1 F or I would not, brethren, have you ignorant, that our fathers were all under the cloud, and all passed through the sea;

Не хочу оставить вас, братия, в неведении, что отцы наши все были под облаком, и все прошли сквозь море;

2 a nd were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea;

и все крестились в Моисея в облаке и в море;

3 a nd did all eat the same spiritual food;

и все ели одну и ту же духовную пищу;

4 a nd did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of a spiritual rock that followed them: and the rock was Christ.

и все пили одно и то же духовное питие: ибо пили из духовного последующего камня; камень же был Христос.

5 H owbeit with most of them God was not well pleased: for they were overthrown in the wilderness.

Но не о многих из них благоволил Бог, ибо они поражены были в пустыне.

6 N ow these things were our examples, to the intent we should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted.

А это были образы для нас, чтобы мы не были похотливы на злое, как они были похотливы.

7 N either be ye idolaters, as were some of them; as it is written, The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play.

Не будьте также идолопоклонниками, как некоторые из них, о которых написано: народ сел есть и пить, и встал играть.

8 N either let us commit fornication, as some of them committed, and fell in one day three and twenty thousand.

Не станем блудодействовать, как некоторые из них блудодействовали, и в один день погибло их двадцать три тысячи.

9 N either let us make trial of the Lord, as some of them made trial, and perished by the serpents.

Не станем искушать Христа, как некоторые из них искушали и погибли от змей.

10 N either murmur ye, as some of them murmured, and perished by the destroyer.

Не ропщите, как некоторые из них роптали и погибли от истребителя.

11 N ow these things happened unto them by way of example; and they were written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the ages are come.

Все это происходило с ними, образы; а описано в наставление нам, достигшим последних веков.

12 W herefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.

Посему, кто думает, что он стоит, берегись, чтобы не упасть.

13 T here hath no temptation taken you but such as man can bear: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation make also the way of escape, that ye may be able to endure it.

Вас постигло искушение не иное, как человеческое; и верен Бог, Который не попустит вам быть искушаемыми сверх сил, но при искушении даст и облегчение, так чтобы вы могли перенести.

14 W herefore, my beloved, flee from idolatry.

Итак, возлюбленные мои, убегайте идолослужения.

15 I speak as to wise men; judge ye what I say.

Я говорю как рассудительным; сами рассудите о том, что говорю.

16 T he cup of blessing which we bless, is it not a communion of the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, is it not a communion of the body of Christ?

Чаша благословения, которую благословляем, не есть ли приобщение Крови Христовой? Хлеб, который преломляем, не есть ли приобщение Тела Христова?

17 s eeing that we, who are many, are one bread, one body: for we are all partake of the one bread.

Один хлеб, и мы многие одно тело; ибо все причащаемся от одного хлеба.

18 B ehold Israel after the flesh: have not they that eat the sacrifices communion with the altar?

Посмотрите на Израиля по плоти: те, которые едят жертвы, не участники ли жертвенника?

19 W hat say I then? that a thing sacrificed to idols is anything, or that an idol is anything?

Что же я говорю? То ли, что идол есть что-нибудь, или идоложертвенное значит что-нибудь?

20 B ut I say, that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to demons, and not to God: and I would not that ye should have communion with demons.

но что язычники, принося жертвы, приносят бесам, а не Богу. Но я не хочу, чтобы вы были в общении с бесами.

21 Y e cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of demons: ye cannot partake of the table of the Lord, and of the table of demons.

Не можете пить чашу Господню и чашу бесовскую; не можете быть участниками в трапезе Господней и в трапезе бесовской.

22 O r do we provoke the Lord to jealousy? are we stronger than he?

Неужели мы раздражать Господа? Разве мы сильнее Его?

23 A ll things are lawful; but not all things are expedient. All things are lawful; but not all things edify.

Все мне позволительно, но не все полезно; все мне позволительно, но не все назидает.

24 L et no man seek his own, but each his neighbor's good.

Никто не ищи своего, но каждый другого.

25 W hatsoever is sold in the shambles, eat, asking no question for conscience' sake,

Все, что продается на торгу, ешьте без всякого исследования, для совести;

26 f or the earth is the Lord's, and the fulness thereof.

ибо Господня земля, и что наполняет ее.

27 I f one of them that believe not biddeth you to a feast, and ye are disposed to go; whatsoever is set before you, eat, asking no question for conscience' sake.

Если кто из неверных позовет вас, и вы захотите пойти, то все, предлагаемое вам, ешьте без всякого исследования, для совести.

28 B ut if any man say unto you, This hath been offered in sacrifice, eat not, for his sake that showed it, and for conscience sake:

Но если кто скажет вам: это идоложертвенное, --то не ешьте ради того, кто объявил вам, и ради совести. Ибо Господня земля, и что наполняет ее.

29 c onscience, I say, not thine own, but the other's; for why is my liberty judged by another conscience?

Совесть же разумею не свою, а другого: ибо для чего моей свободе быть судимой чужою совестью?

30 I f I partake with thankfulness, why am I evil spoken of for that for which I give thanks?

Если я с благодарением принимаю, то для чего порицать меня за то, за что я благодарю?

31 W hether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.

Итак, едите ли, пьете ли, или иное что делаете, все делайте в славу Божию.

32 G ive no occasions of stumbling, either to Jews, or to Greeks, or to the church of God:

Не подавайте соблазна ни Иудеям, ни Еллинам, ни церкви Божией,

33 e ven as I also please all men in all things, not seeking mine own profit, but the profit of the many, that they may be saved.

так, как и я угождаю всем во всем, ища не своей пользы, но многих, чтобы они спаслись.
