1 И отвечал Елифаз Феманитянин и сказал:

Then Eliphaz the Temanite responded,

2 р азве может человек доставлять пользу Богу? Разумный доставляет пользу себе самому.

“Can a vigorous man be of use to God, Or a wise man be useful to himself?

3 Ч то за удовольствие Вседержителю, что ты праведен? И будет ли Ему выгода от того, что ты содержишь пути твои в непорочности?

“Is there any pleasure to the Almighty if you are righteous, Or profit if you make your ways perfect?

4 Н еужели Он, боясь тебя, вступит с тобою в состязание, пойдет судиться с тобою?

“Is it because of your reverence that He reproves you, That He enters into judgment against you?

5 В ерно, злоба твоя велика, и беззакониям твоим нет конца.

“Is not your wickedness great, And your iniquities without end?

6 В ерно, ты брал залоги от братьев твоих ни за что и с полунагих снимал одежду.

“For you have taken pledges of your brothers without cause, And stripped men naked.

7 У томленному жаждою не подавал воды напиться и голодному отказывал в хлебе;

“To the weary you have given no water to drink, And from the hungry you have withheld bread.

8 а человеку сильному ты землю, и сановитый селился на ней.

“But the earth belongs to the mighty man, And the honorable man dwells in it.

9 В дов ты отсылал ни с чем и сирот оставлял с пустыми руками.

“You have sent widows away empty, And the strength of the orphans has been crushed.

10 З а то вокруг тебя петли, и возмутил тебя неожиданный ужас,

“Therefore snares surround you, And sudden dread terrifies you,

11 и ли тьма, в которой ты ничего не видишь, и множество вод покрыло тебя.

Or darkness, so that you cannot see, And an abundance of water covers you.

12 Н е превыше ли небес Бог? посмотри вверх на звезды, как они высоко!

“Is not God in the height of heaven? Look also at the distant stars, how high they are!

13 И ты говоришь: что знает Бог? может ли Он судить сквозь мрак?

“You say, ‘ What does God know? Can He judge through the thick darkness?

14 О блака--завеса Его, так что Он не видит, а ходит по небесному кругу.

‘ Clouds are a hiding place for Him, so that He cannot see; And He walks on the vault of heaven.’

15 Н еужели ты держишься пути древних, по которому шли люди беззаконные,

“Will you keep to the ancient path Which wicked men have trod,

16 к оторые преждевременно были истреблены, когда вода разлилась под основание их?

Who were snatched away before their time, Whose foundations were washed away by a river?

17 О ни говорили Богу: отойди от нас! и что сделает им Вседержитель?

“They said to God, ‘Depart from us!’ And ‘What can the Almighty do to them?’

18 А Он наполнял домы их добром. Но совет нечестивых будь далек от меня!

“Yet He filled their houses with good things; But the counsel of the wicked is far from me.

19 В идели праведники и радовались, и непорочный смеялся им:

“The righteous see and are glad, And the innocent mock them,

20 в раг наш истреблен, а оставшееся после них пожрал огонь.

Saying, ‘Truly our adversaries are cut off, And their abundance the fire has consumed.’

21 С близься же с Ним--и будешь спокоен; чрез это придет к тебе добро.

“ Yield now and be at peace with Him; Thereby good will come to you.

22 П рими из уст Его закон и положи слова Его в сердце твое.

“Please receive instruction from His mouth And establish His words in your heart.

23 Е сли ты обратишься к Вседержителю, то вновь устроишься, удалишь беззаконие от шатра твоего

“If you return to the Almighty, you will be restored; If you remove unrighteousness far from your tent,

24 и будешь вменять в прах блестящий металл, и в камни потоков-- Офирское.

And place your gold in the dust, And the gold of Ophir among the stones of the brooks,

25 И будет Вседержитель твоим золотом и блестящим серебром у тебя,

Then the Almighty will be your gold And choice silver to you.

26 и бо тогда будешь радоваться о Вседержителе и поднимешь к Богу лице твое.

“For then you will delight in the Almighty And lift up your face to God.

27 П омолишься Ему, и Он услышит тебя, и ты исполнишь обеты твои.

“You will pray to Him, and He will hear you; And you will pay your vows.

28 П оложишь намерение, и оно состоится у тебя, и над путями твоими будет сиять свет.

“You will also decree a thing, and it will be established for you; And light will shine on your ways.

29 К огда кто уничижен будет, ты скажешь: возвышение! и Он спасет поникшего лицем,

“When you are cast down, you will speak with confidence, And the humble person He will save.

30 и збавит и небезвинного, и он спасется чистотою рук твоих.

“He will deliver one who is not innocent, And he will be delivered through the cleanness of your hands.”
