1 M oisés cuidaba las ovejas de Jetro, su suegro, que era sacerdote de Madián, y un día llevó las ovejas a través del desierto y llegó hasta Horeb, el monte de Dios.

Now Moses was tending the flock of Jethro his father-in-law, the priest of Midian. And he led the flock to the back of the desert, and came to Horeb, the mountain of God.

2 A llí, el ángel del Señor se le apareció en medio de una zarza envuelta en fuego. Moisés miró, y vio que la zarza ardía en el fuego, pero no se consumía.

And the Angel of the Lord appeared to him in a flame of fire from the midst of a bush. So he looked, and behold, the bush was burning with fire, but the bush was not consumed.

3 E ntonces dijo: «Voy a ir y ver esta grande visión, por qué es que la zarza no se quema.»

Then Moses said, “I will now turn aside and see this great sight, why the bush does not burn.”

4 E l Señor vio que Moisés iba a ver la zarza, así que desde la zarza lo llamó y le dijo: «¡Moisés, Moisés!» Y él respondió: «Aquí estoy.»

So when the Lord saw that he turned aside to look, God called to him from the midst of the bush and said, “Moses, Moses!” And he said, “Here I am.”

5 E l Señor le dijo: «No te acerques. Quítate el calzado de tus pies, porque el lugar donde ahora estás es tierra santa.»

Then He said, “Do not draw near this place. Take your sandals off your feet, for the place where you stand is holy ground.”

6 Y también dijo: «Yo soy el Dios de tu padre. Soy el Dios de Abrahán, el Dios de Isaac y el Dios de Jacob.» Entonces Moisés cubrió su rostro, porque tuvo miedo de mirar a Dios.

Moreover He said, “I am the God of your father—the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.” And Moses hid his face, for he was afraid to look upon God.

7 L uego el Señor dijo: «He visto muy bien la aflicción de mi pueblo que está en Egipto. He oído su clamor por causa de sus explotadores. He sabido de sus angustias,

And the Lord said: “I have surely seen the oppression of My people who are in Egypt, and have heard their cry because of their taskmasters, for I know their sorrows.

8 y he descendido para librarlos de manos de los egipcios y sacarlos de esa tierra, hacia una tierra buena y amplia, una tierra que fluye leche y miel, donde habitan los cananeos, los hititas, los amorreos, los ferezeos, los jivitas y los jebuseos.

So I have come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians, and to bring them up from that land to a good and large land, to a land flowing with milk and honey, to the place of the Canaanites and the Hittites and the Amorites and the Perizzites and the Hivites and the Jebusites.

9 E l clamor de los hijos de Israel ha llegado a mi presencia, y he visto además la opresión con que los egipcios los oprimen.

Now therefore, behold, the cry of the children of Israel has come to Me, and I have also seen the oppression with which the Egyptians oppress them.

10 P or lo tanto, ven ahora, que voy a enviarte al faraón para que saques de Egipto a mi pueblo, a los hijos de Israel.»

Come now, therefore, and I will send you to Pharaoh that you may bring My people, the children of Israel, out of Egypt.”

11 P ero Moisés le respondió a Dios: «¿Y quién soy yo para ir ante el faraón y sacar de Egipto a los hijos de Israel?»

But Moses said to God, “Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh, and that I should bring the children of Israel out of Egypt?”

12 Y Dios le respondió: «Ve, pues yo estaré contigo. Y esto te servirá de señal, de que yo te he enviado: Cuando tú hayas sacado de Egipto al pueblo, ustedes servirán a Dios sobre este monte.»

So He said, “I will certainly be with you. And this shall be a sign to you that I have sent you: When you have brought the people out of Egypt, you shall serve God on this mountain.”

13 M oisés le dijo a Dios: «Pero resulta que, si yo voy y les digo a los hijos de Israel: “El Dios de sus padres me ha enviado a ustedes”, qué voy a responderles si me preguntan: “¿Y cuál es su nombre?”»

Then Moses said to God, “Indeed, when I come to the children of Israel and say to them, ‘The God of your fathers has sent me to you,’ and they say to me, ‘What is His name?’ what shall I say to them?”

14 D ios le respondió a Moisés: «YO SOY EL QUE SOY.» Y añadió: «A los hijos de Israel tú les dirás: “YO SOY me ha enviado a ustedes.”»

And God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM.” And He said, “Thus you shall say to the children of Israel, ‘I AM has sent me to you.’”

15 T ambién le dijo Dios a Moisés: «A los hijos de Israel les dirás: “El Señor me ha enviado a ustedes. Él es el Dios de sus padres, el Dios de Abrahán, el Dios de Isaac y el Dios de Jacob.” Éste es mi nombre eterno. Con este nombre se me recordará por todos los siglos.

Moreover God said to Moses, “Thus you shall say to the children of Israel: ‘The Lord God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you. This is My name forever, and this is My memorial to all generations.’

16 A sí que ve y reúne a los ancianos de Israel, y diles: “El Señor, el Dios de sus padres, el Dios de Abrahán, de Isaac y de Jacob, se me apareció y me dijo: ‘En verdad he venido a visitarlos. He visto cómo los tratan en Egipto,

Go and gather the elders of Israel together, and say to them, ‘The Lord God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, of Isaac, and of Jacob, appeared to me, saying, “I have surely visited you and seen what is done to you in Egypt;

17 y me he propuesto sacarlos de la aflicción de Egipto y llevarlos a la tierra de los cananeos, los hititas, los amorreos, los ferezeos, los jivitas y los jebuseos, que es una tierra que fluye leche y miel.’”

and I have said I will bring you up out of the affliction of Egypt to the land of the Canaanites and the Hittites and the Amorites and the Perizzites and the Hivites and the Jebusites, to a land flowing with milk and honey.”’

18 E llos oirán tu voz, y entonces tú y los ancianos de Israel irán a hablar con el rey de Egipto y le dirán: “El Señor, el Dios de los hebreos, nos ha encontrado. Por eso, ahora vamos a ir camino de tres días por el desierto, para ofrecer sacrificios al Señor nuestro Dios.”

Then they will heed your voice; and you shall come, you and the elders of Israel, to the king of Egypt; and you shall say to him, ‘The Lord God of the Hebrews has met with us; and now, please, let us go three days’ journey into the wilderness, that we may sacrifice to the Lord our God.’

19 Y o sé que el rey de Egipto no los dejará ir, sino a la fuerza.

But I am sure that the king of Egypt will not let you go, no, not even by a mighty hand.

20 P ero yo extenderé mi mano y heriré a Egipto con todas las maravillas que allí haré. Y entonces él los dejará ir.

So I will stretch out My hand and strike Egypt with all My wonders which I will do in its midst; and after that he will let you go.

21 Y yo haré que los egipcios vean a este pueblo con ojos bondadosos, para que cuando ustedes salgan no se vayan con las manos vacías.

And I will give this people favor in the sight of the Egyptians; and it shall be, when you go, that you shall not go empty-handed.

22 A l contrario, cada mujer le pedirá a su vecina y a quien viva con ella alhajas de plata y de oro, y vestidos, con los cuales vestirán ustedes a sus hijos y a sus hijas. Así despojarán a los egipcios.»

But every woman shall ask of her neighbor, namely, of her who dwells near her house, articles of silver, articles of gold, and clothing; and you shall put them on your sons and on your daughters. So you shall plunder the Egyptians.”
