1 B ut I determined this for myself, that I would not come again to you with sorrow.

Итак я рассудил сам в себе не приходить к вам опять с огорчением.

2 F or if I make you sorry, who then is he that maketh me glad but he that is made sorry by me?

Ибо если я огорчаю вас, то кто обрадует меня, как не тот, кто огорчен мною?

3 A nd I wrote this very thing, lest, when I came, I should have sorrow from them of whom I ought to rejoice; having confidence in you all, that my joy is the joy of you all.

Это самое и писал я вам, дабы, придя, не иметь огорчения от тех, о которых мне надлежало радоваться: ибо я во всех вас уверен, что моя радость есть и для всех вас.

4 F or out of much affliction and anguish of heart I wrote unto you with many tears; not that ye should be made sorry, but that ye might know the love that I have more abundantly unto you.

От великой скорби и стесненного сердца я писал вам со многими слезами, не для того, чтобы огорчить вас, но чтобы вы познали любовь, какую я в избытке имею к вам.

5 B ut if any hath caused sorrow, he hath caused sorrow, not to me, but in part (that I press not too heavily) to you all.

Если же кто огорчил, то не меня огорчил, но частью, --чтобы не сказать много, --и всех вас.

6 S ufficient to such a one is this punishment which was inflicted by the many;

Для такого довольно сего наказания от многих,

7 s o that contrariwise ye should rather forgive him and comfort him, lest by any means such a one should be swallowed up with his overmuch sorrow.

так что вам лучше уже простить его и утешить, дабы он не был поглощен чрезмерною печалью.

8 W herefore I beseech you to confirm your love toward him.

И потому прошу вас оказать ему любовь.

9 F or to this end also did I write, that I might know the proof of you, whether ye are obedient in all things.

Ибо я для того и писал, чтобы узнать на опыте, во всем ли вы послушны.

10 B ut to whom ye forgive anything, I forgive also: for what I also have forgiven, if I have forgiven anything, for your sakes have I forgiven it in the presence of Christ;

А кого вы в чем прощаете, того и я; ибо и я, если в чем простил кого, простил для вас от лица Христова,

11 t hat no advantage may be gained over us by Satan: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

чтобы не сделал нам ущерба сатана, ибо нам не безызвестны его умыслы.

12 N ow when I came to Troas for the gospel of Christ, and when a door was opened unto me in the Lord,

Придя в Троаду для благовествования о Христе, хотя мне и отверста была дверь Господом,

13 I had no relief for my spirit, because I found not Titus my brother: but taking my leave of them, I went forth into Macedonia.

я не имел покоя духу моему, потому что не нашел брата моего Тита; но, простившись с ними, я пошел в Македонию.

14 B ut thanks be unto God, who always leadeth us in triumph in Christ, and maketh manifest through us the savor of his knowledge in every place.

Но благодарение Богу, Который всегда дает нам торжествовать во Христе и благоухание познания о Себе распространяет нами во всяком месте.

15 F or we are a sweet savor of Christ unto God, in them that are saved, and in them that perish;

Ибо мы Христово благоухание Богу в спасаемых и в погибающих:

16 t o the one a savor from death unto death; to the other a savor from life unto life. And who is sufficient for these things?

для одних запах смертоносный на смерть, а для других запах живительный на жизнь. И кто способен к сему?

17 F or we are not as the many, corrupting the word of God: but as of sincerity, but as of God, in the sight of God, speak we in Christ.

Ибо мы не повреждаем слова Божия, как многие, но проповедуем искренно, как от Бога, пред Богом, во Христе.
