1 Î n al doilea an al domniei sale, Nebucadneţar a avut nişte vise care i-au tulburat atât de tare duhul, încât nu a mai avut somn.

Now in the second year of the reign of Nebuchadnezzar, Nebuchadnezzar had dreams; and his spirit was troubled and his sleep left him.

2 Î mpăratul a poruncit să fie chemaţi magicienii, descântătorii, vrăjitorii şi astrologii, ca să-i spună împăratului visele. Ei au venit şi s-au înfăţişat înaintea împăratului.

Then the king gave orders to call in the magicians, the conjurers, the sorcerers and the Chaldeans to tell the king his dreams. So they came in and stood before the king.

3 Î mpăratul le-a zis: – Am avut un vis şi duhul mi-e tulburat, căci aş vrea să aflu ce înseamnă visul!

The king said to them, “I had a dream and my spirit is anxious to understand the dream.”

4 A strologii i-au răspuns împăratului în limba aramaică, astfel: – Să trăieşti veşnic, împărate! Spune-le slujitorilor tăi visul, iar noi îţi vom da interpretarea!

Then the Chaldeans spoke to the king in Aramaic: “ O king, live forever! Tell the dream to your servants, and we will declare the interpretation.”

5 Î mpăratul le-a zis astrologilor: – Iată hotărârea fermă pe care am luat-o: dacă nu-mi veţi face cunoscut visul şi interpretarea lui, veţi fi făcuţi bucăţi, iar casele voastre vor fi prefăcute în mormane de gunoi.

The king replied to the Chaldeans, “ The command from me is firm: if you do not make known to me the dream and its interpretation, you will be torn limb from limb and your houses will be made a rubbish heap.

6 D acă însă îmi veţi spune visul şi interpretarea lui, veţi primi din partea mea daruri, răsplătiri şi mari onoruri. Aşadar, spuneţi-mi visul şi interpretarea lui!

But if you declare the dream and its interpretation, you will receive from me gifts and a reward and great honor; therefore declare to me the dream and its interpretation.”

7 E i au răspuns a doua oară: – Să spună împăratul slujitorilor săi visul şi noi îi vom desluşi interpretarea.

They answered a second time and said, “Let the king tell the dream to his servants, and we will declare the interpretation.”

8 A tunci împăratul le-a zis: – Acum ştiu cu adevărat că vreţi să câştigaţi timp, pentru că vedeţi hotărârea fermă pe care am luat-o.

The king replied, “I know for certain that you are bargaining for time, inasmuch as you have seen that the command from me is firm,

9 D acă nu-mi veţi face cunoscut visul, nu rămâne decât un singur verdict pentru voi! Văd că v-aţi înţeles să-mi ziceţi minciuni şi lucruri false, sperând că situaţia se va schimba. Aşadar, spuneţi-mi visul ca să ştiu astfel că sunteţi în stare să-mi daţi şi interpretarea lui!

that if you do not make the dream known to me, there is only one decree for you. For you have agreed together to speak lying and corrupt words before me until the situation is changed; therefore tell me the dream, that I may know that you can declare to me its interpretation.”

10 A strologii i-au răspuns împăratului astfel: – Nu există nici un om pe pământ care să poată spune ceea ce doreşte împăratul. De aceea nici un împărat, oricât de mare şi de autoritar ar fi fost el, nu a cerut aşa ceva vreunui magician, vreunui descântător sau vreunui astrolog.

The Chaldeans answered the king and said, “There is not a man on earth who could declare the matter for the king, inasmuch as no great king or ruler has ever asked anything like this of any magician, conjurer or Chaldean.

11 L ucrul pe care-l cere împăratul este prea greu şi nimeni nu i-l poate face cunoscut împăratului, în afară de zei, a căror locuinţă nu este printre muritori!

Moreover, the thing which the king demands is difficult, and there is no one else who could declare it to the king except gods, whose dwelling place is not with mortal flesh.”

12 C ând a auzit aceasta, împăratul s-a mâniat şi, înfuriindu-se foarte tare, a poruncit să fie omorâţi toţi înţelepţii Babilonului.

Because of this the king became indignant and very furious and gave orders to destroy all the wise men of Babylon.

13 D ecretul ieşise, înţelepţii erau pe cale de a fi omorâţi, iar gărzile îi căutau şi pe Daniel şi pe prietenii lui ca să-i omoare.

So the decree went forth that the wise men should be slain; and they looked for Daniel and his friends to kill them.

14 A tunci Daniel, cu prudenţă şi discreţie, s-a apropiat de Ariok, căpetenia gărzilor împăratului, care ieşise să-i omoare pe înţelepţii Babilonului.

Then Daniel replied with discretion and discernment to Arioch, the captain of the king’s bodyguard, who had gone forth to slay the wise men of Babylon;

15 E l l­a întrebat pe Ariok, comandantul împăratului: „De ce este atât de aspru decretul dat de împărat?“ Ariok i-a spus lui Daniel cum stau lucrurile.

he said to Arioch, the king’s commander, “For what reason is the decree from the king so urgent?” Then Arioch informed Daniel about the matter.

16 D aniel s-a dus la împărat şi l-a rugat să-i dea timp, pentru a-i putea spune interpretarea visului.

So Daniel went in and requested of the king that he would give him time, in order that he might declare the interpretation to the king.

17 A poi Daniel s-a dus acasă pentru a-i înştiinţa pe prietenii săi, Hanania, Mişael şi Azaria, cu privire la lucrul acesta

Then Daniel went to his house and informed his friends, Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah, about the matter,

18 ş i pentru a cere îndurare din partea Dumnezeului cerurilor cu privire la acest mister, astfel încât Daniel şi prietenii lui, împreună cu restul înţelepţilor Babilonului, să nu piară.

so that they might request compassion from the God of heaven concerning this mystery, so that Daniel and his friends would not be destroyed with the rest of the wise men of Babylon. The Secret Is Revealed to Daniel

19 N oaptea, misterul i-a fost descoperit lui Daniel într-o viziune. Atunci Daniel L-a binecuvântat pe Dumnezeul cerurilor.

Then the mystery was revealed to Daniel in a night vision. Then Daniel blessed the God of heaven;

20 D aniel a zis: „Binecuvântat să fie Numele lui Dumnezeu din veşnicie în veşnicie, căci a Lui este înţelepciunea şi puterea.

Daniel said, “Let the name of God be blessed forever and ever, For wisdom and power belong to Him.

21 E l schimbă vremurile şi împrejurările, El răstoarnă şi ridică împăraţi, El dă înţelepciune înţelepţilor şi cunoştinţă – celor pricepuţi.

“It is He who changes the times and the epochs; He removes kings and establishes kings; He gives wisdom to wise men And knowledge to men of understanding.

22 E l descoperă lucrurile adânci şi ascunse; El ştie ce se află în întuneric şi cu El locuieşte lumina.

“It is He who reveals the profound and hidden things; He knows what is in the darkness, And the light dwells with Him.

23 Ţ ie, Dumnezeul părinţilor mei, Îţi aduc mulţumire şi laudă, căci mi-ai dat înţelepciune şi putere şi mi-ai făcut cunoscut lucrul pe care noi Ţi l-am cerut, descoperindu-ne ceea ce împăratul ne cere!“ Interpretarea visului împăratului

“To You, O God of my fathers, I give thanks and praise, For You have given me wisdom and power; Even now You have made known to me what we requested of You, For You have made known to us the king’s matter.”

24 D upă aceste lucruri, Daniel s-a dus la Ariok, cel numit de împărat să-i omoare pe înţelepţii Babilonului; s-a dus la el şi i-a zis astfel: „Nu-i omorî pe înţelepţii Babilonului! Du-mă înaintea împăratului şi-i voi spune interpretarea!“

Therefore, Daniel went in to Arioch, whom the king had appointed to destroy the wise men of Babylon; he went and spoke to him as follows: “ Do not destroy the wise men of Babylon! Take me into the king’s presence, and I will declare the interpretation to the king.”

25 A riok s-a grăbit să-l aducă pe Daniel înaintea împăratului şi i-a vorbit astfel: – Am găsit un om printre exilaţii din Iuda care poate face cunoscută împăratului interpretarea!

Then Arioch hurriedly brought Daniel into the king’s presence and spoke to him as follows: “I have found a man among the exiles from Judah who can make the interpretation known to the king!”

26 Î mpăratul i-a zis lui Daniel, numit şi Beltşaţar: – Poţi tu să-mi faci cunoscut ce am văzut în vis şi să-mi dai şi interpretarea lui?

The king said to Daniel, whose name was Belteshazzar, “Are you able to make known to me the dream which I have seen and its interpretation?”

27 D aniel a răspuns împăratului: – Ceea ce împăratul cere este un mister pe care nici un înţelept, nici un descântător, nici un magician şi nici un ghicitor nu-l poate dezvălui împăratului.

Daniel answered before the king and said, “As for the mystery about which the king has inquired, neither wise men, conjurers, magicians nor diviners are able to declare it to the king.

28 D ar este un Dumnezeu în ceruri Care dezvăluie misterele şi El i-a făcut cunoscut împăratului Nebucadneţar ce se va întâmpla în zilele de pe urmă. Iată visul şi viziunile pe care le-ai avut în mintea ta în timp ce erai în patul tău.

However, there is a God in heaven who reveals mysteries, and He has made known to King Nebuchadnezzar what will take place in the latter days. This was your dream and the visions in your mind while on your bed.

29 Ţ ie, împărate, pe când erai în patul tău, ţi-au venit gânduri cu privire la ce se va întâmpla în viitor şi Cel Ce descoperă misterele ţi-a făcut cunoscut ce va fi.

As for you, O king, while on your bed your thoughts turned to what would take place in the future; and He who reveals mysteries has made known to you what will take place.

30 C ât despre mine, misterul acesta mi-a fost descoperit, nu pentru că aş avea mai multă înţelepciune decât toţi cei vii, ci pentru ca împăratului să i se dezvăluie interpretarea visului şi să înţeleagă gândurile inimii sale.

But as for me, this mystery has not been revealed to me for any wisdom residing in me more than in any other living man, but for the purpose of making the interpretation known to the king, and that you may understand the thoughts of your mind. The King’s Dream

31 T u, împărate, te uitai şi iată că ai văzut o statuie mare. Statuia aceasta era foarte mare şi de o strălucire nemaipomenită. Stătea în picioare înaintea ta şi înfăţişarea ei era înspăimântătoare.

“You, O king, were looking and behold, there was a single great statue; that statue, which was large and of extraordinary splendor, was standing in front of you, and its appearance was awesome.

32 C apul acestei statui era din aur curat, pieptul şi braţele îi erau din argint, iar pântecele şi coapsele îi erau din bronz.

The head of that statue was made of fine gold, its breast and its arms of silver, its belly and its thighs of bronze,

33 G ambele ei erau din fier, iar picioarele – o parte din fier, o parte din lut.

its legs of iron, its feet partly of iron and partly of clay.

34 Î n timp ce te uitai, a fost desprinsă o piatră, fără ajutorul vreunei mâini, care a lovit statuia peste picioarele ei de fier şi de lut şi le-a sfărâmat.

You continued looking until a stone was cut out without hands, and it struck the statue on its feet of iron and clay and crushed them.

35 A tunci fierul, lutul, bronzul, argintul şi aurul au fost sfărâmate împreună şi au ajuns precum pleava din arie vara, la vânturat. Le-a luat vântul şi nici o urmă nu s-a mai găsit din ele. Dar piatra care a lovit statuia s-a făcut un munte mare, care a umplut tot pământul.

Then the iron, the clay, the bronze, the silver and the gold were crushed all at the same time and became like chaff from the summer threshing floors; and the wind carried them away so that not a trace of them was found. But the stone that struck the statue became a great mountain and filled the whole earth. The Interpretation—Babylon the First Kingdom

36 A cesta este visul; acum voi spune şi interpretarea lui înaintea împăratului.

“This was the dream; now we will tell its interpretation before the king.

37 T u, împărate, eşti împăratul împăraţilor, căci Dumnezeul cerurilor ţi-a dat o împărăţie, putere, tărie şi glorie.

You, O king, are the king of kings, to whom the God of heaven has given the kingdom, the power, the strength and the glory;

38 E l ţi-a dat în mâini pe oameni, oriunde locuiesc ei, ţi-a dat fiarele câmpului şi păsările cerului şi te-a făcut stăpân peste toate. Tu eşti deci capul de aur!

and wherever the sons of men dwell, or the beasts of the field, or the birds of the sky, He has given them into your hand and has caused you to rule over them all. You are the head of gold. Medo-Persia and Greece

39 D upă tine se va ridica pe pământ o împărăţie mai neînsemnată decât a ta şi apoi o a treia împărăţie, a bronzului, care va avea stăpânire peste tot pământul.

After you there will arise another kingdom inferior to you, then another third kingdom of bronze, which will rule over all the earth. Rome

40 V a fi şi o a patra împărăţie, tare ca fierul (fierul sfărâmă şi spulberă totul). Şi, după cum fierul sfărâmă şi spulberă totul, tot astfel şi această împărăţie le va sfărâma şi le va zdrobi pe celelalte.

Then there will be a fourth kingdom as strong as iron; inasmuch as iron crushes and shatters all things, so, like iron that breaks in pieces, it will crush and break all these in pieces.

41 D e asemenea, aşa cum ai văzut că picioarele şi degetele erau o parte din lut de olar şi o altă parte din fier, tot aşa va fi împărţită şi împărăţia. Va rămâne însă în ea ceva din tăria fierului, întocmai cum ai văzut fierul amestecat cu lutul.

In that you saw the feet and toes, partly of potter’s clay and partly of iron, it will be a divided kingdom; but it will have in it the toughness of iron, inasmuch as you saw the iron mixed with common clay.

42 Ş i aşa cum degetele picioarelor erau o parte din fier şi o altă parte din lut, tot aşa şi împărăţia aceasta va fi în parte tare şi în parte fragilă.

As the toes of the feet were partly of iron and partly of pottery, so some of the kingdom will be strong and part of it will be brittle.

43 D upă cum ai văzut fierul amestecat cu lutul, tot aşa şi ei îşi vor amesteca neamul cu ceilalţi oameni, însă nu vor rămâne uniţi, aşa cum nici fierul nu se poate uni cu lutul.

And in that you saw the iron mixed with common clay, they will combine with one another in the seed of men; but they will not adhere to one another, even as iron does not combine with pottery. The Divine Kingdom

44 Î n zilele acestor împăraţi însă, Dumnezeul cerurilor va ridica o împărăţie veşnică, care nu va fi distrusă niciodată şi care nu va fi lăsată în mâinile altui popor. Ea va sfărâma şi va pune capăt tuturor celorlalte împărăţii, însă ea va dăinui veşnic.

In the days of those kings the God of heaven will set up a kingdom which will never be destroyed, and that kingdom will not be left for another people; it will crush and put an end to all these kingdoms, but it will itself endure forever.

45 A ceasta înseamnă piatra care ai văzut că a fost desprinsă din munte fără ajutorul vreunei mâini şi care a sfărâmat fierul, bronzul, lutul, argintul şi aurul. Dumnezeul cel Mare a făcut deci cunoscut împăratului ce va fi în viitor. Visul este adevărat, iar interpretarea lui este vrednică de încredere.

Inasmuch as you saw that a stone was cut out of the mountain without hands and that it crushed the iron, the bronze, the clay, the silver and the gold, the great God has made known to the king what will take place in the future; so the dream is true and its interpretation is trustworthy.” Daniel Promoted

46 A tunci împăratul Nebucadneţar a căzut cu faţa la pământ şi i-a adus omagii lui Daniel. El a poruncit să i se ofere un dar de mâncare şi miresme.

Then King Nebuchadnezzar fell on his face and did homage to Daniel, and gave orders to present to him an offering and fragrant incense.

47 Î mpăratul i-a zis lui Daniel: – Cu adevărat Dumnezeul vostru este Dumnezeul dumnezeilor, Stăpânul împăraţilor şi Cel Ce descoperă misterele, căci ai putut să descoperi misterul acesta!

The king answered Daniel and said, “Surely your God is a God of gods and a Lord of kings and a revealer of mysteries, since you have been able to reveal this mystery.”

48 A poi împăratul l-a înălţat pe Daniel, i-a dat daruri multe şi bogate, l-a pus conducător peste toată provincia Babilonului şi l-a făcut înalt demnitar, dându-i autoritate peste toţi înţelepţii Babilonului.

Then the king promoted Daniel and gave him many great gifts, and he made him ruler over the whole province of Babylon and chief prefect over all the wise men of Babylon.

49 D aniel l-a rugat pe împărat să-i numească pe Şadrak, pe Meşak şi pe Abed-Nego în slujba de administratori ai provinciei Babilonului. Daniel însă a rămas la curtea împăratului.

And Daniel made request of the king, and he appointed Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-nego over the administration of the province of Babylon, while Daniel was at the king’s court.
