1 A t that time, Herod the tetrarch heard the report concerning Jesus,

En aquel tiempo Herodes el tetrarca oyó la fama de Jesús,

2 a nd said to his servants, “This is John the Baptizer. He is risen from the dead. That is why these powers work in him.”

y dijo a sus criados: Este es Juan el Bautista; ha resucitado de los muertos, y por eso actúan en él estos poderes.

3 F or Herod had laid hold of John, and bound him, and put him in prison for the sake of Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife.

Porque Herodes había prendido a Juan, y le había encadenado y metido en la cárcel, por causa de Herodías, mujer de Felipe su hermano;

4 F or John said to him, “It is not lawful for you to have her.”

porque Juan le decía: No te es lícito tenerla.

5 W hen he would have put him to death, he feared the multitude, because they counted him as a prophet.

Y Herodes quería matarle, pero temía al pueblo; porque tenían a Juan por profeta.

6 B ut when Herod’s birthday came, the daughter of Herodias danced among them and pleased Herod.

Pero cuando se celebraba el cumpleaños de Herodes, la hija de Herodías danzó en medio, y agradó a Herodes,

7 W hereupon he promised with an oath to give her whatever she should ask.

por lo cual éste le prometió con juramento darle todo lo que pidiese.

8 S he, being prompted by her mother, said, “Give me here on a platter the head of John the Baptizer.”

Ella, instruida primero por su madre, dijo: Dame aquí en un plato la cabeza de Juan el Bautista.

9 T he king was grieved, but for the sake of his oaths, and of those who sat at the table with him, he commanded it to be given,

Entonces el rey se entristeció; pero a causa del juramento, y de los que estaban con él a la mesa, mandó que se la diesen,

10 a nd he sent and beheaded John in the prison.

y ordenó decapitar a Juan en la cárcel.

11 H is head was brought on a platter, and given to the young lady: and she brought it to her mother.

Y fue traída su cabeza en un plato, y dada a la muchacha; y ella la presentó a su madre.

12 H is disciples came, and took the body, and buried it; and they went and told Jesus.

Entonces llegaron sus discípulos, y tomaron el cuerpo y lo enterraron; y fueron y dieron las nuevas a Jesús. Alimentación de los cinco mil (Mr. 6. 30-44; Lc. 9. 10-17; Jn. 6. 1-14)

13 N ow when Jesus heard this, he withdrew from there in a boat, to a deserted place apart. When the multitudes heard it, they followed him on foot from the cities.

Oyéndolo Jesús, se apartó de allí en una barca a un lugar desierto y apartado; y cuando la gente lo oyó, le siguió a pie desde las ciudades.

14 J esus went out, and he saw a great multitude. He had compassion on them, and healed their sick.

Y saliendo Jesús, vio una gran multitud, y tuvo compasión de ellos, y sanó a los que de ellos estaban enfermos.

15 W hen evening had come, his disciples came to him, saying, “This place is deserted, and the hour is already late. Send the multitudes away, that they may go into the villages, and buy themselves food.”

Cuando anochecía, se acercaron a él sus discípulos, diciendo: El lugar es desierto, y la hora ya pasada; despide a la multitud, para que vayan por las aldeas y compren de comer.

16 B ut Jesus said to them, “They don’t need to go away. You give them something to eat.”

Jesús les dijo: No tienen necesidad de irse; dadles vosotros de comer.

17 T hey told him, “We only have here five loaves and two fish.”

Y ellos dijeron: No tenemos aquí sino cinco panes y dos peces.

18 H e said, “Bring them here to me.”

El les dijo: Traédmelos acá.

19 H e commanded the multitudes to sit down on the grass; and he took the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up to heaven, he blessed, broke and gave the loaves to the disciples, and the disciples gave to the multitudes.

Entonces mandó a la gente recostarse sobre la hierba; y tomando los cinco panes y los dos peces, y levantando los ojos al cielo, bendijo, y partió y dio los panes a los discípulos, y los discípulos a la multitud.

20 T hey all ate, and were filled. They took up twelve baskets full of that which remained left over from the broken pieces.

Y comieron todos, y se saciaron; y recogieron lo que sobró de los pedazos, doce cestas llenas.

21 T hose who ate were about five thousand men, besides women and children.

Y los que comieron fueron como cinco mil hombres, sin contar las mujeres y los niños. Jesús anda sobre el mar (Mr. 6. 45-52; Jn. 6. 15-21)

22 I mmediately Jesus made the disciples get into the boat, and to go ahead of him to the other side, while he sent the multitudes away.

En seguida Jesús hizo a sus discípulos entrar en la barca e ir delante de él a la otra ribera, entre tanto que él despedía a la multitud.

23 A fter he had sent the multitudes away, he went up into the mountain by himself to pray. When evening had come, he was there alone.

Despedida la multitud, subió al monte a orar aparte; y cuando llegó la noche, estaba allí solo.

24 B ut the boat was now in the middle of the sea, distressed by the waves, for the wind was contrary.

Y ya la barca estaba en medio del mar, azotada por las olas; porque el viento era contrario.

25 I n the fourth watch of the night, Jesus came to them, walking on the sea.

Mas a la cuarta vigilia de la noche, Jesús vino a ellos andando sobre el mar.

26 W hen the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, “It’s a ghost!” and they cried out for fear.

Y los discípulos, viéndole andar sobre el mar, se turbaron, diciendo:!! Un fantasma! Y dieron voces de miedo.

27 B ut immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying “Cheer up! It is I! Don’t be afraid.”

Pero en seguida Jesús les habló, diciendo:!! Tened ánimo; yo soy, no temáis!

28 P eter answered him and said, “Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the waters.”

Entonces le respondió Pedro, y dijo: Señor, si eres tú, manda que yo vaya a ti sobre las aguas.

29 H e said, “Come!” Peter stepped down from the boat, and walked on the waters to come to Jesus.

Y él dijo: Ven. Y descendiendo Pedro de la barca, andaba sobre las aguas para ir a Jesús.

30 B ut when he saw that the wind was strong, he was afraid, and beginning to sink, he cried out, saying, “Lord, save me!”

Pero al ver el fuerte viento, tuvo miedo; y comenzando a hundirse, dio voces, diciendo:!! Señor, sálvame!

31 I mmediately Jesus stretched out his hand, took hold of him, and said to him, “You of little faith, why did you doubt?”

Al momento Jesús, extendiendo la mano, asió de él, y le dijo:!! Hombre de poca fe! ¿Por qué dudaste?

32 W hen they got up into the boat, the wind ceased.

Y cuando ellos subieron en la barca, se calmó el viento.

33 T hose who were in the boat came and worshiped him, saying, “You are truly the Son of God!”

Entonces los que estaban en la barca vinieron y le adoraron, diciendo: Verdaderamente eres Hijo de Dios. Jesús sana a los enfermos en Genesaret (Mr. 6. 53-56)

34 W hen they had crossed over, they came to the land of Gennesaret.

Y terminada la travesía, vinieron a tierra de Genesaret.

35 W hen the people of that place recognized him, they sent into all that surrounding region, and brought to him all who were sick,

Cuando le conocieron los hombres de aquel lugar, enviaron noticia por toda aquella tierra alrededor, y trajeron a él todos los enfermos;

36 a nd they begged him that they might just touch the fringe of his garment. As many as touched it were made whole.

y le rogaban que les dejase tocar solamente el borde de su manto; y todos los que lo tocaron, quedaron sanos.
