1 T hen Nahash the Ammonite came up, and encamped against Jabeshgilead: and all the men of Jabesh said unto Nahash, Make a covenant with us, and we will serve thee.

След това амонецът Наас излезе и разположи стан против Явис-галаад; и всички явиски мъже казаха на Наас: Сключѝ договор с нас и ще ти слугуваме.

2 A nd Nahash the Ammonite answered them, On this condition will I make a covenant with you, that I may thrust out all your right eyes, and lay it for a reproach upon all Israel.

А амонецът Наас им отвърна: При едно условие ще сключа договор с вас: ще извадя десните очи на всички ви; и ще поставя това за позор върху целия Израел.

3 A nd the elders of Jabesh said unto him, Give us seven days' respite, that we may send messengers unto all the coasts of Israel: and then, if there be no man to save us, we will come out to thee.

Явиските старейшини му казаха: Дай ни седемдневен срок, за да пратим вестоносци по всички предели на Израел. И тогава, ако няма кой да ни избави, ще ти се предадем.

4 T hen came the messengers to Gibeah of Saul, and told the tidings in the ears of the people: and all the people lifted up their voices, and wept.

И така, вестоносците отидоха в Сауловия град Гавая и разказаха всичко на всеослушание пред народа; и целият народ плака със силен глас.

5 A nd, behold, Saul came after the herd out of the field; and Saul said, What aileth the people that they weep? And they told him the tidings of the men of Jabesh.

А Саул идваше след воловете си от полето. Той запита: Какво се е случило, че народът плаче? И му съобщиха думите на явиските мъже.

6 A nd the Spirit of God came upon Saul when he heard those tidings, and his anger was kindled greatly.

Тогава Божият дух дойде със сила върху Саул, когато чу онези думи, и той силно се разгневи.

7 A nd he took a yoke of oxen, and hewed them in pieces, and sent them throughout all the coasts of Israel by the hands of messengers, saying, Whosoever cometh not forth after Saul and after Samuel, so shall it be done unto his oxen. And the fear of the Lord fell on the people, and they came out with one consent.

Взе два вола, наряза ги на части и ги прати по всички предели на Израел по вестоносци, за да кажат: Който не излезе след Саул и след Самуил, така ще бъде направено с воловете му. И страх от Господа обзе народа. Всички излязоха като един човек.

8 A nd when he numbered them in Bezek, the children of Israel were three hundred thousand, and the men of Judah thirty thousand.

След като Саул ги преброи във Везек, израелтяните бяха триста хиляди души, а Юдовите мъже - тридесет хиляди души.

9 A nd they said unto the messengers that came, Thus shall ye say unto the men of Jabeshgilead, To morrow, by that time the sun be hot, ye shall have help. And the messengers came and shewed it to the men of Jabesh; and they were glad.

И казаха на вестоносците, които бяха дошли: Кажете на явисгалаадските мъже, че утре, като припече слънцето, ще ви дойде избавление. А когато вестоносците дойдоха и донесоха вестта на явиските мъже, те се зарадваха.

10 T herefore the men of Jabesh said, To morrow we will come out unto you, and ye shall do with us all that seemeth good unto you.

Явиските мъже казаха на амонците: Утре ще ви се предадем и вие правете с нас каквото искате.

11 A nd it was so on the morrow, that Saul put the people in three companies; and they came into the midst of the host in the morning watch, and slew the Ammonites until the heat of the day: and it came to pass, that they which remained were scattered, so that two of them were not left together.

На сутринта Саул раздели народа на три дружини; и по време на утринната стража те нападнаха стана и избиваха амонците, докато се стопли денят; и оцелелите от тях се разпръснаха, така че нито двама от тях не останаха заедно.

12 A nd the people said unto Samuel, Who is he that said, Shall Saul reign over us? bring the men, that we may put them to death.

Тогава народът попита Самуил: Кой е онзи, който каза: Саул ли ще се възцари над нас? Доведете тези мъже, за да ги избием.

13 A nd Saul said, There shall not a man be put to death this day: for to day the Lord hath wrought salvation in Israel.

Но Саул каза: Никой няма да бъде убит този ден; защото днес Господ извърши избавление в Израел.

14 T hen said Samuel to the people, Come, and let us go to Gilgal, and renew the kingdom there.

Тогава Самуил се обърна към народа с думите: Елате да идем в Галгал и там да възобновим царството.

15 A nd all the people went to Gilgal; and there they made Saul king before the Lord in Gilgal; and there they sacrificed sacrifices of peace offerings before the Lord; and there Saul and all the men of Israel rejoiced greatly.

И така, целият народ отиде в Галгал и поставиха Саул цар пред Господа там, в Галгал. Там и пожертваха мирни жертви пред Господа; и Саул и всички Израелеви мъже се развеселиха там твърде много.
