1 S ara vivió 127 años. Estos fueron los años de la vida de Sara.

And the life of Sarah was a hundred and twenty-seven years: the years of the life of Sarah.

2 S ara murió en Quiriat Arba, que es Hebrón, en la tierra de Canaán. Abraham fue a hacer duelo por Sara y a llorar por ella.

And Sarah died in Kirjath-Arba: that is Hebron, in the land of Canaan. And Abraham came to mourn for Sarah, and to weep for her.

3 D espués Abraham dejó a su difunta, y habló a los hijos de Het:

And Abraham rose up from before his dead, and spoke to the sons of Heth, saying,

4 “ Yo soy extranjero y peregrino entre ustedes; denme en propiedad una sepultura entre ustedes, para que pueda sepultar a mi difunta y separarla de delante de mí.”

I am a stranger and a sojourner with you; give me a possession of a sepulchre with you, that I may bury my dead from before me.

5 L os hijos de Het le respondieron a Abraham:

And the sons of Heth answered Abraham, saying to him,

6 “ Escúchenos, señor nuestro: usted es un príncipe poderoso entre nosotros. Sepulte a su difunta en el mejor de nuestros sepulcros, pues ninguno de nosotros le negará su sepulcro para que sepulte a su difunta.”

Hear us, my lord: thou art a prince of God among us: in the choicest of our sepulchres bury thy dead: none of us shall withhold from thee his sepulchre for burying thy dead.

7 A braham se levantó e hizo una reverencia al pueblo de aquella tierra, los hijos de Het,

And Abraham rose up, and bowed down to the people of the land, to the sons of Heth,

8 y habló con ellos: “Si es su voluntad que yo sepulte aquí a mi difunta separándola de delante de mí, escúchenme e intercedan por mí con Efrón, hijo de Zohar,

and spoke to them, saying, If it be your will that I should bury my dead from before me, hear me, and entreat for me Ephron the son of Zohar,

9 p ara que me dé la cueva de Macpela que le pertenece, que está al extremo de su campo. Que en presencia de ustedes me la dé por un precio justo en posesión para una sepultura.”

that he may give me the cave of Machpelah, which is his, which is at the end of his field; for the full money let him give it to me amongst you for a possession of a sepulchre.

10 E frón estaba sentado entre los hijos de Het. Y Efrón, el Hitita, respondió a Abraham a oídos de los hijos de Het y de todos los que entraban por la puerta de su ciudad:

And Ephron was dwelling among the sons of Heth. And Ephron the Hittite answered Abraham, in the ears of the sons of Heth, of all that went in at the gate of his city, saying,

11 “ No, señor mío, escúcheme. Le doy el campo y le doy la cueva que está en él. A la vista de los hijos de mi pueblo se lo doy. Sepulte a su difunta.”

No, my lord: hear me. The field give I thee; and the cave that is in it, to thee I give it; before the eyes of the sons of my people give I it thee: bury thy dead.

12 E ntonces Abraham se inclinó delante del pueblo de aquella tierra,

And Abraham bowed down before the people of the land;

13 y a oídos del pueblo de aquella tierra le hablo a Efrón: “Le ruego que me oiga. Le daré el precio del campo. Acépte lo de mí, para que pueda sepultar allí a mi difunta.”

and he spoke to Ephron, in the ears of the people of the land, saying, But if only thou wouldst listen to me, I give the money for the field: take of me, and I will bury my dead there.

14 E frón respondió a Abraham:

And Ephron answered Abraham, saying to him,

15 “ Señor mío, escúcheme: una tierra que vale 400 siclos (4. 56 kilos) de plata, ¿qué es eso entre usted y yo? Sepulte, pues, a su difunta.”

My lord, hearken to me. A field of four hundred shekels of silver, what is that between me and thee? bury therefore thy dead.

16 A braham escuchó a Efrón. Y Abraham pesó la plata que éste había mencionado a oídos de los hijos de Het: 400 siclos de plata, medida comercial.

And Abraham hearkened to Ephron; and Abraham weighed to Ephron the money that he had named in the ears of the sons of Heth—four hundred shekels of silver, current with the merchant.

17 A sí el campo de Efrón que está en Macpela, frente a Mamre, el campo y la cueva que hay en él, y todos los árboles en el campo dentro de sus confines, fueron cedidos

So the field of Ephron, which was at Machpelah, which was before Mamre, the field, and the cave that was in it, and all the trees that were in the field, that were in all its borders round about,

18 a Abraham en propiedad a la vista de los hijos de Het, delante de todos los que entraban por la puerta de su ciudad.

were assured to Abraham for a possession before the eyes of the sons of Heth, before all who went in at the gate of his city.

19 D espués de esto, Abraham sepultó a Sara su mujer en la cueva del campo de Macpela frente a Mamre, es decir, Hebrón, en la tierra de Canaán.

And after this, Abraham buried Sarah his wife in the cave of the field at Machpelah, opposite to Mamre: that is Hebron, in the land of Canaan.

20 E l campo y la cueva que hay en él fueron cedidos a Abraham en posesión para una sepultura por los hijos de Het.

And the field and the cave that was in it were assured to Abraham for a possession of a sepulchre by the sons of Heth.
