1 I n like manner, ye wives, be in subjection to your won husbands; that, even if any obey not the word, they may without the word be gained by the behavior of their wives;

Также и вы, жены, повинуйтесь своим мужьям, чтобы те из них, которые не покоряются слову, житием жен своих без слова приобретаемы были,

2 b eholding your chaste behavior coupled with fear.

когда увидят ваше чистое, богобоязненное житие.

3 W hose adorning let it not be the outward adorning of braiding the hair, and of wearing jewels of gold, or of putting on apparel;

Да будет украшением вашим не внешнее плетение волос, не золотые уборы или нарядность в одежде,

4 b ut let it be the hidden man of the heart, in the incorruptible apparel of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price.

но сокровенный сердца человек в нетленной кроткого и молчаливого духа, что драгоценно пред Богом.

5 F or after this manner aforetime the holy women also, who hoped in God, adorned themselves, being in subjection to their own husbands:

Так некогда и святые жены, уповавшие на Бога, украшали себя, повинуясь своим мужьям.

6 a s Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him lord: whose children ye now are, if ye do well, and are not put in fear by any terror.

Так Сарра повиновалась Аврааму, называя его господином. Вы--дети ее, если делаете добро и не смущаетесь ни от какого страха.

7 Y e husbands, in like manner, dwell with your wives according to knowledge, giving honor unto the woman, as unto the weaker vessel, as being also joint-heirs of the grace of life; to the end that your prayers be not hindered.

Также и вы, мужья, обращайтесь благоразумно с женами, как с немощнейшим сосудом, оказывая им честь, как сонаследницам благодатной жизни, дабы не было вам препятствия в молитвах.

8 F inally, be ye all likeminded, compassionate, loving as brethren, tenderhearted, humbleminded:

Наконец будьте все единомысленны, сострадательны, братолюбивы, милосерды, дружелюбны, смиренномудры;

9 n ot rendering evil for evil, or reviling for reviling; but contrariwise blessing; for hereunto were ye called, that ye should inherit a blessing.

не воздавайте злом за зло или ругательством за ругательство; напротив, благословляйте, зная, что вы к тому призваны, чтобы наследовать благословение.

10 F or, He that would love life, And see good days, Let him refrain his tongue from evil, And his lips that they speak no guile:

Ибо, кто любит жизнь и хочет видеть добрые дни, тот удерживай язык свой от зла и уста свои от лукавых речей;

11 A nd let him turn away from evil, and do good; Let him seek peace, and pursue it.

уклоняйся от зла и делай добро; ищи мира и стремись к нему,

12 F or the eyes of the Lord are upon the righteous, And his ears unto their supplication: But the face of the Lord is upon them that do evil.

потому что очи Господа к праведным и уши Его к молитве их, но лице Господне против делающих зло, (чтобы истребить их с земли).

13 A nd who is he that will harm you, if ye be zealous of that which is good?

И кто сделает вам зло, если вы будете ревнителями доброго?

14 B ut even if ye should suffer for righteousness' sake, blessed are ye: and fear not their fear, neither be troubled;

Но если и страдаете за правду, то вы блаженны; а страха их не бойтесь и не смущайтесь.

15 b ut sanctify in your hearts Christ as Lord: being ready always to give answer to every man that asketh you a reason concerning the hope that is in you, yet with meekness and fear:

Господа Бога святите в сердцах ваших; всегда готовы всякому, требующему у вас отчета в вашем уповании, дать ответ с кротостью и благоговением.

16 h aving a good conscience; that, wherein ye are spoken against, they may be put to shame who revile your good manner of life in Christ.

Имейте добрую совесть, дабы тем, за что злословят вас, как злодеев, были постыжены порицающие ваше доброе житие во Христе.

17 F or it is better, if the will of God should so will, that ye suffer for well-doing than for evil-doing.

Ибо, если угодно воле Божией, лучше пострадать за добрые дела, нежели за злые;

18 B ecause Christ also suffered for sins once, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God; being put to death in the flesh, but made alive in the spirit;

потому что и Христос, чтобы привести нас к Богу, однажды пострадал за грехи наши, праведник за неправедных, быв умерщвлен по плоти, но ожив духом,

19 i n which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison,

которым Он и находящимся в темнице духам, сойдя, проповедал,

20 t hat aforetime were disobedient, when the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls, were saved through water:

некогда непокорным ожидавшему их Божию долготерпению, во дни Ноя, во время строения ковчега, в котором немногие, то есть восемь душ, спаслись от воды.

21 w hich also after a true likeness doth now save you, even baptism, not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the interrogation of a good conscience toward God, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ;

Так и нас ныне подобное сему образу крещение, не плотской нечистоты омытие, но обещание Богу доброй совести, спасает воскресением Иисуса Христа,

22 w ho is one the right hand of God, having gone into heaven; angels and authorities and powers being made subject unto him.

Который, восшед на небо, пребывает одесную Бога и Которому покорились Ангелы и Власти и Силы.
