1 A l principio del reinado en Judá de Joacín hijo de Josías, la palabra del Señor vino a mí, y me dijo así:

In the beginning of the reign of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, this word came to Jeremiah from the Lord, saying,

2 « Jeremías, hazte unas coyundas y unos yugos, y póntelos sobre el cuello.

“Thus says the Lord to me: ‘Make for yourselves bonds and yokes, and put them on your neck,

3 L uego, por medio de los mensajeros que vienen a Jerusalén para ver a Sedequías rey de Judá, se los enviarás a los reyes de Edom, Moab, Amón, Tiro y Sidón,

and send them to the king of Edom, the king of Moab, the king of the Ammonites, the king of Tyre, and the king of Sidon, by the hand of the messengers who come to Jerusalem to Zedekiah king of Judah.

4 j unto con el siguiente mensaje para sus respectivos señores: “Yo, el Señor de los ejércitos y Dios de Israel, les recuerdo esto:

And command them to say to their masters, “Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel—thus you shall say to your masters:

5 Y o, con gran despliegue de poder y con mi brazo extendido, hice la tierra y al hombre, y también a los animales que están sobre la tierra, y la tierra se la di a quien mejor me pareció.

‘I have made the earth, the man and the beast that are on the ground, by My great power and by My outstretched arm, and have given it to whom it seemed proper to Me.

6 A hora he puesto todos estos territorios en manos de mi siervo Nabucodonosor, rey de Babilonia, y hasta le he dado los animales salvajes, para que le sirvan.

And now I have given all these lands into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, My servant; and the beasts of the field I have also given him to serve him.

7 Y todas las naciones le servirán, a él, y a su hijo y a su nieto, hasta que llegue el momento de que su propio país sea reducido a servidumbre por muchas naciones y grandes reyes.

So all nations shall serve him and his son and his son’s son, until the time of his land comes; and then many nations and great kings shall make him serve them.

8 Y o castigaré a la nación y al reino que no sirva a Nabucodonosor rey de Babilonia, ni doblegue su cuello bajo su yugo; los castigaré con espada, y hambre y peste, hasta que a él mismo le permita destruirlos por completo. —Palabra del Señor.

And it shall be, that the nation and kingdom which will not serve Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, and which will not put its neck under the yoke of the king of Babylon, that nation I will punish,’ says the Lord, ‘with the sword, the famine, and the pestilence, until I have consumed them by his hand.

9 ” Así que ustedes no presten oído a sus profetas, adivinos, intérpretes de sueños, agoreros y encantadores, que les dicen que no se rindan ante el rey de Babilonia.

Therefore do not listen to your prophets, your diviners, your dreamers, your soothsayers, or your sorcerers, who speak to you, saying, “You shall not serve the king of Babylon.”

10 L o que ellos les dicen es mentira. Lo que buscan es que ustedes se alejen de su tierra, para que yo los expulse y ustedes mueran.

For they prophesy a lie to you, to remove you far from your land; and I will drive you out, and you will perish.

11 P ero a la nación que doblegue su cuello al yugo del rey de Babilonia y le sirva, yo la dejaré en su tierra, para que la cultive y la habite.”» —Palabra del Señor.

But the nations that bring their necks under the yoke of the king of Babylon and serve him, I will let them remain in their own land,’ says the Lord, ‘and they shall till it and dwell in it.’”’”

12 E stas mismas palabras se las comuniqué a Sedequías rey de Judá. Le dije: «Dobleguen su cuello al yugo del rey de Babilonia, y sírvanle a él y a su pueblo. Así seguirán con vida.

I also spoke to Zedekiah king of Judah according to all these words, saying, “Bring your necks under the yoke of the king of Babylon, and serve him and his people, and live!

13 ¿ Por qué han de morir tú y tu pueblo por la espada, o de hambre y de peste, como ha dicho el Señor que pasará con la nación que no sirva al rey de Babilonia?

Why will you die, you and your people, by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence, as the Lord has spoken against the nation that will not serve the king of Babylon?

14 N o hagan caso de las palabras de los profetas que les dicen que no sirvan al rey de Babilonia. Lo que ellos les profetizan es mentira.

Therefore do not listen to the words of the prophets who speak to you, saying, ‘You shall not serve the king of Babylon,’ for they prophesy a lie to you;

15 E l Señor no los ha enviado. Ellos profetizan falsamente en nombre del Señor, para que él los expulse de su tierra y ustedes mueran, junto con los profetas que les anuncian tales cosas.» —Palabra del Señor.

for I have not sent them,” says the Lord, “yet they prophesy a lie in My name, that I may drive you out, and that you may perish, you and the prophets who prophesy to you.”

16 T ambién hablé con los sacerdotes y con todo este pueblo. Les dije: «Así ha dicho el Señor: “No hagan caso de las palabras de esos profetas que les dicen que muy pronto los utensilios de la casa del Señor serán traídos de Babilonia. Eso que les profetizan es una mentira.”»

Also I spoke to the priests and to all this people, saying, “Thus says the Lord: ‘Do not listen to the words of your prophets who prophesy to you, saying, “Behold, the vessels of the Lord ’s house will now shortly be brought back from Babylon”; for they prophesy a lie to you.

17 N o les hagan caso. Sirvan al rey de Babilonia, y seguirán con vida. ¿Por qué tiene que ser destruida esta ciudad?

Do not listen to them; serve the king of Babylon, and live! Why should this city be laid waste?

18 S i en verdad ellos son profetas, y si la palabra del Señor los respalda, pídanle ahora al Señor de los ejércitos que los utensilios que han quedado en la casa del Señor, y en el palacio del rey de Judá y en Jerusalén, no sean llevados a Babilonia.

But if they are prophets, and if the word of the Lord is with them, let them now make intercession to the Lord of hosts, that the vessels which are left in the house of the Lord, in the house of the king of Judah, and at Jerusalem, do not go to Babylon.’

19 P orque el Señor de los ejércitos ha hablado acerca de las columnas, del estanque, de las basas y del resto de los utensilios que quedan en esta ciudad

“For thus says the Lord of hosts concerning the pillars, concerning the Sea, concerning the carts, and concerning the remainder of the vessels that remain in this city,

20 y que no quitó Nabucodonosor rey de Babilonia cuando se llevó de Jerusalén a Babilonia a Jeconías hijo de Joacín, rey de Judá, y a todos los nobles de Judá y de Jerusalén.

which Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon did not take, when he carried away captive Jeconiah the son of Jehoiakim, king of Judah, from Jerusalem to Babylon, and all the nobles of Judah and Jerusalem—

21 E sto es lo que dijo el Señor de los ejércitos, Dios de Israel, acerca de los utensilios que quedaron en su templo, y en el palacio del rey de Judá y en Jerusalén:

yes, thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, concerning the vessels that remain in the house of the Lord, and in the house of the king of Judah and of Jerusalem:

22 « Serán llevados a Babilonia, y allí se quedarán hasta el día en que yo los visite. Después de eso volveré a traerlos y los restauraré a este lugar.» —Palabra del Señor.

‘They shall be carried to Babylon, and there they shall be until the day that I visit them,’ says the Lord. ‘Then I will bring them up and restore them to this place.’”
