul? Ea i-a răspuns: – Da, cu atât.

And Peter responded to her, “Tell me whether you sold the land for such and such a price?” And she said, “Yes, that was the price.”

9 A tunci Petru i-a zis: – De ce v-aţi înţeles între voi să-L puneţi la încercare pe Duhul Domnului? Iată, picioarele celor ce l-au îngropat pe soţul tău sunt la uşă şi te vor duce şi pe tine!

Then Peter said to her, “Why is it that you have agreed together to put the Spirit of the Lord to the test? Behold, the feet of those who have buried your husband are at the door, and they will carry you out as well.”

10 D intr-odată, ea a căzut la picioarele lui şi şi-a dat duhul. Când au intrat tinerii, au găsit-o moartă; au dus-o afară şi au îngropat-o lângă soţul ei.

And immediately she fell at his feet and breathed her last, and the young men came in and found her dead, and they carried her out and buried her beside her husband.

11 O mare frică a cuprins toată biserica şi pe toţi cei ce auziseră aceste lucruri. Prin apostoli se fac semne şi minuni

And great fear came over the whole church, and over all who heard of these things.

12 P rin mâinile apostolilor se făceau multe semne şi minuni în popor. Toţi se adunau în acelaşi gând în Porticul lui Solomon

At the hands of the apostles many signs and wonders were taking place among the people; and they were all with one accord in Solomon’s portico.

13 ş i nici unul din ceilalţi nu îndrăznea să li se alăture, deşi poporul îi lăuda foarte mult.

But none of the rest dared to associate with them; however, the people held them in high esteem.

14 T otuşi, tot mai mulţi oameni, o mulţime de bărbaţi şi femei care credeau în Domnul, erau adăugaţi la numărul lor,

And all the more believers in the Lord, multitudes of men and women, were constantly added to their number,

15 a stfel că oamenii îi scoteau pe străzi pe cei neputincioşi şi-i puneau pe tărgi şi pe aşternuturi, pentru ca, atunci când trecea Petru, măcar umbra lui să cadă peste vreunul dintre ei.

to such an extent that they even carried the sick out into the streets and laid them on cots and pallets, so that when Peter came by at least his shadow might fall on any one of them.

16 M ulţimea, de asemenea, se aduna din cetăţile din jurul Ierusalimului, aducându-i pe cei bolnavi şi pe cei chinuiţi de duhuri necurate; şi toţi erau vindecaţi. Apostolii persecutaţi

Also the people from the cities in the vicinity of Jerusalem were coming together, bringing people who were sick or afflicted with unclean spirits, and they were all being healed. Imprisonment and Release

17 Î nsă marele preot şi toţi cei ce erau împreună cu el, adică partida saducheilor, s-au sculat plini de invidie,

But the high priest rose up, along with all his associates (that is the sect of the Sadducees), and they were filled with jealousy.

18 a u pus mâinile pe apostoli şi i-au băgat în închisoarea publică.

They laid hands on the apostles and put them in a public jail.

19 D ar un înger al Domnului a deschis uşile închisorii în timpul nopţii, i-a condus afară şi le-a zis:

But during the night an angel of the Lord opened the gates of the prison, and taking them out he said,

20 „ Duceţi-vă, staţi în Templu şi spuneţi poporului toate cuvintele vieţii acesteia!“

“Go, stand and speak to the people in the temple the whole message of this Life.”

21 A uzind aceasta, ei au intrat în Templu dis-de-dimineaţă şi au început să dea învăţătură. Când a sosit marele preot şi cei ce erau împreună cu el, au convocat Sinedriul, adică toată adunarea bătrânilor fiilor lui Israel, şi au trimis după apostoli la închisoare, ca să fie aduşi.

Upon hearing this, they entered into the temple about daybreak and began to teach. Now when the high priest and his associates came, they called the Council together, even all the Senate of the sons of Israel, and sent orders to the prison house for them to be brought.

22 D ar gărzile, când au sosit acolo, nu i-au găsit în închisoare, aşa că s-au întors şi au anunţat

But the officers who came did not find them in the prison; and they returned and reported back,

23 s punând: „Închisoarea am găsit-o încuiată cu toată grija, iar pe gardieni i-am găsit stând la uşi, dar când am deschis, n-am găsit pe nimeni înăuntru!“

saying, “We found the prison house locked quite securely and the guards standing at the doors; but when we had opened up, we found no one inside.”

24 C ând au auzit cuvintele acestea, atât comandantul gărzii Templului, cât şi conducătorii preoţilor au rămas înmărmuriţi din pricina lor şi au început să se întrebe ce se întâmplă.

Now when the captain of the temple guard and the chief priests heard these words, they were greatly perplexed about them as to what would come of this.

25 C ineva însă a venit şi i-a anunţat: „Iată că bărbaţii pe care i-aţi băgat în închisoare stau în Templu şi dau învăţătură poporului!“

But someone came and reported to them, “The men whom you put in prison are standing in the temple and teaching the people!”

26 A tunci comandantul s-a dus împreună cu gărzile şi i-a adus, însă nu cu forţa, pentru că se temeau să nu fie loviţi cu pietre de popor.

Then the captain went along with the officers and proceeded to bring them back without violence (for they were afraid of the people, that they might be stoned).

27 I -au adus şi i-au pus să stea înaintea Sinedriului. Marele preot i-a întrebat

When they had brought them, they stood them before the Council. The high priest questioned them,

28 z icând: – (Nu) v-am poruncit răspicat să nu mai daţi învăţătură în Numele acesta? Dar iată că voi aţi umplut Ierusalimul cu învăţătura voastră şi vreţi să aruncaţi peste noi vina pentru sângele Acestui Om!

saying, “We gave you strict orders not to continue teaching in this name, and yet, you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching and intend to bring this man’s blood upon us.”

29 P etru şi ceilalţi apostoli i-au răspuns: – Trebuie să ascultăm mai mult de Dumnezeu decât de oameni!

But Peter and the apostles answered, “ We must obey God rather than men.

30 D umnezeul strămoşilor noştri L-a înviat pe Isus, Cel pe Care voi L-aţi prins şi L-aţi ucis pironindu-L pe lemn!

The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom you had put to death by hanging Him on a cross.

31 P e El, Dumnezeu L-a înălţat la dreapta Sa, ca Prinţ şi Mântuitor, ca să dea lui Israel pocăinţă şi iertare de păcate!

He is the one whom God exalted to His right hand as a Prince and a Savior, to grant repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of sins.

32 I ar noi suntem martori ai acestor lucruri şi, de asemenea, şi Duhul Sfânt pe Care L-a dat Dumnezeu celor ce ascultă de El!

And we are witnesses of these things; and so is the Holy Spirit, whom God has given to those who obey Him.” Gamaliel’s Counsel

33 C ând au auzit ei acestea, s-au înfuriat şi au vrut să-i omoare.

But when they heard this, they were cut to the quick and intended to kill them.

34 D ar un fariseu pe nume Gamaliel, un cărturar respectat de tot poporul, s-a ridicat în Sinedriu şi a poruncit ca oamenii să fie scoşi afară puţin.

But a Pharisee named Gamaliel, a teacher of the Law, respected by all the people, stood up in the Council and gave orders to put the men outside for a short time.

35 A poi le-a zis: „Bărbaţi israeliţi, luaţi seama ce aveţi de gând să le faceţi acestor oameni!

And he said to them, “Men of Israel, take care what you propose to do with these men.

36 C ăci, nu demult, s-a ridicat Teudas, care spunea despre sine că este cineva şi căruia i s-au alăturat aproape patru sute de bărbaţi. El a fost omorât, iar toţi cei ce-l urmaseră au fost împrăştiaţi şi nu s-a ales nimic de ei.

For some time ago Theudas rose up, claiming to be somebody, and a group of about four hundred men joined up with him. But he was killed, and all who followed him were dispersed and came to nothing.

37 D upă el, pe vremea recensământului, s-a ridicat Iuda, galileeanul, şi a tras pe popor după el. Dar şi el a pierit, iar cei ce-l urmaseră au fost împrăştiaţi.

After this man, Judas of Galilee rose up in the days of the census and drew away some people after him; he too perished, and all those who followed him were scattered.

38 I ar acum, eu vă spun: depărtaţi-vă de oamenii aceştia şi lăsaţi-i în pace! Dacă planul sau lucrarea aceasta este de la oameni, i se va pune capăt,

So in the present case, I say to you, stay away from these men and let them alone, for if this plan or action is of men, it will be overthrown;

39 d ar dacă este de la Dumnezeu nu-i veţi putea opri pe aceşti oameni! Să nu vă pomeniţi că luptaţi împotriva lui Dumnezeu!“

but if it is of God, you will not be able to overthrow them; or else you may even be found fighting against God.”

40 E i au fost convinşi de el. Apoi i-au chemat pe apostoli, i-au biciuit, le-au poruncit să nu mai vorbească în Numele lui Isus şi le-au dat drumul.

They took his advice; and after calling the apostles in, they flogged them and ordered them not to speak in the name of Jesus, and then released them.

41 P rin urmare, apostolii au plecat dinaintea Sinedriului, bucurându-se că au fost consideraţi vrednici să fie înjosiţi pentru Numele lui Isus.

So they went on their way from the presence of the Council, rejoicing that they had been considered worthy to suffer shame for His name.

42 Ş i, în fiecare zi, în Templu şi prin case, nu încetau să dea învăţătură şi să ducă vestea bună că Isus este Cristosul.

And every day, in the temple and from house to house, they kept right on teaching and preaching Jesus as the Christ.
