1 T his is now, beloved, the second letter that I have written to you; and in both of them I stir up your sincere mind by reminding you;

Amados, esta es la segunda carta que os escribo, y en ambas despierto con exhortación vuestro limpio entendimiento,

2 t hat you should remember the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and the commandments of us, the apostles of the Lord and Savior:

para que tengáis memoria de las palabras que antes han sido dichas por los santos profetas, y del mandamiento del Señor y Salvador dado por vuestros apóstoles;

3 k nowing this first, that in the last days mockers will come, walking after their own lusts,

sabiendo primero esto, que en los postreros días vendrán burladores, andando según sus propias concupiscencias,

4 a nd saying, “Where is the promise of his coming? For, from the day that the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.”

y diciendo: ¿Dónde está la promesa de su advenimiento? Porque desde el día en que los padres durmieron, todas las cosas permanecen así como desde el principio de la creación.

5 F or this they willfully forget, that there were heavens from of old, and an earth formed out of water and amid water, by the word of God;

Estos ignoran voluntariamente, que en el tiempo antiguo fueron hechos por la palabra de Dios los cielos, y también la tierra, que proviene del agua y por el agua subsiste,

6 b y which means the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished.

por lo cual el mundo de entonces pereció anegado en agua;

7 B ut the heavens that now are, and the earth, by the same word have been stored up for fire, being reserved against the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men.

pero los cielos y la tierra que existen ahora, están reservados por la misma palabra, guardados para el fuego en el día del juicio y de la perdición de los hombres impíos.

8 B ut don’t forget this one thing, beloved, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.

Mas, oh amados, no ignoréis esto: que para con el Señor un día es como mil años, y mil años como un día.

9 T he Lord is not slow concerning his promise, as some count slowness; but is patient with us, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

El Señor no retarda su promesa, según algunos la tienen por tardanza, sino que es paciente para con nosotros, no queriendo que ninguno perezca, sino que todos procedan al arrepentimiento.

10 B ut the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will be dissolved with fervent heat, and the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up.

Pero el día del Señor vendrá como ladrón en la noche; en el cual los cielos pasarán con grande estruendo, y los elementos ardiendo serán deshechos, y la tierra y las obras que en ella hay serán quemadas.

11 T herefore since all these things will be destroyed like this, what kind of people ought you to be in holy living and godliness,

Puesto que todas estas cosas han de ser deshechas,!! cómo no debéis vosotros andar en santa y piadosa manera de vivir,

12 l ooking for and earnestly desiring the coming of the day of God, which will cause the burning heavens to be dissolved, and the elements will melt with fervent heat?

esperando y apresurándoos para la venida del día de Dios, en el cual los cielos, encendiéndose, serán deshechos, y los elementos, siendo quemados, se fundirán!

13 B ut, according to his promise, we look for new heavens and a new earth, in which righteousness dwells.

Pero nosotros esperamos, según sus promesas, cielos nuevos y tierra nueva, en los cuales mora la justicia.

14 T herefore, beloved, seeing that you look for these things, be diligent to be found in peace, without defect and blameless in his sight.

Por lo cual, oh amados, estando en espera de estas cosas, procurad con diligencia ser hallados por él sin mancha e irreprensibles, en paz.

15 R egard the patience of our Lord as salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also, according to the wisdom given to him, wrote to you;

Y tened entendido que la paciencia de nuestro Señor es para salvación; como también nuestro amado hermano Pablo, según la sabiduría que le ha sido dada, os ha escrito,

16 a s also in all of his letters, speaking in them of these things. In those, there are some things that are hard to understand, which the ignorant and unsettled twist, as they also do to the other Scriptures, to their own destruction.

casi en todas sus epístolas, hablando en ellas de estas cosas; entre las cuales hay algunas difíciles de entender, las cuales los indoctos e inconstantes tuercen, como también las otras Escrituras, para su propia perdición.

17 Y ou therefore, beloved, knowing these things beforehand, beware, lest being carried away with the error of the wicked, you fall from your own steadfastness.

Así que vosotros, oh amados, sabiéndolo de antemano, guardaos, no sea que arrastrados por el error de los inicuos, caigáis de vuestra firmeza.

18 B ut grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and forever. Amen.

Antes bien, creced en la gracia y el conocimiento de nuestro Señor y Salvador Jesucristo. A él sea gloria ahora y hasta el día de la eternidad. Amén.
