1 J osiah was eight years old when he became king. He ruled for thirty-one years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Jedidah the daughter of Adaiah of Bozkath.

Иосия бе осем години на възраст когато се възцари, и царува в Ерусалим тридесет и една година; а името на майка му бе Иедида, дъщеря на Адаия от Васкат.

2 J osiah did what is right in the eyes of the Lord. He walked in all the way of his father David. He did not turn aside to the right or to the left. Hilkiah Finds the Book of the Law

Той върши това, което бе право пред Господа, като ходи напълно в пътя на баща си Давида, без да се отклони на дясно или на ляво.

3 I n the eighteenth year of King Josiah, the king sent Shaphan the writer, the son of Azaliah, son of Meshullam, to the house of the Lord. He said,

И в осемнадесетата година на цар Иосия, царят прати в Господния дом секретаря Сафан, син на Азалия, Месуламовия син, и му каза:

4 “ Go up to Hilkiah the head religious leader, that he may add up the money brought into the Lord’s house which the door-keepers have gathered from the people.

Иди при първосвещеника Хелкия та <му речи> да изброи внесените в Господния дом пари, които вратарите са събрали от людете,

5 L et the money be given to the workmen who are watching over the work on the Lord’s house. And let them give it to the workmen who are doing the work on the Lord’s house.

и нека ги предадат в ръката на работниците, които надзирават Господния дом; а те нека ги дадат на работниците, които са в Господния дом, за да поправят разваленото на дома, -

6 H ave them pay the builders and the men who work with wood and with stone. Have them use it for buying wood and cut stone needed to work on the house.

на дърводелците, на строителите и на зидарите, - и за да купят дървета и дялани камъни за да поправят дома.

7 B ut do not make them tell you how the money was spent that was given to them. For they are honest men.”

Обаче, не държаха с тях никаква сметка за предаваните в ръцете им пари, защото постъпваха честно.

8 T hen Hilkiah the head religious leader said to Shaphan the writer, “I have found the Book of the Law in the house of the Lord.” And Hilkiah gave the book to Shaphan, and he read it.

Тогава първосвещеникът Хелкия каза на секретаря Сафан: Намерих книгата на закона в Господния дом. И Хелкия даде книгата на Сафана, който я прочете.

9 T hen Shaphan the writer came to the king and told him, “Your servants have taken all the money found in the house. And they have given it to the workmen who are watching over the work on the Lord’s house.”

И секретарят Сафан отиде при царя и доложи на царя, казвайки: Слугите ти иждивиха парите, които намериха в дома, като ги предадоха в ръката на работниците, които надзирават Господния дом.

10 T hen Shaphan the writer told the king, “Hilkiah the religious leader has given me a book.” And Shaphan read it in front of the king.

Тоже секретарят Сафан извести на царя, казвайки: Свещеник Хелкия ми даде една книга. И Сафан я прочете пред царя.

11 W hen the king heard the words of the Book of the Law, he tore his clothes.

А царят, като чу думите на книгата на закона, раздра дрехите си.

12 T hen he told Hilkiah the religious leader, Ahikam the son of Shaphan, Achbor the son of Micaiah, Shaphan the writer, and Asaiah the king’s servant,

Тогава царят заповяда на свещеника Хелкия, на Ахикама Сафановия син, на Аховора Михеевия син, на секретаря Сафан, и на царския слуга Асаия, казвайки:

13 “ Go, ask the Lord for me and all Judah about the words of this book that has been found. For the Lord is very angry with us, because our fathers have not listened to the words of this book. They have not done all that is written for us to do.”

Идете, допитайте се до Господа за мене, за людете и за целия Юда, относно думите на тая книга, която се намери; защото голям е Господният гняв, който е пламнал против нас, понеже бащите ни не послушаха думите на тая книга та да постъпват напълно според както е писано за нас.

14 S o Hilkiah the religious leader, Ahikam, Achbor, Shaphan and Asaiah went to Huldah the woman who spoke for God. She was the wife of Shallum the son of Tikvah, son of Harhas, and watched over the clothes of the house. (She lived in the Second Part of Jerusalem.) They spoke to her.

И така, свещеник Хелкия, Ахикам, Аховор, Сафан и Асаия отидоха при пророчицата Олда, жена на одеждопазителя Селум, син на Текуя, Арасовия син. А тя живееше в Ерусалим, във втория участък; и те говориха с нея.

15 S he said to them, “This is what the Lord God of Israel says. Tell the man who sent you to me

И тя им рече: Така казва Господ Израилевият Бог: Кажете на човека, който ви е пратил до Мене:

16 t hat the Lord says, ‘See, I will bring trouble upon this place and upon its people. All the words of the book which the king of Judah has read will come true

Така казва Господ: Ето, Аз ще докарам злото на това място и на жителите му, според всичко което е писано в книгата, която Юдовият цар е прочел.

17 b ecause they have turned away from Me and have burned special perfume to other gods. They have made Me angry with all the work of their hands. So My anger burns against this place, and it will not be stopped.’

Понеже Ме оставиха и кадяха на други богове, та Ме разгневиха с всичките дела на ръцете си, затова гневът Ми ще пламне против това място, и няма да угасне.

18 B ut tell the king of Judah who sent you to ask of the Lord, ‘This is what the Lord God of Israel says about the words you have heard.

Но на Юдовия цар, който ви прати да се допитате до Господа, така да му кажете: Така казва Господ Израилевият Бог: Относно думите, които ти си чул:

19 “ You heard how I spoke against this place and against its people. I said that they should be destroyed and laid waste. They should be hated and destroyed. But when you heard this, you were sorry in your heart. You put away your pride before the Lord. You have torn your clothes and cried before Me, and I have heard you,” says the Lord.

Понеже сърцето ти е омекнало, и ти си се смирил пред Господа, когато си чул това, което говорих против това място и против жителите му, че ще запустеят и ще станат <за> проклетия, и ти раздра дрехите си и плака пред Мене, затова и Аз те послушах, казва Господ.

20 “ So I will gather you to your fathers, and you will be gathered to your grave in peace. Your eyes will not see all the trouble which I will bring upon this place.”’” So they returned to the king and told him what was said.

Ето, прочее, Аз ще те прибера при бащите ти, и ще се прибереш в гроба си с мир; и твоите очи няма да видят нищо от всичкото зло, което ще докарам на това място. И те доложиха на царя.
