1 ¶ Why dost thou boast of evil, O strong man? The mercy of God is day by day.

(Către mai marele cîntăreţilor. O cîntare a lui David. Făcută cu prilejul celor spuse de Doeg, Edomitul, lui Saul, cînd zicea:,, David s'a dus în casa lui Ahimelec.``) Pentruce te făleşti cu răutatea ta, asupritorule? Bunătatea lui Dumnezeu ţine în veci.

2 T hy tongue devises wickedness like a sharp razor, working deceitfully.

Limba ta nu născoceşte decît răutate, ca un brici ascuţit, viclean ce eşti!

3 T hou dost love evil more than good; and lying rather than to speak righteousness. Selah.

Tu iubeşti mai degrabă răul decît binele, mai degrabă minciuna decît adevărul. -

4 T hou dost love all devouring words, O thou deceitful tongue.

Tu iubeşti numai cuvinte nimicitoare, limbă înşelătoare!

5 G od shall likewise cast thee down for ever; he shall cut thee off and pluck thee out of thy dwelling place and root thee out of the land of the living. Selah.

De aceea şi Dumnezeu te va doborî pe vecie, te va apuca şi te va ridica din cortul tău, şi te va desrădăcina din pămîntul celor vii. -

6 ¶ The righteous also shall see and fear and shall laugh at him, saying:

Cei fără prihană vor vedea lucrul acesta, se vor teme, şi vor rîde de el, zicînd:

7 B ehold, this is the man that did not make God his strength, but trusted in the abundance of his riches and strengthened himself in his wickedness.

Iată omul, care nu lua ca ocrotitor pe Dumnezeu, ci se încredea în bogăţiile lui cele mari, şi se bizuia pe răutatea lui.``

8 B ut I am like a green olive tree in the house of God; I trust in the eternal mercy of God for ever.

Dar eu sînt în Casa lui Dumnezeu ca un măslin verde, mă încred în bunătatea lui Dumnezeu, în veci de veci.

9 I will praise thee for ever because thou hast done it, and I will wait on thy name, for it is good before thy merciful ones.

Te voi lăuda totdeauna, pentrucă ai lucrat; şi, în faţa copiilor Tăi, voi nădăjdui în Numele Tău, căci este binevoitor.
