1 ¶ Aleph How does the city sit solitary, that was full of people! The great one among the nations is become as a widow; the princess of provinces is become tributary.

Vai! Cum stă părăsită acum, cetatea aceasta atît de plină de popor altă dată! A rămas ca o văduvă! Ea, care altă dată era mare între neamuri, fruntaşă printre ţări, a ajus roabă astăzi!

2 B eth She weeps sore in the night, and her tears are on her cheeks; among all her lovers she has none to comfort her; all her friends have dealt treacherously with her; they are become her enemies.

Plînge amarnic noaptea, şi -i curg lacrămi pe obraji. Niciunul din toţi cei ce o iubeau n'o mîngîie; toţi prietenii ei au părăsit -o, şi i s'au făcut vrăjmaşi.

3 G imel Judah is gone into captivity because of the affliction and because of the greatness of the servitude; she dwells among the Gentiles; she finds no rest; all her persecutors overtook her between the straits.

Iuda a plecat în pribegie, din pricina apăsării şi muncilor grele. Locuieşte în mijlocul neamurilor, şi nu găseşte odihnă! Toţi prigonitorii lui l-au ajuns tocmai cînd îi era mai mare strîmtorarea.

4 D aleth The streets of Zion mourn because there are none to come to the solemnities; all her gates are destroyed; her priests sigh, her virgins are afflicted, and she is in bitterness.

Drumurile Sionului sînt triste, căci nimeni nu se mai duce la sărbători, toate porţile lui sînt pustii, preoţii lui oftează; fecioarele lui sînt mîhnite, şi el însuş este plin de amărăciune.

5 H e Her enemies have been made the head; those who hated her have been prospered; for the LORD has afflicted her for the multitude of her rebellions; her children are gone into captivity before the enemy.

Asupritorii lui sar biruitori, vrăşmaşii lui sînt mulţămiţi. Căci Domnul l -a smerit, din pricina mulţimii păcatelor lui; copiii lui au mers în robie înaintea asupritorului.

6 V au And from the daughter of Zion all her beauty is departed; her princes are become like harts that find no pasture, and they are gone without strength before the pursuer.

S'a dus dela fiica Sionului toată podoaba ei. Căpeteniile ei au ajuns ca nişte cerbi cari nu găsesc păşune, şi merg fără putere înaintea celui ce -i goneşte.

7 Z ain Jerusalem remembered the days of her affliction and of her rebellions and of all her desirable things that she had in the times of old when her people fell into the hand of the enemy, and no one helped her; the enemies saw her and mocked at her days of rest.

În zilele necazului şi ticăloşiei lui, Ierusalimul îşi aduce aminte de toate bunătăţile de cari a avut parte din zilele străbune; cînd a căzut poporul lui în mîna asupritorului, nimeni nu i -a venit în ajutor, iar vrăjmaşii se uitau la el şi rîdeau de prăbuşirea lui.

8 C heth Jerusalem has grievously sinned; therefore she is removed; all that honoured her despise her because they have seen her nakedness; yea, she sighs and is turned backward.

Greu de păcătuit Ierusalimul! De aceea a ajuns de scîrbă. Toţi cei ce -l preţuiau îl dispreţuiesc acum, văzîndu -i goliciunea, şi el însuş se întoarce în altă parte şi oftează.

9 T eth Her filthiness is in her skirts; she did not remember her latter end; therefore she came down surprisingly; she has no comforter. O LORD, behold my affliction, for the enemy has magnified himself.

Necurăţia sta lipită pe poala hainei lui, şi nu se gîndea la sfîrşitul său. A căzut greu de tot. Nimeni nu -l mîngîie. -,, Vezi-mi ticăloşia, Doamne, căci iată ce semeţ este vrăjmaşul!`` -

10 J od The enemy has spread out his hand upon all her precious things, and she saw the Gentiles enter into her sanctuary, whom thou didst command that they should not enter into thy congregation.

Asupritorul a întins mîna la tot ce avea el mai scump; ba încă a văzut cum, în Locaşul lui cel sfînt, au intrat neamurile cărora Tu le poruncisei să nu intre în adunarea Ta!

11 C aph All her people sought their bread with sadness; they have given all their precious things for food to maintain life; see, O LORD, and consider, for I am become vile.

Tot poporul lui caută pîne suspinînd; şi-au dat lucrurile scumpe pe hrană, numai ca să-şi ţină viaţa.,, Uită-Te, Doamne, şi priveşte cît de înjosit sînt!``

12 ¶ Lamed Is it nothing to you, all ye that pass by? behold, and see if there is any sorrow like unto my sorrow, which is come unto me because the LORD has afflicted me in the day of his fierce anger.

O! voi, cari treceţi pe lîngă mine, priviţi şi vedeţi dacă este vre o durere ca durerea mea, ca durerea cu care m'a lovit Domnul în ziua mîniei Lui aprinse!

13 M em From upon high he has sent fire into my bones, and it prevails against them; he has spread a net for my feet; he has turned me back; he has made me desolate and always with pain.

Mi -a asvîrlit de sus în oase un foc care le arde; mi -a întins un laţ supt picioare, şi m'a dat înapoi. M'a lovit cu pustiire şi o lîncezeală de toate zilele!

14 N un The yoke of my rebellions is bound in his hand; they are wreathed and come up upon my neck; he has made my strength to fall; the Lord has delivered me into their hands, from whom I am not able to rise up.

Mîna Lui a legat jugul nelegiuirilor mele, cari stau împletite şi legate de gîtul meu. Mi -a frînt puterea. Domnul m'a dat în mînile acelora, cărora nu pot să le stau împotrivă.

15 S amech The Lord has trodden under foot all my mighty men in the midst of me; he has called a company against me to crush my young men; the Lord has trodden the virgin daughter of Judah as in a winepress.

Domnul a trîntit la pămînt pe toţi vitejii din mijlocul meu; a strîns o oştire împotriva mea, ca să-mi prăpădească tineretul; ca în teasc a călcat Domnul pe fecioara, fiica lui Iuda.

16 A in For these things I weep; my eyes, my eyes stream with water because the comforter that gives rest unto my soul has left me; my sons are desolate because the enemy prevailed.

De aceea plîng, îmi varsă lacrămi ochii, căci s'a depărtat dela mine Cel ce trebuia să mă mîngîie, Cel ce trebuia să-mi învioreze viaţa; fiii mei sînt zdrobiţi, căci vrăjmaşul a biruit. -

17 P e Zion spread forth her hands and has no comforter; the LORD gave a commandment against Jacob that his enemies should besiege him; Jerusalem was an abomination in the midst of them.

Sionul întinde mînile rugător, şi nimeni nu -l mîngîie. Domnul a trimes împotriva lui Iacov dejur împrejur vrăjmaşi; Ierusalimul a ajuns de batjocură în mijlocul lor. -

18 T zaddi The LORD is righteous, for I have rebelled against his mouth; hear now, all the peoples and see my sorrow; my virgins and my young men are gone into captivity.

Domnul este drept, căci m'am răzvrătit împotriva poruncilor Lui. Ascultaţi, toate popoarele, şi vedeţi-mi durerea! Fecioarele şi tinerii mei s'au dus în robie.

19 K oph I called unto my lovers, but they have deceived me; my priests and my elders in the city perished seeking food to maintain their lives.

Mi-am chemat prietenii, dar m'au înşelat, preoţii şi bătrînii mei au murit în cetate, căutînd hrană, ca să-şi ţină viaţa.``

20 R esh Look, O LORD; for I am in distress; my bowels are troubled; my heart is turned within me; for I have grievously rebelled; abroad the sword bereaves; at home there is as death.

Doamne, uită-Te la necazul meu. Lăuntrul meu fierbe, mi s'a întors inima în mine, căci am fost neascultător. Afară sabia m'a lăsat fără copii, în casă moartea.

21 S chin They have heard that I sigh; and there is no comforter for me; all my enemies have heard of my trouble; they are glad that thou hast done it. Thou hast brought the day that thou hast spoken of, but they shall be like unto me.

M'au auzit suspinînd, dar nimeni nu m'a mîngîiat. Toţi vrăjmaşii mei, cînd au aflat de nenorocirea mea, s'au bucurat că Tu ai adus -o; dar vei aduce, vei vesti ziua cînd şi ei vor fi ca mine.

22 T au Let all their wickedness come before thee; and do unto them as thou hast done unto me for all my rebellions; for my sighs are many, and my heart is filled with pain.

Adu toată răutatea lor înaintea Ta, şi fă-le cum mi-ai făcut mie, pentru toate fărădelegile mele! Căci suspinurile mele sînt multe, şi inima îmi este bolnavă.``
