1 C omo Ajab tenía setenta hijos en Samaria, Jehú escribió cartas y las envió a los jefes de Jezrel, y a los ancianos y a los ayos de Ajab, que estaban en Samaria. En las cartas les decía:

Now Ahab had seventy sons in Samaria. And Jehu wrote and sent letters to Samaria, to the rulers of Jezreel, to the elders, and to those who reared Ahab’s sons, saying:

2 « Tan pronto como estas cartas lleguen a las manos de ustedes, los que tengan a los hijos del rey, y los que tengan carros de combate y gente de a caballo, y la ciudad fortificada y las armas,

Now as soon as this letter comes to you, since your master’s sons are with you, and you have chariots and horses, a fortified city also, and weapons,

3 e scojan al mejor y más recto de los hijos del rey, y siéntenlo en el trono de su padre, y defiendan a la familia del rey.»

choose the best qualified of your master’s sons, set him on his father’s throne, and fight for your master’s house.

4 P ero ellos tuvieron mucho miedo, y dijeron: «Si dos reyes no pudieron hacerle frente, ¿cómo vamos a hacerle frente nosotros?»

But they were exceedingly afraid, and said, “Look, two kings could not stand up to him; how then can we stand?”

5 E ntonces el mayordomo, el gobernador de la ciudad, los ancianos y los ayos mandaron a decir a Jehú: «Nosotros somos tus siervos, y haremos todo lo que nos mandes. No vamos a elegir ningún rey. Haz lo que te parezca mejor.»

And he who was in charge of the house, and he who was in charge of the city, the elders also, and those who reared the sons, sent to Jehu, saying, “We are your servants, we will do all you tell us; but we will not make anyone king. Do what is good in your sight.”

6 J ehú les escribió por segunda vez, y les dijo: «Si en verdad ustedes son mis siervos, y quieren obedecerme, vengan a verme en Jezrel mañana a esta hora, y tráiganme las cabezas de los hijos varones de su rey.» Los setenta hijos del rey estaban con los jefes de la ciudad, pues ellos los criaban.

Then he wrote a second letter to them, saying: If you are for me and will obey my voice, take the heads of the men, your master’s sons, and come to me at Jezreel by this time tomorrow. Now the king’s sons, seventy persons, were with the great men of the city, who were rearing them.

7 C uando éstos recibieron las cartas, tomaron a los setenta hijos del rey y los degollaron; luego echaron las cabezas en unas canastas y las enviaron a Jezrel, donde estaba Jehú.

So it was, when the letter came to them, that they took the king’s sons and slaughtered seventy persons, put their heads in baskets and sent them to him at Jezreel.

8 C uando un mensajero llegó y le dio la noticia de que habían llegado las cabezas de los hijos del rey, Jehú dijo: «Pónganlas en dos montones a la entrada de la ciudad, y déjenlas allí hasta mañana.»

Then a messenger came and told him, saying, “They have brought the heads of the king’s sons.” And he said, “Lay them in two heaps at the entrance of the gate until morning.”

9 A l día siguiente, Jehú salió y, puesto de pie ante todo el pueblo, dijo: «Ustedes son justos. Es verdad que yo he conspirado contra mi señor, y le he dado muerte. Pero ¿quién ha dado muerte a todos estos?

So it was, in the morning, that he went out and stood, and said to all the people, “You are righteous. Indeed I conspired against my master and killed him; but who killed all these?

10 Q uiero que sepan que la palabra del Señor, acerca de la dinastía de Ajab, no dejará de cumplirse. El Señor ha hecho lo que había anunciado por medio de su siervo Elías.»

Know now that nothing shall fall to the earth of the word of the Lord which the Lord spoke concerning the house of Ahab; for the Lord has done what He spoke by His servant Elijah.”

11 D icho esto, Jehú mató a todos los de la familia de Ajab que habían quedado en Jezrel, y a todos sus jefes y sacerdotes, y a todos sus familiares. No dejó con vida a ninguno de ellos.

So Jehu killed all who remained of the house of Ahab in Jezreel, and all his great men and his close acquaintances and his priests, until he left him none remaining. Ahaziah’s Forty-two Brothers Killed

12 L uego se levantó y se fue a Samaria, y en el camino llegó a Bet Équed de los Pastores.

And he arose and departed and went to Samaria. On the way, at Beth Eked of the Shepherds,

13 A llí encontró a los hermanos de Ocozías, el rey de Judá, y les preguntó: «¿Y ustedes, quiénes son?» Ellos le contestaron: «Somos hermanos de Ocozías. Hemos venido a saludar a los hijos del rey, y a los hijos de la reina.»

Jehu met with the brothers of Ahaziah king of Judah, and said, “Who are you?” So they answered, “We are the brothers of Ahaziah; we have come down to greet the sons of the king and the sons of the queen mother.”

14 E ntonces Jehú ordenó: «¡Échenles mano! ¡Los quiero vivos!» Y una vez que los tomaron vivos, los degollaron junto al pozo de Bet Équed. Eran cuarenta y dos varones, y ninguno de ellos quedó con vida.

And he said, “Take them alive!” So they took them alive, and killed them at the well of Beth Eked, forty-two men; and he left none of them. The Rest of Ahab’s Family Killed

15 C uando Jehú se fue de allí, se encontró con Jonadab hijo de Recab. Después de saludarlo, le dijo: «¿Eres sincero conmigo, como yo lo soy contigo?» Jonadab le respondió que sí. Entonces Jehú le dijo: «Pues ya que eres sincero conmigo, dame la mano.» Jonadab le dio la mano, y Jehú lo invitó a subir a su carro.

Now when he departed from there, he met Jehonadab the son of Rechab, coming to meet him; and he greeted him and said to him, “Is your heart right, as my heart is toward your heart?” And Jehonadab answered, “It is.” Jehu said, “If it is, give me your hand.” So he gave him his hand, and he took him up to him into the chariot.

16 A llí le dijo: «Acompáñame y verás cuánto amo al Señor.» Jonatán fue puesto en el carro,

Then he said, “Come with me, and see my zeal for the Lord.” So they had him ride in his chariot.

17 y en cuanto Jehú llegó a Samaria mató a todos los familiares de Ajab que habían quedado en Samaria. Los mató hasta exterminarlos, conforme a la palabra del Señor anunciada por Elías. Jehú pone fin al culto de Baal

And when he came to Samaria, he killed all who remained to Ahab in Samaria, till he had destroyed them, according to the word of the Lord which He spoke to Elijah. Worshipers of Baal Killed

18 D espués, Jehú reunió a todo el pueblo y les dijo: «Ajab rindió culto a Baal, pero no muy bien. Jehú le rendirá un mejor culto.

Then Jehu gathered all the people together, and said to them, “Ahab served Baal a little, Jehu will serve him much.

19 L lamen a todos los profetas de Baal, y a todos sus siervos y sacerdotes. Que no falte ninguno, pues voy a ofrecer a Baal un gran sacrificio. El que falte, morirá.» Esto lo hizo Jehú con astucia, para exterminar a los que rendían culto a Baal.

Now therefore, call to me all the prophets of Baal, all his servants, and all his priests. Let no one be missing, for I have a great sacrifice for Baal. Whoever is missing shall not live.” But Jehu acted deceptively, with the intent of destroying the worshipers of Baal.

20 A sí que dijo: «Aparten un día para honrar a Baal.» Aquellos convocaron a la reunión,

And Jehu said, “Proclaim a solemn assembly for Baal.” So they proclaimed it.

21 y Jehú envió mensajeros por todo Israel, y vinieron todos los siervos de Baal. No hubo uno solo que no asistiera a la reunión. Cuando entraron en el templo de Baal, el templo se llenó por completo.

Then Jehu sent throughout all Israel; and all the worshipers of Baal came, so that there was not a man left who did not come. So they came into the temple of Baal, and the temple of Baal was full from one end to the other.

22 E ntonces Jehú ordenó al encargado de las vestiduras: «Saca vestiduras para todos los siervos de Baal.» Aquél sacó las vestiduras,

And he said to the one in charge of the wardrobe, “Bring out vestments for all the worshipers of Baal.” So he brought out vestments for them.

23 y Jehú entró en el templo de Baal acompañado por Jonadab hijo de Recab. Y dijo a los siervos de Baal: «Tengan cuidado de que no haya aquí, entre ustedes, ninguno de los siervos del Señor, sino solamente los siervos de Baal.»

Then Jehu and Jehonadab the son of Rechab went into the temple of Baal, and said to the worshipers of Baal, “Search and see that no servants of the Lord are here with you, but only the worshipers of Baal.”

24 C uando ellos entraron para ofrecer los sacrificios y holocaustos, Jehú apostó fuera del templo a ochenta hombres, y les dijo: «El que deje vivo a cualquiera de los hombres que yo he puesto en sus manos, lo pagará con su vida.»

So they went in to offer sacrifices and burnt offerings. Now Jehu had appointed for himself eighty men on the outside, and had said, “ If any of the men whom I have brought into your hands escapes, whoever lets him escape, it shall be his life for the life of the other.”

25 C uando aquellos acabaron de ofrecer el holocausto, Jehú dijo a los de su guardia y a los capitanes: «¡Entren, y mátenlos! ¡Que no escape ninguno!» Y los de la guardia y los capitanes los mataron a filo de espada, y los dejaron tendidos. Luego fueron hasta el lugar santo del templo de Baal

Now it happened, as soon as he had made an end of offering the burnt offering, that Jehu said to the guard and to the captains, “Go in and kill them; let no one come out!” And they killed them with the edge of the sword; then the guards and the officers threw them out, and went into the inner room of the temple of Baal.

26 y sacaron del templo las estatuas y las quemaron.

And they brought the sacred pillars out of the temple of Baal and burned them.

27 T ambién hicieron pedazos la estatua de Baal y derribaron su templo, y hasta el día de hoy ese templo es un muladar.

Then they broke down the sacred pillar of Baal, and tore down the temple of Baal and made it a refuse dump to this day.

28 A sí fue como Jehú puso fin en Israel al culto de Baal.

Thus Jehu destroyed Baal from Israel.

29 S in embargo, Jehú no se apartó de los pecados de Jeroboán hijo de Nabat, que hizo pecar a Israel, sino que dejó en pie los becerros de oro que estaban en Betel y en Dan.

However Jehu did not turn away from the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who had made Israel sin, that is, from the golden calves that were at Bethel and Dan.

30 E ntonces el Señor le dijo a Jehú: «Has actuado bien al hacer lo recto delante de mis ojos, y acabaste con la dinastía de Ajab, tal y como yo lo había determinado. Por eso tus hijos ocuparán el trono de Israel hasta la cuarta generación.»

And the Lord said to Jehu, “Because you have done well in doing what is right in My sight, and have done to the house of Ahab all that was in My heart, your sons shall sit on the throne of Israel to the fourth generation. ”

31 P ero Jehú no tuvo cuidado de seguir de todo corazón la ley del Señor, Dios de Israel, ni se apartó de los pecados con que Jeroboán había hecho pecar a Israel.

But Jehu took no heed to walk in the law of the Lord God of Israel with all his heart; for he did not depart from the sins of Jeroboam, who had made Israel sin. Death of Jehu

32 P or esos días el Señor comenzó a reducir el territorio de Israel, y Jazael los derrotó a lo largo de todas sus fronteras,

In those days the Lord began to cut off parts of Israel; and Hazael conquered them in all the territory of Israel

33 d esde el Jordán hasta el nacimiento del sol, y toda la tierra de Galaad, de Gad, de Rubén y de Manasés; y desde Aroer, que está junto al arroyo de Arnón, hasta Galaad y Basán.

from the Jordan eastward: all the land of Gilead—Gad, Reuben, and Manasseh—from Aroer, which is by the River Arnon, including Gilead and Bashan.

34 L os otros hechos de Jehú, y todas sus obras y hazañas, se hallan registradas en el libro de las crónicas de los reyes de Israel.

Now the rest of the acts of Jehu, all that he did, and all his might, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?

35 C uando Jehú se reunió con sus antepasados, fue sepultado en Samaria. En su lugar reinó Joacaz, su hijo.

So Jehu rested with his fathers, and they buried him in Samaria. Then Jehoahaz his son reigned in his place.

36 E l tiempo que Jehú reinó en Samaria sobre Israel fue de veintiocho años.

And the period that Jehu reigned over Israel in Samaria was twenty-eight years.
