1 ¶ And the LORD said unto Samuel, How long wilt thou mourn for Saul, seeing I have rejected him from reigning over Israel? Fill thy horn with oil and go; I will send thee to Jesse of Bethlehem for I have provided me a king among his sons.

Domnul a zis lui Samuel:,, Cînd vei înceta să plîngi pe Saul, pentru că l-am lepădat, ca să nu mai domnească peste Israel? Umple-ţi... cornul cu untdelemn, şi du-te; te voi trimite la Isai, Betleemitul, căci pe unul din fiii lui Mi l-am ales...... ca împărat.``

2 A nd Samuel said, How can I go? If Saul understands it, he will kill me. And the LORD said, Take a heifer with thee and say, I am come to sacrifice to the LORD.

Samuel a zis:,, Cum să mă duc? Saul are să afle, şi mă va ucide.`` Şi Domnul a zis:,, Să iei cu tine un viţel, şi să zici:, Vin să aduc o jertfă Domnului.`

3 A nd call Jesse to the sacrifice, and I will show thee what thou shalt do, and thou shalt anoint unto me the one whom I name unto thee.

Să pofteşti pe Isai la jertfă; Eu îţi voi arăta ce trebuie să faci, şi Îmi vei unge pe acela pe care-ţi voi spune să -l ungi.``

4 A nd Samuel did as the LORD said and came to Bethlehem. And the elders of the town trembled at his coming and said, Comest thou peaceably?

Samuel a făcut ce zisese Domnul, şi s'a dus la Betleem. Bătrînii cetăţii au alergat înspăimîntaţi înaintea lui şi au zis:,, Ce vesteşte venirea ta: ceva bun?``

5 A nd he said, Peaceably; I am come to sacrifice unto the LORD; sanctify yourselves and come with me to the sacrifice. And he sanctified Jesse and his sons and called them to the sacrifice.

El a răspuns:,, Da; vin să aduc o jertfă Domnului. Sfinţiţi-vă, şi veniţi cu mine la jertfă.`` A sfinţit şi pe Isai cu fiii lui, şi i -a pofitit la jertfă.

6 ¶ And it came to pass, when they were come, that he looked on Eliab and said, Peradventure is the LORD’s anointed before him?

Cînd au intrat ei, Samuel, văzînd pe Eliab, şi -a zis:,, Negreşit, unsul Domnului este aici înaintea Lui.``

7 A nd the LORD replied unto Samuel, Do not look on his countenance or on the height of his stature because I have refused him, for it is not as man sees, for man looks on the outward appearance, but the LORD looks on the heart.

Şi Domnul a zis lui Samuel:,, Nu te uita la înfăţişarea şi înălţimea staturii lui, căci l-am lepădat. Domnul nu se uită la ce se uită omul; omul se uită la ceea ce izbeşte ochii, dar Domnul se uită la inimă.``

8 T hen Jesse called Abinadab and made him pass before Samuel. And he said, Neither has the LORD chosen this one.

Isai a chemat pe Abinadab, şi l -a trecut pe dinaintea lui Samuel; şi Samuel a zis:,, Nici pe acesta nu l -a ales Domnul.``

9 T hen Jesse made Shammah to pass by. And he said, Neither has the LORD chosen this one.

Isai a trecut pe Şama; şi Samuel a zis:,, Nici pe acesta nu l -a ales Domnul.``

10 A gain, Jesse made his seven sons pass before Samuel, but Samuel said unto Jesse, The LORD has not chosen these.

Şi aşa a trecut Isai pe cei şapte fii ai lui pe dinaintea lui Samuel; şi Samuel a zis lui Isai:,, Domnul n'a ales pe niciunul din ei.``

11 A nd Samuel said unto Jesse, Are all thy young men here? And he said, There remains yet the youngest, and, behold, he keeps the sheep. And Samuel said unto Jesse, Send for him, for we will not sit down to the table until he comes here.

Apoi Samuel a zis lui Isai:,, Aceştia sînt toţi fiii tăi?``. Şi el a răspuns:,, A mai rămas cel mai tînăr, dar paşte oile.`` Atunci Samuel a zis lui Isai:,, Trimite să -l aducă, fiindcă nu vom şedea la masă pînă nu va veni aici.``

12 A nd he sent and brought him in. Now he was ruddy and of a beautiful countenance and handsome. And the LORD said, Arise, anoint him, for this is he.

Isai a trimes să -l aducă. Şi el era cu păr bălai, cu ochi frumoşi şi faţă frumoasă. Domnul a zis lui Samuel:,, Scoală-te, şi unge -l, căci el este!``

13 T hen Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him from among his brethren; and the Spirit of the LORD prospered David from that day forward. So Samuel rose up and went to Ramah.

Samuel a luat cornul cu untdelemn, şi l -a uns în mijlocul fraţilor lui. Duhul Domnului a venit peste David, începînd din ziua aceea şi în cele următoare. Samuel s'a sculat, şi s'a dus la Rama.

14 ¶ But the Spirit of the LORD departed from Saul, and an evil spirit from the LORD troubled him.

Duhul Domnului S'a depărtat dela Saul; şi a fost muncit de un duh rău care venea dela Domnul.

15 A nd Saul’s slaves said unto him, Behold now, an evil spirit from God troubles thee.

Slujitorii lui Saul i-au zis:,, Iată că un duh rău dela Dumnezeu te munceşte.

16 L et our lord now command thy slaves, which are before thee, to seek out a man who is a cunning player on a harp, and it shall come to pass, when the evil spirit from God is upon thee, that he shall play with his hand and thou shalt have relief.

Poruncească numai domnul nostru! Robii tăi sînt înaintea ta. Ei vor căuta un om care să ştie să cînte cu arfa; şi, cînd duhul rău trimes de Dumnezeu, va fi peste tine, el va cînta cu mîna, şi vei fi uşurat.``

17 A nd Saul said unto his slaves, Provide me now a man that can play well and bring him to me.

Saul a răspuns slujitorilor săi:,, Găsiţi-mi dar un om care să cînte bine, şi aduceţi -l la mine.``

18 T hen one of the servants answered and said, Behold, I have seen a son of Jesse of Bethlehem, that is cunning in playing and a mighty valiant man and a man of war and prudent in speech and handsome, and the LORD is with him.

Unul din slujitori a luat cuvîntul, şi a zis:,, Iată, am văzut pe un fiu al lui Isai, Betleemitul, care ştie să cînte; el este şi un om tare şi voinic, un războinic, vorbeşte bine, este frumos la chip, şi Domnul este cu el.``

19 T herefore Saul sent messengers unto Jesse and said, Send me David, thy son, who is with the sheep.

Saul a trimes nişte oameni la Isai, să -i spună:,, Trimete-mi pe fiul tău David, care este cu oile.``

20 A nd Jesse took an ass laden with bread and a bottle of wine and a kid and sent them by David, his son, unto Saul.

Isai a luat un măgar, l -a încărcat cu pîne, cu un burduf cu vin şi cu un ied, şi a trimes lui Saul aceste lucruri, prin fiul său David.

21 A nd David came to Saul and stood before him; and he loved him greatly, and he became his armourbearer.

David a ajuns la Saul, şi s'a înfăţişat înaintea lui; i -a plăcut mult lui Saul, şi a fost pus să -i poarte armele.

22 A nd Saul sent to Jesse, saying, Let David, I pray thee, stand before me, for he has found favour in my sight.

Saul a trimes vorbă lui Isai, zicînd:,, Te rog să laşi pe David în slujba mea, căci a căpătat trecere înaintea mea.``

23 A nd it came to pass, when the evil spirit from God was upon Saul, that David took a harp and played with his hand; so Saul was refreshed and was better, and the evil spirit departed from him.

Şi cînd duhul trimes de Dumnezeu venea peste Saul, David lua arfa şi cînta cu mîna lui; Saul răsufla atunci mai uşor, se simţea uşurat, şi duhul cel rău pleca dela el.
