1 “ If a man steals an ox or a sheep, and kills it, or sells it; he shall pay five oxen for an ox, and four sheep for a sheep.
Cuando alguno hurtare buey u oveja, y lo degollare o vendiere, por aquel buey pagará cinco bueyes, y por aquella oveja cuatro ovejas.
2 I f the thief is found breaking in, and is struck so that he dies, there shall be no guilt of bloodshed for him.
Si el ladrón fuere hallado forzando una casa, y fuere herido y muriere, el que lo hirió no será culpado de su muerte.
3 I f the sun has risen on him, guilt of bloodshed shall be for him; he shall make restitution. If he has nothing, then he shall be sold for his theft.
Pero si fuere de día, el autor de la muerte será reo de homicidio. El ladrón hará completa restitución; si no tuviere con qué, será vendido por su hurto.
4 I f the stolen property is found in his hand alive, whether it is ox, donkey, or sheep, he shall pay double.
Si fuere hallado con el hurto en la mano, vivo, sea buey o asno u oveja, pagará el doble.
5 “ If a man causes a field or vineyard to be eaten, and lets his animal loose, and it grazes in another man’s field, he shall make restitution from the best of his own field, and from the best of his own vineyard.
Si alguno hiciere pastar en campo o viña, y metiere su bestia en campo de otro, de lo mejor de su campo y de lo mejor de su viña pagará.
6 “ If fire breaks out, and catches in thorns so that the shocks of grain, or the standing grain, or the field are consumed; he who kindled the fire shall surely make restitution.
Cuando se prendiere fuego, y al quemar espinos quemare mieses amontonadas o en pie, o campo, el que encendió el fuego pagará lo quemado.
7 “ If a man delivers to his neighbor money or stuff to keep, and it is stolen out of the man’s house; if the thief is found, he shall pay double.
Cuando alguno diere a su prójimo plata o alhajas a guardar, y fuere hurtado de la casa de aquel hombre, si el ladrón fuere hallado, pagará el doble.
8 I f the thief isn’t found, then the master of the house shall come near to God, to find out if he hasn’t put his hand to his neighbor’s goods.
Si el ladrón no fuere hallado, entonces el dueño de la casa será presentado a los jueces, para que se vea si ha metido su mano en los bienes de su prójimo.
9 F or every matter of trespass, whether it is for ox, for donkey, for sheep, for clothing, or for any kind of lost thing, about which one says, ‘This is mine,’ the cause of both parties shall come before God. He whom God condemns shall pay double to his neighbor.
En toda clase de fraude, sobre buey, sobre asno, sobre oveja, sobre vestido, sobre toda cosa perdida, cuando alguno dijere: Esto es mío, la causa de ambos vendrá delante de los jueces; y el que los jueces condenaren, pagará el doble a su prójimo.
10 “ If a man delivers to his neighbor a donkey, an ox, a sheep, or any animal to keep, and it dies or is injured, or driven away, no man seeing it;
Si alguno hubiere dado a su prójimo asno, o buey, u oveja, o cualquier otro animal a guardar, y éste muriere o fuere estropeado, o fuere llevado sin verlo nadie;
11 t he oath of Yahweh shall be between them both, whether he hasn’t put his hand to his neighbor’s goods; and its owner shall accept it, and he shall not make restitution.
juramento de Jehová habrá entre ambos, de que no metió su mano a los bienes de su prójimo; y su dueño lo aceptará, y el otro no pagará.
12 B ut if it is stolen from him, he shall make restitution to its owner.
Mas si le hubiere sido hurtado, resarcirá a su dueño.
13 I f it is torn in pieces, let him bring it for evidence. He shall not make good that which was torn.
Y si le hubiere sido arrebatado por fiera, le traerá testimonio, y no pagará lo arrebatado.
14 “ If a man borrows anything of his neighbor’s, and it is injured, or dies, its owner not being with it, he shall surely make restitution.
Pero si alguno hubiere tomado prestada bestia de su prójimo, y fuere estropeada o muerta, estando ausente su dueño, deberá pagarla.
15 I f its owner is with it, he shall not make it good. If it is a leased thing, it came for its lease.
Si el dueño estaba presente no la pagará. Si era alquilada, reciba el dueño el alquiler. Leyes humanitarias
16 “ If a man entices a virgin who isn’t pledged to be married, and lies with her, he shall surely pay a dowry for her to be his wife.
Si alguno engañare a una doncella que no fuere desposada, y durmiere con ella, deberá dotarla y tomarla por mujer.
17 I f her father utterly refuses to give her to him, he shall pay money according to the dowry of virgins.
Si su padre no quisiere dársela, él le pesará plata conforme a la dote de las vírgenes.
18 “ You shall not allow a sorceress to live.
A la hechicera no dejarás que viva.
19 “ Whoever has sex with an animal shall surely be put to death.
Cualquiera que cohabitare con bestia, morirá.
20 “ He who sacrifices to any god, except to Yahweh only, shall be utterly destroyed.
El que ofreciere sacrificio a dioses excepto solamente a Jehová, será muerto.
21 “ You shall not wrong an alien or oppress him, for you were aliens in the land of Egypt.
Y al extranjero no engañarás ni angustiarás, porque extranjeros fuisteis vosotros en la tierra de Egipto.
22 “ You shall not take advantage of any widow or fatherless child.
A ninguna viuda ni huérfano afligiréis.
23 I f you take advantage of them at all, and they cry at all to me, I will surely hear their cry;
Porque si tú llegas a afligirles, y ellos clamaren a mí, ciertamente oiré yo su clamor;
24 a nd my wrath will grow hot, and I will kill you with the sword; and your wives shall be widows, and your children fatherless.
y mi furor se encenderá, y os mataré a espada, y vuestras mujeres serán viudas, y huérfanos vuestros hijos.
25 “ If you lend money to any of my people with you who is poor, you shall not be to him as a creditor. You shall not charge him interest.
Cuando prestares dinero a uno de mi pueblo, al pobre que está contigo, no te portarás con él como logrero, ni le impondrás usura.
26 I f you take your neighbor’s garment as collateral, you shall restore it to him before the sun goes down,
Si tomares en prenda el vestido de tu prójimo, a la puesta del sol se lo devolverás.
27 f or that is his only covering, it is his garment for his skin. What would he sleep in? It will happen, when he cries to me, that I will hear, for I am gracious.
Porque sólo eso es su cubierta, es su vestido para cubrir su cuerpo. ¿En qué dormirá? Y cuando él clamare a mí, yo le oiré, porque soy misericordioso.
28 “ You shall not blaspheme God, nor curse a ruler of your people.
No injuriarás a los jueces, ni maldecirás al príncipe de tu pueblo.
29 “ You shall not delay to offer from your harvest and from the outflow of your presses. “You shall give the firstborn of your sons to me.
No demorarás la primicia de tu cosecha ni de tu lagar. Me darás el primogénito de tus hijos.
30 Y ou shall do likewise with your cattle and with your sheep. Seven days it shall be with its mother, then on the eighth day you shall give it to me.
Lo mismo harás con el de tu buey y de tu oveja; siete días estará con su madre, y al octavo día me lo darás.
31 “ You shall be holy men to me, therefore you shall not eat any flesh that is torn by animals in the field. You shall cast it to the dogs.
Y me seréis varones santos. No comeréis carne destrozada por las fieras en el campo; a los perros la echaréis.
