1 ¶ Elihu proceeded in his reasoning and said,

Elihu a luat din nou cuvîntul, şi a zis:

2 D ost thou think this to be right, when thou didst say, I am more righteous than God?

închipuieşti că ai dreptate, şi crezi că te îndreptăţeşti înaintea lui Dumnezeu,

3 F or thou didst say, What advantage will it be unto thee? And, What profit shall I have, if I am cleansed from my sin?

cînd zici:, La ce-mi foloseşte, ce cîştig am că nu păcătuiesc?`

4 I will answer thee and thy companions with thee.

Îţi voi răspunde şi la aceasta, ţie, şi prietenilor tăi totodată.

5 L ook unto the heavens and see; and behold the heavens which are higher than thou.

Uită-te spre ceruri, şi priveşte! Vezi norii, cît de sus sînt faţă de tine?

6 I f thou dost sin, what hast thou done against him? Or if thy rebellion is multiplied, what doest thou unto him?

Dacă păcătuieşti, ce rău Îi faci Lui? Şi cînd păcatele ţi se înmulţesc, ce -I faci Lui?

7 I f thou art righteous, what shalt thou give him? Or what shall he receive of thine hand?

Dacă eşti drept, ce -I dai Lui? Ce primeşte El din mîna ta?

8 T hy wickedness shall hurt a man as thou art; and thy righteousness shall profit the son of man.

Răutatea ta nu poate vătăma decît semenului tău, dreptatea ta nu foloseşte decît fiului omului.

9 ¶ By reason of the great violence they shall call out; they cry out because of the strength of the many.

Oamenii strigă împotriva mulţimii apăsătorilor, se plîng de silnicia multora;

10 B ut no one shall say, Where is God my maker, who gives songs in the night;

dar niciunul nu zice:, Unde este Dumnezeu, Făcătorul meu, care ne insuflă cîntări de veselie noaptea,

11 w ho teaches us more than the beasts of the earth and makes us wiser than the fowls of heaven?

care ne învaţă mai mult decît pe dobitoacele pămîntului, şi ne dă mai multă pricepere decît păsărilor cerului?`

12 T here they shall cry, but he shall give no answer because of the pride of those that are evil.

Să tot strige ei atunci, căci Dumnezeu nu răspunde, din pricina mîndriei celor răi.

13 S urely God will not hear vanity, neither will the Almighty look upon it.

Degeaba strigă, căci Dumnezeu n'ascultă, Cel Atotputernic nu ia aminte.

14 ¶ For much that thou dost say, he will not look upon it, submit to judgment before him, and trust thou in him.

Măcarcă zici că nu -L vezi, totuş pricina ta este înaintea Lui: aşteaptă -L!

15 B ut now, because he has not visited in wrath; nor is it known in great extremity;

Dar, pentru că mînia Lui nu pedepseşte încă, nu înseamnă că puţin Îi pasă de nelegiuire.

16 t herefore, Job opened his mouth in vain and multiplied words without knowledge.

Aşa că Iov îşi deschide gura degeaba, şi spune o mulţime de vorbe fără rost.``
