1 J oash was seven years old when he began to reign, and he reigned forty years in Jerusalem. His mother's name also was Zibiah of Beersheba.

Йоас беше на седем години, когато се възцари, и царува̀ четиридесет години в Йерусалим; името на майка му беше Савия, от Вирсавее.

2 A nd Joash did that which was right in the sight of the Lord all the days of Jehoiada the priest.

Йоас вършеше това, което беше право пред Господа, през всичките дни на свещеник Йодай.

3 A nd Jehoiada took for him two wives; and he begat sons and daughters.

А Йодай му взе две жени; и му се родиха синове и дъщери.

4 A nd it came to pass after this, that Joash was minded to repair the house of the Lord.

След това Йоас си науми да обнови Господния дом.

5 A nd he gathered together the priests and the Levites, and said to them, Go out unto the cities of Judah, and gather of all Israel money to repair the house of your God from year to year, and see that ye hasten the matter. Howbeit the Levites hastened it not.

И така, събра свещениците и левитите и им каза: Излезте по Юдейските градове и съберете от целия Израел пари, за да се поправя домът на вашия Бог от година до година, и гледайте да побързате с работата. Обаче левитите не побързаха.

6 A nd the king called for Jehoiada the chief, and said unto him, Why hast thou not required of the Levites to bring in out of Judah and out of Jerusalem the collection, according to the commandment of Moses the servant of the Lord, and of the congregation of Israel, for the tabernacle of witness?

Тогава царят повика началника на работата Йодай и му каза: Защо не си изискал от левитите да съберат от Юдея и Йерусалим данъка, определен от Господния слуга Моисей да се събира от Израелевото общество, за шатъра на свидетелството?

7 F or the sons of Athaliah, that wicked woman, had broken up the house of God; and also all the dedicated things of the house of the Lord did they bestow upon Baalim.

(Защото нечестивата Готолия и синовете ѝ бяха разорили Божия дом; също така всички посветени неща в Господния дом бяха използвали за ваалимите.)

8 A nd at the king's commandment they made a chest, and set it without at the gate of the house of the Lord.

И така, съгласно царската заповед направиха един ковчег, който сложиха отвън при вратата на Господния дом.

9 A nd they made a proclamation through Judah and Jerusalem, to bring in to the Lord the collection that Moses the servant of God laid upon Israel in the wilderness.

И прогласиха в Юдея и Йерусалим да принасят на Господа данък, наложен върху Израел от Божия слуга Моисей в пустинята.

10 A nd all the princes and all the people rejoiced, and brought in, and cast into the chest, until they had made an end.

Всички първенци и целият народ се зарадваха и донасяха, и слагаха в ковчега, докато се напълнеше.

11 N ow it came to pass, that at what time the chest was brought unto the king's office by the hand of the Levites, and when they saw that there was much money, the king's scribe and the high priest's officer came and emptied the chest, and took it, and carried it to his place again. Thus they did day by day, and gathered money in abundance.

И когато левитите донасяха ковчега при царските настоятели и те виждаха, че имаше много пари, царският секретар и настоятелят на първосвещеника идваха и изпразваха ковчега, и пак го занасяха и поставяха на мястото му. Така правеха от ден на ден и събираха много пари.

12 A nd the king and Jehoiada gave it to such as did the work of the service of the house of the Lord, and hired masons and carpenters to repair the house of the Lord, and also such as wrought iron and brass to mend the house of the Lord.

А царят и Йодай ги даваха на онези, които вършеха делото на служенето в Господния дом; и те наемаха зидари и дърводелци, за да обновят Господния дом, също и ковачи и медникари, за да поправят Господния дом.

13 S o the workmen wrought, and the work was perfected by them, and they set the house of God in his state, and strengthened it.

И така, работниците вършеха работата и обновяването напредваше с труда им, така че възстановиха Божия дом в първото му състояние и го закрепиха.

14 A nd when they had finished it, they brought the rest of the money before the king and Jehoiada, whereof were made vessels for the house of the Lord, even vessels to minister, and to offer withal, and spoons, and vessels of gold and silver. And they offered burnt offerings in the house of the Lord continually all the days of Jehoiada.

Когато свършиха, донесоха останалите пари пред царя и Йодай и с тях направиха съдове за Господния дом, съдове за служене и за принасяне жертви, тамянници и други златни и сребърни съдове. Така непрестанно принасяха всеизгаряния в Господния дом през целия живот на Йодай.

15 B ut Jehoiada waxed old, and was full of days when he died; an hundred and thirty years old was he when he died.

Но Йодай остаря и стана сит от дни, и умря; беше на възраст сто и тридесет години, когато умря.

16 A nd they buried him in the city of David among the kings, because he had done good in Israel, both toward God, and toward his house.

И го погребаха в Давидовия град между царете, понеже беше извършил добро в Израел и пред Бога, и за дома Му.

17 N ow after the death of Jehoiada came the princes of Judah, and made obeisance to the king. Then the king hearkened unto them.

А след смъртта на Йодай Юдейските началници дойдоха и се поклониха на царя. Тогава царят ги послуша;

18 A nd they left the house of the Lord God of their fathers, and served groves and idols: and wrath came upon Judah and Jerusalem for this their trespass.

и те изоставиха дома на Господа, Бога на бащите си, и служиха на ашерите и идолите; и гняв дойде върху Юда и Йерусалим поради това тяхно престъпление.

19 Y et he sent prophets to them, to bring them again unto the Lord; and they testified against them: but they would not give ear.

При все това Бог им прати пророци, за да ги обърнат към Господа, които ги изобличаваха; но те не послушаха.

20 A nd the Spirit of God came upon Zechariah the son of Jehoiada the priest, which stood above the people, and said unto them, Thus saith God, Why transgress ye the commandments of the Lord, that ye cannot prosper? because ye have forsaken the Lord, he hath also forsaken you.

Тогава Божият Дух дойде на Захария, син на свещеник Йодай, и той застана на високо място над народа и му каза: Така казва Бог: Защо престъпвате Господните заповеди? Няма да успеете; понеже вие изоставихте Господа, то и Той изостави вас.

21 A nd they conspired against him, and stoned him with stones at the commandment of the king in the court of the house of the Lord.

Обаче те направиха заговор против него и с царска заповед го убиха с камъни в двора на Господния дом.

22 T hus Joash the king remembered not the kindness which Jehoiada his father had done to him, but slew his son. And when he died, he said, The Lord look upon it, and require it.

Цар Йоас не си спомни доброто, което му беше показал Йодай, неговият баща, а уби сина му; а той, като умираше, каза: Господ да погледне и да издири.

23 A nd it came to pass at the end of the year, that the host of Syria came up against him: and they came to Judah and Jerusalem, and destroyed all the princes of the people from among the people, and sent all the spoil of them unto the king of Damascus.

В края на годината сирийска войска излезе против Йоас; и като дойде в Юдея и Йерусалим, изтребиха всички народни първенци изсред народа и изпратиха всичката плячка, взета от тях, до царя на Дамаск.

24 F or the army of the Syrians came with a small company of men, and the Lord delivered a very great host into their hand, because they had forsaken the Lord God of their fathers. So they executed judgment against Joash.

При все че сирийската войска, която дойде, беше малобройна, пак Господ предаде в ръката им едно твърде голямо множество, понеже те бяха изоставили Господа, Бога на бащите си. Така сирийците изпълниха присъда против Йоас.

25 A nd when they were departed from him, (for they left him in great diseases,) his own servants conspired against him for the blood of the sons of Jehoiada the priest, and slew him on his bed, and he died: and they buried him in the city of David, but they buried him not in the sepulchres of the kings.

А като заминаха от него (и го оставиха страдащ с тежки рани), собствените му слуги направиха заговор против него поради кръвта на сина на свещеник Йодай, и го убиха на леглото му, и той умря; и го погребаха в Давидовия град, но не го погребаха в царските гробища.

26 A nd these are they that conspired against him; Zabad the son of Shimeath an Ammonitess, and Jehozabad the son of Shimrith a Moabitess.

Онези, които направиха заговора против него, бяха: Завад, син на амонката Симеата, и Йозавад, син на моавката Самарита.

27 N ow concerning his sons, and the greatness of the burdens laid upon him, and the repairing of the house of God, behold, they are written in the story of the book of the kings. And Amaziah his son reigned in his stead.

А колкото до синовете му и за тежките товари за откуп, наложени върху него, и за поправянето на Божия дом, всичко е записано в повестите на Книгата на царете. И вместо него се възцари синът му Амасия.
