1 “ Si en la tierra que el Señor tu Dios te da para que la poseas, fuera encontrado alguien asesinado, tendido en el campo, y no se sabe quién lo mató,

If one be found slain in the land which Jehovah thy God giveth thee to possess, lying in the field, it be not known who hath smitten him,

2 e ntonces tus ancianos y tus jueces irán y medirán la distancia a las ciudades que están alrededor del muerto.

then thine elders and thy judges shall go forth, and they shall measure unto the cities which are round about him that is slain;

3 Y sucederá que los ancianos de la ciudad más próxima al lugar donde fue hallado el muerto, tomarán de la manada una novilla que no haya trabajado y que no haya llevado yugo;

and the city that is nearest unto him that is slain, even the elders of that city shall take a heifer that hath not been wrought with, that hath not drawn in the yoke;

4 y los ancianos de esa ciudad traerán la novilla a un valle de aguas perennes, el cual no haya sido arado ni sembrado, y quebrarán el cuello de la novilla allí en el valle.

and the elders of that city shall bring down the heifer unto an ever-flowing watercourse, which is not tilled, nor is it sown, and shall break the heifer's neck there in the watercourse;

5 E ntonces se acercarán los sacerdotes, hijos de Leví, porque el Señor tu Dios los ha escogido para que Le sirvan y para bendecir en el nombre del Señor, y ellos decidirán todo litigio y toda ofensa;

and the priests the sons of Levi shall come near; for them Jehovah thy God hath chosen to do service unto him, and to bless in the name of Jehovah; and according to their word shall be every controversy and every stroke.

6 y todos los ancianos de la ciudad más cercana al lugar donde fue hallado el muerto, lavarán sus manos sobre la novilla cuyo cuello fue quebrado en el valle;

And all the elders of that city, that are nearest unto him that is slain, shall wash their hands over the heifer whose neck is broken in the watercourse,

7 y responderán y dirán: ‘Nuestras manos no han derramado esta sangre, ni nuestros ojos han visto nada.

and shall answer and say, Our hands have not shed this blood, neither have our eyes seen it.

8 ‘ Perdona a Tu pueblo Israel, al cual has redimido, oh Señor, y no culpes de sangre inocente a Tu pueblo Israel.’ Y la culpa de la sangre les será perdonada.

Forgive thy people Israel, whom thou, Jehovah, hast redeemed, and lay not innocent blood to the charge of thy people Israel; and the blood shall be expiated for them.

9 A sí limpiarás la culpa de sangre inocente de en medio de ti, cuando hagas lo que es recto a los ojos del Señor. Otras Leyes

So shalt thou put away innocent blood from thy midst, when thou shalt do what is right in the eyes of Jehovah.

10 C uando salgas a la guerra contra tus enemigos, y el Señor tu Dios los entregue en tus manos, y los tomes en cautiverio,

When thou goest forth to war against thine enemies, and Jehovah thy God delivereth them into thy hands, and thou hast taken captives of them,

11 y veas entre los cautivos una mujer hermosa, y la desees, y la tomes para ti por mujer,

and thou seest among the captives a woman of beautiful form, and hast a desire unto her, and takest her as thy wife;

12 l a traerás a tu casa, y ella se rasurará la cabeza y se cortará sus uñas.

then thou shalt bring her home to thy house; and she shall shave her head, and pare her nails;

13 T ambién se quitará el vestido de su cautiverio, permanecerá en tu casa y llorará por su padre y por su madre por todo un mes; después de eso podrás llegarte a ella y ser su marido, y ella será tu mujer.

and she shall put the clothes of her captivity from off her, and shall abide in thy house, and bewail her father and mother a full month, and afterwards thou mayest go in unto her, and be her husband, and she shall be thy wife.

14 P ero si no te agrada, la dejarás ir adonde quiera. No la venderás por dinero, ni la maltratarás, porque la has humillado.

And it shall be, if thou have no delight in her, then thou shalt let her go according to her desire; but thou shalt in no wise sell her for money; thou shalt not treat her as a slave, because thou hast humbled her.

15 S i un hombre tiene dos mujeres, una amada y otra aborrecida, y tanto la amada como la aborrecida le han dado hijos, si el primogénito es de la aborrecida,

If a man have two wives, one beloved, and one hated, and they have borne him children, both the beloved and the hated, and the firstborn son be hers that was hated;

16 e l día que reparta lo que tiene entre sus hijos, no puede él hacer primogénito al hijo de la amada con preferencia al hijo de la aborrecida, que es el primogénito,

then it shall be, in the day that he maketh his sons to inherit what he hath, that he may not make the son of the beloved firstborn before the son of the hated, who is the firstborn;

17 s ino que reconocerá al primogénito, al hijo de la aborrecida, dándole una porción doble de todo lo que tiene, porque él es el principio de su vigor; a él le pertenece el derecho de primogenitura.

but he shall acknowledge as firstborn the son of the hated, by giving him a double portion of all that is found with him; for he is the firstfruits of his vigour: the right of the firstborn is his.

18 S i un hombre tiene un hijo terco y rebelde que no obedece a su padre ni a su madre, y aunque lo castiguen, ni aun así les hace caso,

If a man have an unmanageable and rebellious son, who hearkeneth not unto the voice of his father, nor unto the voice of his mother, and they have chastened him, but he hearkeneth not unto them;

19 e l padre y la madre lo tomarán y lo llevarán fuera a los ancianos de su ciudad, a la puerta de su ciudad natal.

then shall his father and his mother lay hold on him, and bring him out unto the elders of his city, and unto the gate of his place;

20 Y dirán a los ancianos de la ciudad: ‘Este hijo nuestro es terco y rebelde, no nos obedece, es glotón y borracho.’

and they shall say unto the elders of his city, This our son is unmanageable and rebellious, he hearkeneth not unto our voice; he is a profligate and a drunkard.

21 E ntonces todos los hombres de la ciudad lo apedrearán hasta que muera. Así quitarás el mal de en medio de ti, y todo Israel oirá esto y temerá.

And all the men of his city shall stone him with stones, that he die. And thou shalt put evil away from thy midst; and all Israel shall hear and fear.

22 S i un hombre ha cometido pecado digno de muerte, y se le ha dado muerte, y lo has colgado de un árbol,

And if a man have committed a sin worthy of death, and he be put to death, and thou have hanged him on a tree,

23 s u cuerpo no quedará colgado del árbol toda la noche, sino que ciertamente lo enterrarás el mismo día (pues el colgado es maldito de Dios ), para que no contamines la tierra que el Señor tu Dios te da en heredad.”

his body shall not remain all night upon the tree, but thou shalt in any wise bury him that day (for he that is hanged is a curse of God); and thou shalt not defile thy land, which Jehovah thy God giveth thee for an inheritance.
