1 ¶ And Jacob went on his way, and the angels of God met him.

Тогава Яков отиде по пътя си и ангели Божии го срещнаха.

2 A nd when Jacob saw them, he said, This is God’s host; and he called the name of that place Mahanaim.

А като ги видя, Яков рече: Това е Божие войнство; и наименува мястото Маханаим {Т.е., Войнства.}.

3 ¶ And Jacob sent messengers before him to Esau his brother unto the land of Seir, the country of Edom.

И Яков изпрати пред себе си вестители до брата си Исава в Сирийската земя, на местността Едом;

4 A nd he commanded them, saying, Thus shall ye speak unto my lord Esau: Thy slave Jacob saith thus, I have sojourned with Laban and stayed there until now;

и заръча им, казвайки: Така да речете на господаря ми Исава: Слугата ти Яков тъй говори: Бях пришелец при Лавана, и бавих се до сега;

5 a nd I have oxen and asses, flocks, and menslaves, and womenslaves; and I have sent to tell my lord, that I may find grace in thy sight.

придобих говеда, осли и овци, слуги и слугини; и изпратих да известят на господаря ми, за да придобия благоволението ти.

6 A nd the messengers returned to Jacob, saying, We came to thy brother Esau, and also he comes to meet thee, and four hundred men with him.

А вестителите се върнаха при Якова и казаха: Ходихме при брата ти Исава; а и той иде да те посрещне, и четиристотин мъже с него.

7 T hen Jacob was greatly afraid and distressed, and he divided the people that were with him, and the sheep and the cows and the camels, into two bands

А Яков, като се уплаши много и се смути, раздели людете, които бяха с него, и стадата, говедата и камилите, на две дружини, казвайки:

8 a nd said, If Esau comes to the one company and smites it, then the other company which is left shall escape.

Ако налети Исав на едната дружина и я удари, останалата дружина ще се избави.

9 ¶ And Jacob said, O God of my father Abraham and God of my father Isaac, the LORD who said unto me, Return unto thy country and to thy kindred, and I will deal well with thee.

Тогава Яков каза: Боже на баща ми Авраам, и Боже на баща ми Исаака, Господи, Който си ми рекъл: Върни се в отечеството си и при рода си и Аз ще ти сторя добро,

10 I am not worthy of the least of all the mercies and of all the truth which thou hast showed unto thy slave; for with my staff I passed over this Jordan and now I am become two bands.

не съм достоен за най-малката от всичките милости и от всичката вярност, които си показал на слугата Си; защото <едвам> с тоягата си преминах тоя Иордан, а сега станах два стана.

11 D eliver me, I pray thee, from the hand of my brother, from the hand of Esau, for I fear him lest he come and smite me and the mother with the children.

Избави ме, моля Ти се, от ръката на брата ми, от ръката на Исава; защото се боя от него, да не би, като дойде, да порази и мен и майка с чада.

12 A nd thou hast said, I will surely do thee good and make thy seed as the sand of the sea, which cannot be numbered for multitude.

А Ти си казал: Наистина ще ти сторя добро и ще направя потомството ти като морския пясък, който поради множеството <си> не може да се изброи.

13 ¶ And he lodged there that same night and took of that which came to his hand as a present for Esau his brother:

Като пренощува там оная нощ, взе от онова, що му дойде под ръка, за подарък на брата си Исава:

14 t wo hundred she goats and twenty he goats, two hundred sheep and twenty rams,

двеста кози и двадесет козли, двеста овци и двадесет овни,

15 t hirty milk camels with their colts, forty cows and ten bulls, twenty she asses, and ten foals.

тридесет дойни камили с малките им, четиридесет крави и десет юнци, двадесет ослици и десет жребчета,

16 A nd he delivered them into the hand of his slaves, every drove by themselves and said unto his slaves, Pass before me and put a space between drove and drove.

и предаде всяко стадо отделно в ръцете на слугите си. И рече на слугите си: Минете пред мене, и оставете разстояние между едно стадо и друго.

17 A nd he commanded the foremost, saying, When Esau, my brother, meets thee and asks thee, saying, Whose art thou? And where goest thou? And for whom are these before thee?

На първия заръча, като каза: Когато те срещне брат ми Исав и те попита, казвайки: Чий си? Къде отиваш? Чии са тия пред тебе?

18 T hen thou shalt say, They are thy slave Jacob’s; it is a present sent unto my lord Esau; and, behold, also he is behind us.

Тогава ще кажеш: Те са на слугата ти Якова; подарък е, който изпраща на господаря ми Исава; и той иде подир нас.

19 A nd so commanded he the second and the third and all that followed those droves, saying, On this manner shall ye speak unto Esau when ye find him.

Така заръча и на втория, на третия и на всичките, които вървяха подир стадата, като казваше: По тоя начин ще говорите на Исава, когато го срещнете;

20 A nd ye shall also say, Behold, thy slave Jacob is behind us. For he said, I will reconcile his wrath with the present that goes before me, and afterward I will see his face; peradventure he will accept me.

и ще речете: Ето, слугата ти Яков иде подир нас. Защото си думаше: Ще го умилостивя с подаръка, който върви пред мене и после ще видя лицето му; може би ще ме приеме <благосклонно>.

21 S o the present went over before him, and he lodged that night in the company.

И тъй, подаръкът мина пред него, но сам той остана през оная нощ в стана.

22 A nd he rose up that night and took his two wives and his two womenservants and his eleven sons and passed over the ford Jabbok.

А като стана през нощта, взе двете си жени, двете си слугини и единадесетте си деца, и премина брода на Явок {В изданието от 1940 г. Яков - печатна грешка.}.

23 A nd he took them and sent them over the brook and sent over all that he had.

Взе ги и ги прекара през потока, прекара и всичко що имаше.

24 ¶ And Jacob was left alone, and a man wrestled with him until the breaking of the day.

А Яков остана сам. И един човек се бореше с него до зазоряване,

25 A nd when the man saw that he did not prevail against him, he touched the hollow of his thigh; and the hollow of Jacob’s thigh was disjointed as he wrestled with him.

който, като видя, че не му надви, допря се до ставата на бедрото му; и ставата на Якововото бедро се измести, като се бореше с него.

26 A nd he said, Let me go, for the day breaks. And he said, I will not let thee go except thou bless me.

Тогава <човекът> рече: Пусни ме да си отида, защото се зазори. А <Яков> каза: Няма да те пусна да си отидеш, догде не ме благословиш.

27 A nd he said unto him, What is thy name? And he said, Jacob.

А той му каза: Как ти е името? Отговори: Яков.

28 A nd he said, Thy name shall no longer be called Jacob, but Israel; for thou hast fought with God and with men, and hast prevailed.

А той рече: Няма да се именуваш вече Яков, но Израил {Т.е., Борец с Бога.}, защото си бил в борба с Бога и с човеци и си надвил.

29 A nd Jacob asked him and said, Tell me, I pray thee, thy name. And he said, Why dost thou ask after my name? And he blessed him there.

А Яков го попита, като рече: Кажи ми, моля, твоето име. А той рече: Защо питаш за моето име? И благослови го там.

30 A nd Jacob called the name of the place Peniel; for I have seen God face to face, and my soul was saved.

И Яков наименува мястото Фануил {Т.е., Божието лице.}, защото, <си казваше:> Видях Бога лице с лице и животът ми биде опазен.

31 A nd as he passed over Penuel, the sun rose upon him, and he limped upon his thigh.

Слънцето го огря, като заминаваше Фануил; и куцаше с бедрото си.

32 T herefore the sons of Israel do not eat of the sinew which shrank, which is upon the hollow of the thigh, unto this day, because he touched the hollow of Jacob’s thigh in the sinew that shrank.

Затова и до днес израилтяните не ядат сухата жила, която е върху ставата на бедрото; защото <човекът> се допря до ставата на Якововото бедро при сухата жила.
