1 N ë kohën kur qeverisnin gjyqtarët, vendin e pllakosi zia, dhe një njeri nga Betlemi i Judës shkoi të banojë në vendin e Moabit me gjithë gruan dhe dy bijtë e tij.

¶ Now it came to pass in the days when the judges governed that there was a famine in the land. And a certain man of Bethlehem of Judah went to sojourn in the fields of Moab, he, and his wife, and his two sons.

2 E mri i burrit ishte Elimelek, emri i gruas së tij Naomi dhe emri i dy bijve të tij Mahlon dhe Kilion, Efratej nga Betlemi i Judës. Ata shkuan në vendin e Moabit dhe u vendosën aty.

And the name of the man was Elimelech, and the name of his wife Naomi, and the name of his two sons Mahlon and Chilion, Ephrathites of Bethlehem of Judah. And they came into the fields of Moab and continued there.

3 P astaj Elimeku, burri i Naomit, vdiq dhe ajo mbeti me dy bijtë e saj.

And Elimelech, Naomi’s husband, died, and she was left with her two sons,

4 K ëta u martuan me gra moabite, nga të cilat njëra quhej Orpah dhe tjetra Ruth; dhe banuan aty rreth dhjetë vjet.

who took wives for themselves of the women of Moab; the name of the one was Orpah, and the name of the other Ruth; and they dwelt there about ten years.

5 P astaj edhe Mahloni dhe Kilioni vdiqën që të dy, dhe kështu ajo grua mbeti pa dy djemtë e saj dhe pa burrin.

And Mahlon and Chilion both died also; and the woman was left without her two sons and her husband.

6 A tëherë u ngrit me gjithë nuset e saj për t’u kthyer nga vendi Moabit, sepse kishte dëgjuar të thuhej që Zoti e kishte vizituar popullin e vet dhe i kishte dhënë bukë.

¶ Then she arose with her daughters-in-law, to return from the fields of Moab, for she had heard in the field of Moab how the LORD had visited his people to give them bread.

7 A jo u nis, pra, me të dy nuset e saj nga vendi në të cilin rrinte, dhe filloi të ecë për t’u kthyer në vendin e Judës.

Therefore she went forth out of the place where she had been and her two daughters-in-law with her; and they went on the way to return unto the land of Judah.

8 P or Naomi u tha dy nuseve të saj: "Shkoni, kthehuni çdo njëra në shtëpinë e nënes së saj; Zoti qoftë i mirë me ju, ashtu si ju keni qenë të mira me ata që kanë vdekur dhe me mua!

And Naomi said unto her two daughters-in-law, Go, return each of you to thy mother’s house; the LORD deal with you in mercy as ye have dealt with the dead and with me.

9 Z oti ju bëftë të gjeni qetësi çdo njëra në shtëpinë e burrit të sajë!". Pastaj ajo i puthi dhe ato filluan të qajnë me zë të lartë,

The LORD grant you that ye may find rest, each of you in the house of her husband. Then she kissed them, and they lifted up their voice and wept.

10 d he i thanë: "Jo, ne do të kthehemi me ty pranë popullit tënd".

And they said unto her, Surely we will return with thee unto thy people.

11 P or Naomi u përgjegj: "Kthehuni bijat e mija! Pse të vini me mua? Mos kam në barkun tim fëmijë që mund të bëhen bashkëshortët tuaj?

And Naomi replied, Go back, my daughters; why must ye go with me? Do I have more sons in my womb that they may be your husbands?

12 K thehuni mbrapa, bijat e mija, shkoni, sepse unë jam shumë e vjetër për t’u martuar prapë; edhe sikur të thoja: "Kam akoma shpresë"; edhe sikur të martohesha sonte dhe të lindja djem,

Turn, my daughters, and go back, for I am too old to have a husband. Even if I should say, I have hope, if I should have a husband tonight and should also bear sons,

13 a do të prisnit ju sa të rriteshin? A do të hiqnit dorë nga martesa për këtë shkak? Jo, bijat e mija, sepse kushtet në të cilat ndodhem janë më të hidhura nga tuajat, sepse dora e Zotit është shtrirë kundër meje".

should ye tarry for them until they are grown? Should ye stay without husbands because of them? No, my daughters, for I have greater bitterness than you because the hand of the LORD has come out against me.

14 A tëherë ato e ngritën zërin dhe qanë përsëri; pastaj Orpahu puthi vjehrrën, por Ruthi nuk i ndahej asaj.

And they lifted up their voice and wept again, and Orpah kissed her mother-in-law, but Ruth cleaved unto her.

15 A tëherë Naomi i tha Ruthit: "Ja, kunata jote u kthye te populli i vet dhe te perënditë e saj; ktheu mbrapa edhe ti, ashtu si kunata jote!".

And she said, Behold, thy sister-in-law has returned to her people and to her gods; return thou after thy sister-in-law.

16 P or Ruthi u përgjegj: "Mos ngul këmbë me mua që unë të të braktis dhe të mos të të ndjek më, sepse kudo që të shkosh ti do të shkoj edhe unë, dhe kudo që të rrish ti do të rri edhe unë; populli yt do të jetë populli im, Perëndia yt do të jetë edhe Perëndia im;

And Ruth said, Do not intreat me to leave thee or to return from following after thee, for wherever thou goest, I will go; and wherever thou shalt lodge, I will lodge; thy people shall be my people and thy God my God.

17 a ty ku të vdesësh ti do të vdes edhe unë, dhe atje do të më varrosin. Kështu të veprojë me mua Zoti, bile edhe më keq, në rast se veç vdekjes ndonjë gjë tjetër do të më ndajë prej teje!".

Where thou diest, I will die, and there will I be buried; let the LORD do so unto me and let him give unto me that only death shall part thee and me.

18 K ur Naomi e kuptoi që Ruthi ishte e vendosur ta ndiqte, nuk i foli më.

When she saw that she was courageous to go with her, then she left off speaking to her.

19 K ështu e bënë rrugën bashkë deri sa arritën në Betlem. Kur arritën në Betlem, tërë qyteti ziente për shkak të tyre. Gratë thonin: "Kjo është Naomi?".

¶ So the two walked until they came to Bethlehem. And it came to pass, entering into Bethlehem, that all the city was moved because of them, and they said, Is this Naomi?

20 A jo iu përgjegj atyre: "Mos më quani Naomi; thirrmëni Mara, sepse i Plotfuqishmi më ka mbushur me hidhërim.

And she said unto them, Call me not Naomi, call me Mara; for the Almighty has dealt very bitterly with me.

21 U në u nisa në bollëk dhe Zoti më ktheu në shtëpi të zhveshur nga çdo gjë. Pse të më quani Naomi, kur Zoti ka dëshmuar kundër meje dhe i Plotfuqishmi më ka bërë fatkeqe?".

I went out full, and the LORD has brought me home again empty. Why then call ye me Naomi, seeing the LORD has testified against me, and the Almighty has afflicted me?

22 K ështu Naomi u kthye bashkë me Ruthin, nusen e saj, që kishte ardhur nga vendi i Moabit. Ato arritën në Betlem kur kishte filluar korrja e elbit.

So Naomi returned, and Ruth the Moabitess, her daughter-in-law, with her, who returned out of the fields of Moab, and they came to Bethlehem in the beginning of barley harvest.
