1 ¶ These are the words of the covenant, which the LORD commanded Moses to make with the sons of Israel in the land of Moab, besides the covenant which he made with them in Horeb.

Iată cuvintele legămîntului pe care a poruncit lui Moise Domnul să -l încheie cu copiii lui Israel în ţara Moabului, afară de legămîntul pe care -l încheiase cu ei la Horeb.

2 M oses, therefore, called unto all Israel and said unto them, Ye have seen all that the LORD did before your eyes in the land of Egypt unto Pharaoh and unto all his slaves and unto all his land,

Moise a chemat pe tot Israelul şi le -a zis:,, Aţi văzut tot ce a făcut Domnul subt ochii voştri, în ţara Egiptului, lui Faraon, tuturor supuşilor lui, şi întregei lui ţări:

3 t he great trials which thine eyes have seen, the signs and those great miracles.

marile încercări pe cari ţi le-au văzut ochii, minunile şi semnele acelea mari

4 Y et the LORD has not given you a heart to perceive and eyes to see and ears to hear until today.

Dar Domnul nu v'a dat minte să pricepeţi, nici ochi să vedeţi, nici urechi să auziţi, pînă în ziua de azi.

5 A nd I have brought you forty years through the wilderness; your clothes are not waxed old upon you, and neither has thy shoe waxed old upon thy foot.

Totuş El zice:,, Eu v'am călăuzit patruzeci de ani în pustie; hainele nu vi s-au învechit pe voi, şi încălţămintea nu vi s'a învechit în picior:

6 Y e have never eaten bread, neither have ye drunk wine or strong drink that ye might know that I am the LORD your God.

pîne n'aţi mîncat, şi n'aţi băut nici vin, nici băutură tare, ca să cunoaşteţi că Eu sînt Domnul, Dumnezeul vostru.``

7 A nd when ye came unto this place, Sihon, the king of Heshbon, and Og, the king of Bashan, came out against us unto battle, and we smote them;

Aţi ajuns în locul acesta; Sihon, împăratul Hesbonului, şi Og, împăratul Basanului, ne-au ieşit înainte, ca să ne bată, şi i-am bătut.

8 a nd we took their land and gave it for an inheritance unto the Reubenites and unto the Gadites and to the half tribe of Manasseh.

Le-am luat ţara, şi am dat -o în stăpînire Rubeniţilor, Gadiţilor şi la jumătate din seminţia Manasiţilor.

9 T hou shalt keep, therefore, the words of this covenant and do them that ye may understand all that ye do.

Să păziţi dar cuvintele legămîntului acestuia, şi să le împliniţi, ca să izbutiţi în tot ce veţi face.

10 ¶ Ye stand today, all of you, before the LORD your God, your princes of your tribes, your elders, and your officers, with all the men of Israel,

Astăzi staţi înaintea Domnului, Dumnezeului vostru, voi toţi, căpeteniile seminţiilor voastre, bătrînii voştri, mai marii oştirii voastre, toţi bărbaţii din Israel,

11 y our little ones, your wives, and thy strangers that dwell within thy camp, from the hewer of thy wood unto the drawer of thy water,

copiii voştri, nevestele voastre, şi străinul care este în mijlocul taberii tale, dela cel ce-ţi taie lemne, pînă la cel ce-ţi scoate apă.

12 t hat thou may enter into covenant with the LORD thy God and into his oath, which the LORD thy God makes with thee today,

Stai ca să intri în legămînt cu Domnul, Dumnezeul tău, în legămîntul acesta încheiat cu jurămînt, şi pe care Domnul, Dumnezeul tău, îl încheie cu tine în ziua aceasta,

13 t o confirm thee today as his people and that he may be unto thee as God, as he has said unto thee, and as he has sworn unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.

ca să te facă azi poporul Lui şi El să fie Dumnezeul tău, cum ţi -a spus, şi cum a jurat părinţilor tăi, Avraam, Isaac şi Iacov.

14 N either with you only do I make this covenant and this oath,

Nu numai cu voi închei legămîntul acesta încheiat cu jurămînt,

15 b ut with those that stand here with us today before the LORD our God and also with those that are not here with us today.

ci atît cu cei ce sînt aici printre noi, de faţă în ziua aceasta înaintea Domnului, Dumnezeului nostru, cît şi cu cei ce nu sînt aici printre noi în ziua aceasta.

16 F or ye know how we have dwelt in the land of Egypt, and how we came through the Gentiles which ye passed by;

Ştiţi cum am locuit în ţara Egiptului şi cum am trecut prin mijlocul neamurilor pe cari le-aţi străbătut.

17 a nd ye have seen their abominations and their idols, wood and stone, silver and gold, which they have among them.

Aţi văzut urîciunile şi idolii lor, lemnul şi piatra, argintul şi aurul, cari erau la ele.

18 P eradventure there shall be among you man, or woman, or family, or tribe, whose heart turns away today from the LORD our God to go and serve the gods of those Gentiles; peradventure there shall be among you a root that bears poison and wormwood;

Să nu fie între voi nici bărbat, nici femeie, nici familie, nici seminţie, a căror inimă să se abată azi de la Domnul, Dumnezeul nostru, ca să se ducă să slujească dumnezeilor neamurilor acelora. Să nu fie printre voi nici o rădăcină care să aducă otravă şi pelin.

19 a nd it shall be, when that one hears the words of this curse, that he blesses himself in his heart, saying, I shall have peace, though I walk in the imagination of my heart, to add drunkenness to thirst.

Nimeni, după ce a auzit cuvintele legămîntului acestuia încheiat cu jurămînt, să nu se laude în inima lui şi să zică:,, Voi avea pacea, chiar dacă aş urma după pornirile inimii mele, şi chiar dacă aş adăuga beţia la sete.``

20 T he LORD will not forgive him, but then the anger of the LORD and his jealousy shall smoke against that man, and all the curses that are written in this book shall lie upon him, and the LORD shall blot out his name from under heaven.

Pe acela Domnul nu -l va ierta. Ci atunci mînia şi gelozia Domnului se vor aprinde împotriva omului aceluia, toate blestemurile scrise în cartea aceasta vor veni peste el, şi Domnul îi va şterge numele de subt ceruri.

21 A nd the LORD shall separate him unto evil out of all the tribes of Israel, according to all the curses of the covenant that are written in this book of the law.

Domnul îl va despărţi, spre peirea lui, din toate seminţiile lui Israel, şi -i va face după toate blestemurile legămîntului scris în această carte a legii.

22 S o that the generation to come of your children that shall rise up after you, and the stranger that shall come from a far land shall say, when they see the plagues of that land, and the sicknesses which the LORD has laid upon it,

Vîrsta de oameni care va veni, copiii voştri cari se vor naşte după voi şi străinul care va veni dintr'o ţară depărtată, -la vederea urgiilor şi bolilor cu cari va lovi Domnul ţara aceasta,

23 a nd that the whole land thereof is brimstone and salt and burning, that it is not sown, nor shall it produce anything, nor shall any grass grow therein, like in the overthrow of Sodom and Gomorrah, Admah, and Zeboim, which the LORD overthrew in his anger and in his wrath;

la vederea pucioasei, sării, şi arderii întregului ţinut, unde nu va fi nici sămînţă, nici rod, nici o iarbă care să crească, întocmai ca la surparea Sodomei, Gomorei, Admei şi Ţeboimului, pe cari le -a nimicit Domnul, în mînia şi urgia Lui, -

24 e ven all Gentiles shall say, Why has the LORD done thus unto this land? What means the heat of this great anger?

toate neamurile vor zice:,, Pentruce a făcut Domnul astfel ţării acesteia? Pentruce această mînie aprinsă, această mare urgie?``

25 T hen men shall say, Because they have forsaken the covenant of the LORD God of their fathers, which he made with them when he brought them forth out of the land of Egypt;

Şi li se va răspunde:,, Pentru că au părăsit legămîntul încheiat cu ei de Domnul, Dumnezeul părinţilor lor, cînd i -a scos din ţara Egiptului;

26 f or they went and served other gods and worshipped them, gods whom they knew not and who had not given anything unto them.

pentru că s'au dus să slujească altor dumnezei şi să se închine înaintea lor, dumnezei pe cari ei nu -i cunoşteau şi pe cari nu li -i dăduse Domnul.

27 T herefore, the anger of the LORD was kindled against this land to bring upon it all the curses that are written in this book.

De aceea S'a aprins Domnul de mînie împotriva acestei ţări, şi a adus peste ea toate blestemurile scrise în cartea aceasta.

28 A nd the LORD rooted them out of their land in anger and in wrath and in great indignation and cast them into another land, as it is today.

Domnul i -a smuls din ţara lor cu mînie, cu urgie, cu o mare iuţime, şi i -a aruncat într'o altă ţară, cum se vede azi.``

29 T he hidden things of the LORD our God are uncovered unto us and to our children for ever, that we may do all the words of this law.

Lucrurile ascunse sînt ale Domnului, Dumnezeului nostru, iar lucrurile descoperite sînt ale noastre şi ale copiilor noştri, pe vecie, ca să împlinim toate cuvintele legii acesteia.
