1 N ow when Adoni-Zedek king of Jerusalem heard how Joshua had taken Ai. and had utterly destroyed it; as he had done to Jericho and her king, so he had done to Ai and her king; and how the inhabitants of Gibeon had made peace with Israel, and were among them.

Cuando Adonisedec rey de Jerusalén oyó que Josué había tomado a Hai, y que la había asolado (como había hecho a Jericó y a su rey, así hizo a Hai y a su rey), y que los moradores de Gabaón habían hecho paz con los israelitas, y que estaban entre ellos,

2 T hey were very afraid, because Gibeon was a great city, as one of the royal cities, and because it was greater than Ai, and all its men were mighty.

tuvo gran temor; porque Gabaón era una gran ciudad, como una de las ciudades reales, y mayor que Hai, y todos sus hombres eran fuertes.

3 T herefore Adoni-Zedek king of Jerusalem sent to Hoham king of Hebron, Piram king of Jarmuth, Japhia king of Lachish, and Debir king of Eglon, saying,

Por lo cual Adonisedec rey de Jerusalén envió a Hoham rey de Hebrón, a Piream rey de Jarmut, a Jafía rey de Laquis y a Debir rey de Eglón, diciendo:

4 “ Come up to me and help me. Let us strike Gibeon; for they have made peace with Joshua and with the children of Israel.”

Subid a mí y ayudadme, y combatamos a Gabaón; porque ha hecho paz con Josué y con los hijos de Israel.

5 T herefore the five kings of the Amorites, the king of Jerusalem, the king of Hebron, the king of Jarmuth, the king of Lachish, and the king of Eglon, gathered themselves together and went up, they and all their armies, and encamped against Gibeon, and made war against it.

Y cinco reyes de los amorreos, el rey de Jerusalén, el rey de Hebrón, el rey de Jarmut, el rey de Laquis y el rey de Eglón, se juntaron y subieron, ellos con todos sus ejércitos, y acamparon cerca de Gabaón, y pelearon contra ella.

6 T he men of Gibeon sent to Joshua at the camp at Gilgal, saying, “Don’t abandon your servants! Come up to us quickly and save us! Help us; for all the kings of the Amorites that dwell in the hill country have gathered together against us.”

Entonces los moradores de Gabaón enviaron a decir a Josué al campamento en Gilgal: No niegues ayuda a tus siervos; sube prontamente a nosotros para defendernos y ayudarnos; porque todos los reyes de los amorreos que habitan en las montañas se han unido contra nosotros.

7 S o Joshua went up from Gilgal, he, and the whole army with him, including all the mighty men of valor.

Y subió Josué de Gilgal, él y todo el pueblo de guerra con él, y todos los hombres valientes.

8 Y ahweh said to Joshua, “Don’t fear them, for I have delivered them into your hands. Not a man of them will stand before you.”

Y Jehová dijo a Josué: No tengas temor de ellos; porque yo los he entregado en tu mano, y ninguno de ellos prevalecerá delante de ti.

9 J oshua therefore came to them suddenly. He marched from Gilgal all night.

Y Josué vino a ellos de repente, habiendo subido toda la noche desde Gilgal.

10 Y ahweh confused them before Israel. He killed them with a great slaughter at Gibeon, and chased them by the way of the ascent of Beth Horon, and struck them to Azekah and to Makkedah.

Y Jehová los llenó de consternación delante de Israel, y los hirió con gran mortandad en Gabaón; y los siguió por el camino que sube a Bet-horón, y los hirió hasta Azeca y Maceda.

11 A s they fled from before Israel, while they were at the descent of Beth Horon, Yahweh hurled down great stones from the sky on them to Azekah, and they died. There were more who died from the hailstones than those whom the children of Israel killed with the sword.

Y mientras iban huyendo de los israelitas, a la bajada de Bet-horón, Jehová arrojó desde el cielo grandes piedras sobre ellos hasta Azeca, y murieron; y fueron más los que murieron por las piedras del granizo, que los que los hijos de Israel mataron a espada.

12 T hen Joshua spoke to Yahweh in the day when Yahweh delivered up the Amorites before the children of Israel. He said in the sight of Israel, “Sun, stand still on Gibeon! You, moon, stop in the valley of Aijalon!”

Entonces Josué habló a Jehová el día en que Jehová entregó al amorreo delante de los hijos de Israel, y dijo en presencia de los israelitas: Sol, detente en Gabaón; Y tú, luna, en el valle de Ajalón.

13 T he sun stood still, and the moon stayed, until the nation had avenged themselves of their enemies. Isn’t this written in the book of Jashar? The sun stayed in the middle of the sky, and didn’t hurry to go down about a whole day.

Y el sol se detuvo y la luna se paró, Hasta que la gente se hubo vengado de sus enemigos. m ¿No está escrito esto en el libro de Jaser? Y el sol se paró en medio del cielo, y no se apresuró a ponerse casi un día entero.

14 T here was no day like that before it or after it, that Yahweh listened to the voice of a man; for Yahweh fought for Israel.

Y no hubo día como aquel, ni antes ni después de él, habiendo atendido Jehová a la voz de un hombre; porque Jehová peleaba por Israel.

15 J oshua returned, and all Israel with him, to the camp to Gilgal.

Y Josué, y todo Israel con él, volvió al campamento en Gilgal.

16 T hese five kings fled, and hid themselves in the cave at Makkedah.

Y los cinco reyes huyeron, y se escondieron en una cueva en Maceda.

17 J oshua was told, saying, “The five kings have been found, hidden in the cave at Makkedah.”

Y fue dado aviso a Josué que los cinco reyes habían sido hallados escondidos en una cueva en Maceda.

18 J oshua said, “Roll large stones to cover the cave’s entrance, and set men by it to guard them;

Entonces Josué dijo: Rodad grandes piedras a la entrada de la cueva, y poned hombres junto a ella para que los guarden;

19 b ut don’t stay there. Pursue your enemies, and attack them from the rear. Don’t allow them to enter into their cities; for Yahweh your God has delivered them into your hand.”

y vosotros no os detengáis, sino seguid a vuestros enemigos, y heridles la retaguardia, sin dejarles entrar en sus ciudades; porque Jehová vuestro Dios los ha entregado en vuestra mano.

20 W hen Joshua and the children of Israel had finished killing them with a very great slaughter until they were consumed, and the remnant which remained of them had entered into the fortified cities,

Y aconteció que cuando Josué y los hijos de Israel acabaron de herirlos con gran mortandad hasta destruirlos, los que quedaron de ellos se metieron en las ciudades fortificadas.

21 a ll the people returned to the camp to Joshua at Makkedah in peace. None moved his tongue against any of the children of Israel.

Todo el pueblo volvió sano y salvo a Josué, al campamento en Maceda; no hubo quien moviese su lengua contra ninguno de los hijos de Israel.

22 T hen Joshua said, “Open the cave entrance, and bring those five kings out of the cave to me.”

Entonces dijo Josué: Abrid la entrada de la cueva, y sacad de ella a esos cinco reyes.

23 T hey did so, and brought those five kings out of the cave to him: the king of Jerusalem, the king of Hebron, the king of Jarmuth, the king of Lachish, and the king of Eglon.

Y lo hicieron así, y sacaron de la cueva a aquellos cinco reyes: al rey de Jerusalén, al rey de Hebrón, al rey de Jarmut, al rey de Laquis y al rey de Eglón.

24 W hen they brought those kings out to Joshua, Joshua called for all the men of Israel, and said to the chiefs of the men of war who went with him, “Come near. Put your feet on the necks of these kings.” They came near, and put their feet on their necks.

Y cuando los hubieron llevado a Josué, llamó Josué a todos los varones de Israel, y dijo a los principales de la gente de guerra que habían venido con él: Acercaos, y poned vuestros pies sobre los cuellos de estos reyes. Y ellos se acercaron y pusieron sus pies sobre los cuellos de ellos.

25 J oshua said to them, “Don’t be afraid, nor be dismayed. Be strong and courageous, for Yahweh will do this to all your enemies against whom you fight.”

Y Josué les dijo: No temáis, ni os atemoricéis; sed fuertes y valientes, porque así hará Jehová a todos vuestros enemigos contra los cuales peleáis.

26 A fterward Joshua struck them, put them to death, and hanged them on five trees. They were hanging on the trees until the evening.

Y después de esto Josué los hirió y los mató, y los hizo colgar en cinco maderos; y quedaron colgados en los maderos hasta caer la noche.

27 A t the time of the going down of the sun, Joshua commanded, and they took them down off the trees, and threw them into the cave in which they had hidden themselves, and laid great stones on the mouth of the cave, which remain to this very day.

Y cuando el sol se iba a poner, mandó Josué que los quitasen de los maderos, y los echasen en la cueva donde se habían escondido; y pusieron grandes piedras a la entrada de la cueva, las cuales permanecen hasta hoy.

28 J oshua took Makkedah on that day, and struck it with the edge of the sword, with its king. He utterly destroyed it and all the souls who were in it. He left no one remaining. He did to the king of Makkedah as he had done to the king of Jericho.

En aquel mismo día tomó Josué a Maceda, y la hirió a filo de espada, y mató a su rey; por completo los destruyó, con todo lo que en ella tenía vida, sin dejar nada; e hizo al rey de Maceda como había hecho al rey de Jericó.

29 J oshua passed from Makkedah, and all Israel with him, to Libnah, and fought against Libnah.

Y de Maceda pasó Josué, y todo Israel con él, a Libna; y peleó contra Libna;

30 Y ahweh delivered it also, with its king, into the hand of Israel. He struck it with the edge of the sword, and all the souls who were in it. He left no one remaining in it. He did to its king as he had done to the king of Jericho.

y Jehová la entregó también a ella y a su rey en manos de Israel; y la hirió a filo de espada, con todo lo que en ella tenía vida, sin dejar nada; e hizo a su rey de la manera como había hecho al rey de Jericó.

31 J oshua passed from Libnah, and all Israel with him, to Lachish, and encamped against it, and fought against it.

Y Josué, y todo Israel con él, pasó de Libna a Laquis, y acampó cerca de ella, y la combatió;

32 Y ahweh delivered Lachish into the hand of Israel. He took it on the second day, and struck it with the edge of the sword, with all the souls who were in it, according to all that he had done to Libnah.

y Jehová entregó a Laquis en mano de Israel, y la tomó al día siguiente, y la hirió a filo de espada, con todo lo que en ella tenía vida, así como había hecho en Libna.

33 T hen Horam king of Gezer came up to help Lachish; and Joshua struck him and his people, until he had left him no one remaining.

Entonces Horam rey de Gezer subió en ayuda de Laquis; mas a él y a su pueblo destruyó Josué, hasta no dejar a ninguno de ellos.

34 J oshua passed from Lachish, and all Israel with him, to Eglon; and they encamped against it fought against it.

De Laquis pasó Josué, y todo Israel con él, a Eglón; y acamparon cerca de ella, y la combatieron;

35 T hey took it on that day, and struck it with the edge of the sword. He utterly destroyed all the souls who were in it that day, according to all that he had done to Lachish.

y la tomaron el mismo día, y la hirieron a filo de espada; y aquel día mató a todo lo que en ella tenía vida, como había hecho en Laquis.

36 J oshua went up from Eglon, and all Israel with him, to Hebron; and they fought against it.

Subió luego Josué, y todo Israel con él, de Eglón a Hebrón, y la combatieron.

37 T hey took it, and struck it with the edge of the sword, with its king and all its cities, and all the souls who were in it. He left no one remaining, according to all that he had done to Eglon; but he utterly destroyed it, and all the souls who were in it.

Y tomándola, la hirieron a filo de espada, a su rey y a todas sus ciudades, con todo lo que en ella tenía vida, sin dejar nada; como había hecho a Eglón, así la destruyeron con todo lo que en ella tenía vida.

38 J oshua returned, and all Israel with him, to Debir, and fought against it.

Después volvió Josué, y todo Israel con él, sobre Debir, y combatió contra ella;

39 H e took it, with its king and all its cities. They struck them with the edge of the sword, and utterly destroyed all the souls who were in it. He left no one remaining. As he had done to Hebron, so he did to Debir, and to its king; as he had done also to Libnah, and to its king.

y la tomó, y a su rey, y a todas sus ciudades; y las hirieron a filo de espada, y destruyeron todo lo que allí dentro tenía vida, sin dejar nada; como había hecho a Hebrón, y como había hecho a Libna y a su rey, así hizo a Debir y a su rey.

40 S o Joshua struck all the land, the hill country, the South, the lowland, the slopes, and all their kings. He left no one remaining, but he utterly destroyed all that breathed, as Yahweh, the God of Israel, commanded.

Hirió, pues, Josué toda la región de las montañas, del Neguev, de los llanos y de las laderas, y a todos sus reyes, sin dejar nada; todo lo que tenía vida lo mató, como Jehová Dios de Israel se lo había mandado.

41 J oshua struck them from Kadesh Barnea even to Gaza, and all the country of Goshen, even to Gibeon.

Y los hirió Josué desde Cades-barnea hasta Gaza, y toda la tierra de Gosén hasta Gabaón.

42 J oshua took all these kings and their land at one time, because Yahweh, the God of Israel, fought for Israel.

Todos estos reyes y sus tierras los tomó Josué de una vez; porque Jehová el Dios de Israel peleaba por Israel.

43 J oshua returned, and all Israel with him, to the camp to Gilgal.

Y volvió Josué, y todo Israel con él, al campamento en Gilgal.
