1 ¶ Now the Philistines gathered together their armies to battle and were gathered together at Shochoh, which belongs to Judah, and pitched camp between Shochoh and Azekah in Ephesdammim.

2 A nd Saul and the men of Israel were gathered together and pitched camp by the valley of Elah and ordered the battle against the Philistines.

А Саул и Израилевите мъже се събраха та разположиха стан в долината Ила, и се опълчиха за бой против филистимците.

3 A nd the Philistines stood on a mountain on the one side, and Israel stood on a mountain on the other side; and there was a valley between them.

Филистимците стояха на хълма от едната страна, а Израил стоеше на хълма от другата страна, и долината беше помежду им.

4 A nd a man named Goliath, of Gath, whose height was six cubits and a span, came out of the camp of the Philistines and stood between the two camps.

И от филистимския стан излезе юнак на име Голиат, от Гет, шест лакътя и една педя висок.

5 A nd he had a helmet of brass upon his head, and he was clothed with a coat of mail of scales; and the weight of the coat of mail was five thousand shekels of brass.

Той имаше меден шлем на главата си, и бе облечен с люспеста броня, тежината на бронята беше пет хиляди сикли мед,

6 A nd he had greaves of brass upon his legs and a shield of brass between his shoulders.

и с медни ногавки на пищялите си и медно щитче между рамената си.

7 A nd the staff of his spear was like a weaver’s beam, and his spear’s head weighed six hundred shekels of iron, and one bearing a shield went before him.

Дръжката на копието му беше като кросно на тъкач; и острието на копието му <тежеше> шестстотин сикли желязо; и щитоносецът му вървеше пред него.

8 A nd he stood and cried unto the armies of Israel and said unto them, Why are ye come out to set your battle in array? Am I not a Philistine, and ye slaves to Saul? Choose a man from among you, and let him come down to me.

И той застана та извика към Израилевите редове, като им каза: Защо излязохте да се опълчите за бой? Не съм ли аз филистимец, и вие Саулови слуги? Изберете си един мъж, па нека слезе при мене.

9 I f he is able to fight with me and to overcome me, then will we be your slaves, but if I prevail against him and overcome him, then ye shall be our slaves and serve us.

Ако може да се бие с мене и да ме убие, тогава ние ще ви бъдем слуги; но ако му надвия аз и го убия, тогава вие ще ни бъдете слуги и ще ни се подчинявате.

10 A nd the Philistine said, I have dishonoured the ranks of Israel today; give me a man that we may fight together.

Филистимецът рече още: Аз хвърлям презрение днес върху Израилевите редове; дайте ми мъж да се бием двама.

11 W hen Saul and all Israel heard those words of the Philistine, they were dismayed and greatly afraid.

А Саул и целият Израил, когато чуха тия думи на филистимеца, смаяха се и се уплашиха твърде много.

12 ¶ And David was the son of an Ephrathite man of Bethlehem of Judah, whose name was Jesse, and he had eight sons, and this man was old in the days of Saul and of advanced age among men.

А Давид беше син на оня ефратянин от Витлеем Юдов, който се именуваше Есей, и имаше осем сина; и в Сауловите дни тоя човек имаше старейшински чин между хората.

13 A nd the three eldest sons of Jesse had gone and followed Saul to the battle. And the names of his three sons that went to the battle were Eliab, the firstborn, and next unto him Abinadab and the third Shammah.

И тримата по-големи сина на Есея бяха отишли подир Саула във войната; и имената на тримата му сина, които отидоха на войната, бяха - на първородния Елиав, на другия след него, Авинадав и на третия Сама.

14 A nd David was the youngest, the three eldest having gone after Saul.

Давид беше най-младият; а тримата по-големи следваха Саула.

15 B ut David had gone and returned from being with Saul to feed his father’s sheep in Bethlehem.

А Давид отиваше от Саула, за да пасе овците на баща си във Витлеем и се връщаше.

16 A nd the Philistine drew near morning and evening and presented himself for forty days.

И филистимецът се приближаваше заран и вечер и се представяше четиридесет дена.

17 A nd Jesse said unto David his son, Take now for thy brethren an ephah of this parched grain and these ten loaves and run to the camp to thy brethren

В това време Есей каза на сина си Давида: Вземи сега за братята си една ефа пържено жито и тия десет хляба та ги занеси бърже на братята си в стана;

18 a nd carry these ten cheeses unto the captain of their thousand and look how thy brethren fare and take their pledge.

а тия десет пити сирене занеси на хилядника им; и виж, здрави ли са братята ти, и вземи <ми> белег от тях.

19 N ow Saul and they and all the men of Israel were in the valley of Elah, fighting against the Philistines.

Саул и те и всичките Израилеви мъже са в долината Ила, дето се бият с филистимците.

20 A nd David rose up early in the morning and left the sheep with a keeper and took and went with his burden as Jesse had commanded him, and he came to the trench as the host was going forth in battle array, and they had already sounded the alarm for the battle.

Прочее, на сутринта Давид стана рано, остави овците на пазач, и взе нещата та отиде както Есей {В изданието от 1940 г. Иесей - печатна грешка.} му бе заповядал; и той отиде при оградата от коли когато войската, при излизането си да се опълчи, извикваше гръмогласно за битката.

21 F or Israel and the Philistines had ordered the battle, army against army.

И Израил и филистимците се опълчиха войска срещу войска.

22 A nd David left his carriage in the hand of the keeper of the carriage and ran into the army and came and asked about his brethren, if they were well.

А Давид остави товара си под грижата на товаропазача, и като се завтече към войската, дойде та попита братята си за здравето им.

23 A nd as he talked with them, behold, there came up that man, the Philistine of Gath, Goliath by name, out of the armies of the Philistines, speaking the same words, and David heard them.

И като се разговаряше с тях, ето юнакът, филистимецът от Гет, на име Голиат, излизаше от филистимските редове та говореше според същите думи; и Давид го чу.

24 A nd all the men of Israel when they saw the man fled from him and feared greatly.

А всичките Израилеви мъже, като видяха тоя мъж, побягнаха от него и много се уплашиха.

25 A nd each one of the men of Israel were saying, Have ye seen this man that is come up? He is come up to dishonour Israel. It shall be that the king will enrich the man who overcomes him with great riches and will give him his daughter and make his father’s house free in Israel.

И Израилевите мъже думаха: Видяхте ли тоя мъж, който възлиза? Наистина той възлезе да хвърли презрение върху Израиля; обаче, който го убие, него царят ще обогати с голямо богатство, и ще му даде дъщеря си и ще направи бащиния му дом свободен в Израиля.

26 T hen David spoke to the men that stood by him, saying, What shall be done to the man that overcomes this Philistine and takes away the reproach from Israel? For who is this uncircumcised Philistine that he should dishonour the armies of the living God?

И Давид проговори на стоящите при него мъже като каза: Какво ще се направи на онзи, който порази тоя филистимец и отмахне укора, от Израиля? защото кой е тоя необрязан филистимец та да хвърли презрение върху войските на живия Бог?

27 A nd the people answered him after this manner, saying, So shall it be done to the man that overcomes him.

И людете му отговориха според казаните думи, като рекоха: така ще се направи на мъжа, който би го поразил.

28 A nd Eliab, his eldest brother, heard when he spoke unto the men, and Eliab’s anger was kindled against David, and he said, Why didst thou come down here? And with whom hast thou left those few sheep in the wilderness? I know thy pride and the malice of thy heart, for thou art come down that thou might see the battle.

А като чу Елиав, най-големият му брат, как говореше на мъжете, гневът на Елиава пламна против Давида, и рече: Защо си слязъл тук? и кому си оставил онези малко овци в пустинята? Аз зная гордостта ти и лукавщината на сърцето ти; ти си слязъл, за да видиш битката.

29 A nd David said, What have I now done? Is there not a cause?

И Давид каза: Що съм сторил сега? няма ли причина?

30 A nd he turned from him toward another and spoke after the same manner, and the people answered him again after the former manner.

И обърна се от него към другиго и говори по същия начин; и людете пак му отговориха според първите думи.

31 ¶ And the words which David had spoken were heard, and they were rehearsed before Saul, and he sent for him.

И когато се чуха думите, които говори Давид, известиха ги на Саула; и той го повика при себе си.

32 A nd David said to Saul, Let no man’s heart fail because of him; thy slave will go and fight with this Philistine.

И Давид каза на Саула: Да не отпада сърцето на никого поради този. Слугата ти ще иде и ще се бие с тоя филистимец.

33 A nd Saul said to David, Thou art not able to go against this Philistine to fight with him, for thou art but a young man, and he a man of war from his youth.

Но Саул каза на Давида: Ти не можеш да идеш против тоя филистимец да се биеш с него; защото ти си дете, а той е войнствен мъж още от младостта си.

34 A nd David replied unto Saul, Thy slave was the pastor of his father’s sheep, and if a lion or a bear came and took a lamb out of the flock,

А Давид рече на Саула: Слугата ти пасеше овците на баща си; и когато дойдеше лъв или мечка та грабнеше агне от стадото,

35 I went out after him and smote him and delivered it out of his mouth; and if he arose against me, I caught him by his beard and smote him and slew him.

аз го подгонвах та го поразявах, и отървавах <грабнатото> от устата му; и когато се дигнеше върху мене, хващах го за брадата, поразявах го, и го убивах.

36 W hether it was a lion or a bear thy slave would kill it, and this uncircumcised Philistine shall be as one of them, seeing he has dishonoured the armies of the living God.

Слугата ти е убивал и лъв и мечка, и тоя необрязан филистимец ще бъде като едно от тях, понеже хвърли презрение върху войските на живия Бог.

37 D avid said moreover, The LORD that delivered me out of the paw of the lion, and out of the paw of the bear, he will deliver me out of the hand of this Philistine. And Saul said unto David, Go, and the LORD be with thee.

Рече още Давид: Господ, Който ме отърва от лапата на лъв и от лапата на мечка, Той ще ме отърве и от ръката на тоя филистимец. И Саул каза на Давида: Иди; и Господ да бъде с тебе.

38 A nd Saul clothed David with his clothing, and he put a helmet of brass upon his head; he also armed him with a coat of mail.

Тогава Саул облече Давида с облеклото си, и тури меден шлем на главата му, и облече го с броня.

39 A nd David girded Saul’s sword upon Saul’s clothing, and he undertook to go, for he had not proved them. And David said unto Saul, I cannot go with these, for I have not proved them. And putting them off, David

И Давид препаса неговия меч над облеклото му и се постара да походи, защото не беше навикнал с тях. И Давид каза на Саула: Не мога да ходя с тия <оръжия>, защото не съм навикнал. И така Давид ги съблече.

40 ¶ took his staff in his hand and chose five smooth stones out of the brook and put them in a shepherd’s bag which he had, even in a provision bag, and with his sling in his hand he drew near to the Philistine.

И взе тоягата си в ръка, и като си избра пет гладки камъка от потока и ги тури в овчарската си торба, той се приближаваше към филистимеца с прашката си в ръка.

41 A nd the Philistine came on and drew near unto David, and the man that bore the shield went before him.

И филистимецът напредваше и се приближаваше към Давида; и щитоносецът вървеше пред него.

42 A nd when the Philistine looked about and saw David, he disdained him, for he was but a youth and ruddy and of a fair countenance.

И когато филистимецът погледна наоколо и видя Давида, презря го, защото беше дете и рус и красив на лице.

43 A nd the Philistine said unto David, Am I a dog that thou comest to me with staves? And the Philistine cursed David by his gods.

И филистимецът каза на Давида: Куче ли съм аз, та идеш против мене с тояга? И филистимецът прокле Давида с боговете си.

44 A nd the Philistine said to David, Come to me, and I will give thy flesh unto the fowls of the heaven and to the beasts of the field.

Филистимецът още каза на Давида: Дойди при мене, и ще дам месата ти на въздушните птици и на земните зверове.

45 T hen David said to the Philistine, Thou comest to me with a sword and with a spear and with a shield, but I come to thee in the name of the LORD of the hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom thou hast dishonoured.

А Давид каза на филистимеца: Ти идеш против мене с меч и копие и сулица; а аз ида против тебе в името на Господа на Силите, Бога на Израилевите войски, върху които ти хвърли презрение.

46 T his day the LORD will deliver thee into my hand, and I will smite thee and take thy head from thee, and I will give the carcasses of the host of the Philistines this day unto the fowls of the heaven and to the wild beasts of the earth, that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel.

Днес Господ ще те предаде в ръката ми; и като те поразя ще ти отнема главата, и днес ще предам труповете на филистимското множество на въздушните птици и на земните зверове; за да познае целият свят, че има Бог в Израиля,

47 A nd all this congregation shall know that the LORD does not save with sword and spear, for the battle is the LORD’s, and he will give you into our hands.

и да познаят всички тук събрани, че Господ не избавя с меч и копие; защото боят е на Господа, и Той ще ви предаде в нашата ръка.

48 ¶ And it came to pass when the Philistine arose and came and drew near to meet David that David hastened and ran to do battle against the Philistine.

И като стана филистимецът та идваше и се приближаваше да посрещне Давида, Давид побърза и се завтече към редовете да посрещне филистимеца.

49 A nd David put his hand in his bag and took a stone from there and slang it and smote the Philistine in his forehead, that the stone remained sunk into his forehead, and he fell upon his face to the earth.

И Давид тури ръката си в торбата си та взе от там камък, и като го хвърли с прашката, удари филистимеца в челото му, така щото камъкът се заби в челото му; и той падна по лицето си на земята.

50 S o David overcame the Philistine with a sling and with a stone and smote the Philistine and slew him, but there was no sword in the hand of David.

Така Давид надви филистимеца с прашка и с камък, и удари филистимеца и го уби. Но нямаше меч в ръката на Давида;

51 T herefore David ran and stood upon the Philistine and took his sword and drew it out of its sheath and slew him and cut off his head with it. And when the Philistines saw their giant was dead, they fled.

затова Давид се завтече та застана над филистимеца, и хвана меча му и го изтръгна из ножницата му и като го уби отсече главата му с него. А филистимците, като видяха, че юнакът им умря, побягнаха.

52 A nd the men of Israel and of Judah arose and shouted and pursued the Philistines unto the valley and to the gates of Ekron. And the wounded of the Philistines fell down by the way to Shaaraim, even unto Gath and unto Ekron.

Тогава Израилевите и Юдовите мъже станаха, извикаха и подгониха филистимците до прохода на Гая и до портите на Акарон. И ранените филистимци паднаха из пътя за Саараим до Гет и до Акарон.

53 A nd the sons of Israel returned from chasing after the Philistines, and they spoiled their tents.

А израилтяните, като се върнаха от преследването на филистимците, разграбиха стана им.

54 A nd David took the head of the Philistine and brought it to Jerusalem, but he put his weapons in his tent.

И Давид взе главата на филистимеца та я занесе в Ерусалим, а оръжията му тури в шатъра си.

55 A nd when Saul saw David go forth against the Philistine, he said unto Abner, the captain of the host, Abner, whose son is this youth? And Abner said, As thy soul lives, O king, I cannot tell.

А Саул, когато видя Давида, че излизаше против филистимеца, каза на военачалника Авенира: Авенире, чий син е тоя момък? А Авенир рече: <Заклевам се> в живота на душата ти, царю, не зная.

56 A nd the king said, Enquire whose son the young man is.

И царят каза: Попитай чий син е тоя момък.

57 A nd as David returned from the slaughter of the Philistine, Abner took him and brought him before Saul with the head of the Philistine in his hand.

И като се връщаше Давид от поражението на филистимеца, Авенир го взе та го доведе пред Саула; и главата на филистимеца беше в ръката му.

58 A nd Saul said to him, Whose son art thou, young man? And David answered, I am the son of thy slave Jesse of Bethlehem.

И Саул му рече: Чий син си, младежо? А Давид отговори: Аз съм син на слугата ти витлеемеца Есей.
