1 ¶ My son, attend unto my wisdom, and bow thine ear to my intelligence;

Fiule, ia aminte la înţelepciunea mea, şi pleacă urechea la învăţătura mea,

2 t hat thou may keep council and that thy lips may conserve knowledge.

ca să fii cu chibzuinţă, şi buzele tale să aibă cunoştinţă.

3 F or the lips of the strange woman drop as a honeycomb, and her mouth is smoother than oil,

Căci buzele femeii străine strecoară miere, şi cerul gurii ei este mai lunecos decît untdelemnul;

4 B ut her end is bitter as wormwood, sharp as a twoedged sword.

dar la urmă este amară ca pelinul, ascuţită ca o sabie cu două tăişuri.

5 H er feet go down to death, her steps uphold Sheol,

Picioarele ei pogoară la moarte, paşii ei dau în locuinţa morţilor.

6 l est thou should ponder the path of life, her ways are unstable; thou shalt not know them.

Aşa că ea nu poate găsi calea vieţii, rătăceşte în căile ei, şi nu ştie unde merge.

7 H ear me now therefore, O ye sons, and do not depart from the words of my mouth.

Şi acum, fiilor, ascultaţi-mă, şi nu vă abateţi dela cuvintele gurii mele:

8 R emove thy way far from her, and do not come near the door of her house,

depărtează-te de drumul care duce la ea, şi nu te apropia de uşa casei ei,

9 l est thou give thine honour unto others and thy years unto the cruel,

ca nu cumva să-ţi dai altora vlaga ta, şi unui om fără milă anii tăi;

10 l est strangers be filled with thy wealth, and thy labours be in the house of a stranger,

ca nu cumva nişte străini să se sature de averea ta, şi tu să te trudeşti pentru casa altuia;

11 a nd thou mourn at the last when thy flesh and thy body are consumed

ca nu cumva să gemi, la urmă, cînd carnea şi trupul ţi se vor istovi,

12 a nd say, How have I hated chastening and my heart despised reproof

şi să zici:,, Cum am putut eu să urăsc certarea, şi cum a dispreţuit inima mea mustrarea?

13 a nd have not obeyed the voice of those who chastened me, nor inclined my ear to those that instructed me!

Cum am putut să n'ascult glasul învăţătorilor mei, şi să nu iau aminte la ceice mă învăţau?

14 I have been in almost every kind of evil, in the midst of society and of the congregation.

Cît pe ce să mă nenorocesc de tot în mijlocul poporului şi adunării!``

15 ¶ Drink waters out of thine own cistern and running waters out of thine own well.

Bea apă din fîntîna ta, şi din izvoarele puţului tău.

16 L et thy fountains be dispersed abroad, and rivers of thy waters in the streets.

Ce, vrei să ţi se verse izvoarele afară? Şi să-ţi curgă rîurile pe pieţele de obşte?

17 L et them be only thine own and not for strangers with thee.

Lasă-le să fie numai pentru tine, şi nu pentru străinii de lîngă tine.

18 T hy fountain shall be blessed; and rejoice with the wife of thy youth.

Izvorul tău să fie binecuvîntat, şi bucură-te de nevasta tinereţii tale.

19 L et her be as the loving hind and pleasant roe; let her breasts satisfy thee at all times; and be thou ravished always with her love, without eyes for anyone else.

Cerboaică iubită, căprioară plăcută: fii îmbătat tot timpul de drăgălăşiile ei, fii îndrăgostit necurmat de dragostea ei!

20 A nd why wilt thou, my son, be ravished with a woman belonging to someone else, and embrace the bosom of a stranger?

Şi pentruce, fiule, ai fi îndrăgostit de o străină, şi ai îmbrăţişa sînul unei necunoscute?

21 F or the ways of man are before the eyes of the LORD, and he weighs all his goings.

Căci căile omului sînt lămurite înaintea ochilor Domnului, şi El vede toate cărările lui.

22 H is own iniquities shall take hold of the wicked, and he shall be imprisoned with the cords of his sins.

Cel rău este prins în înseşi nelegiuirile lui, şi este apucat de legăturile păcatului lui.

23 H e shall die because he did not submit to chastening; and due to the greatness of his folly he shall go astray.

El va muri din lipsă de înfrînare, se va poticni din prea multa lui nebunie.
