1 J osías tenía ocho años cuando comenzó a reinar, y reinó treinta y un años en Jerusalén. El nombre de su madre era Jedida, hija de Adaía, de Boscat.

Josiah was eight years old when he began to reign; and he reigned thirty-one years in Jerusalem; and his mother's name was Jedidah, daughter of Adaiah of Bozcath.

2 H izo lo recto ante los ojos del Señor y anduvo en todo el camino de su padre David; no se apartó ni a la derecha ni a la izquierda.

And he did what was right in the sight of Jehovah, and walked in all the way of David his father, and turned not aside to the right hand nor to the left.

3 Y en el año dieciocho del rey Josías, el rey envió al escriba Safán, hijo de Azalía, de Mesulam, a la casa del Señor, diciéndole:

And it came to pass in the eighteenth year of king Josiah, the king sent Shaphan the son of Azaliah, son of Meshullam, the scribe, to the house of Jehovah, saying,

4 “ Ve al sumo sacerdote Hilcías para que cuente el dinero traído a la casa del Señor, que los guardianes del umbral han recogido del pueblo,

Go up to Hilkijah the high priest, that he may sum up the money which is brought into the house of Jehovah, which the doorkeepers have gathered of the people,

5 y que lo pongan en mano de los obreros encargados de supervisar la casa del Señor, y que ellos lo den a los obreros que están asignados en la casa del Señor para reparar los daños de la casa,

and let them give it into the hand of them that do the work, that have the oversight of the house of Jehovah; and let them give it to those that do the work in the house of Jehovah, to repair the breaches of the house,

6 a los carpinteros, a los constructores y a los albañiles, y para comprar maderas y piedra de cantería para reparar la casa.

to the carpenters and the builders and the masons, and to buy timber and hewn stone to repair the house.

7 P ero no se les pedirá cuenta del dinero entregado en sus manos porque obran con fidelidad.” Hallazgo del Libro de la Ley

But no reckoning was made with them of the money that was given into their hand, because they dealt faithfully.

8 E ntonces el sumo sacerdote Hilcías dijo al escriba Safán: “He hallado el Libro de la Ley en la casa del Señor.” E Hilcías dio el libro a Safán, y éste lo leyó.

And Hilkijah the high priest said to Shaphan the scribe, I have found the book of the law in the house of Jehovah. And Hilkijah gave the book to Shaphan, and he read it.

9 Y el escriba Safán vino al rey, y trajo palabra al rey, diciendo: “Sus siervos han tomado el dinero que se halló en la casa, y lo han puesto en mano de los obreros encargados de supervisar la casa del Señor.”

And Shaphan the scribe came to the king, and brought the king word again and said, Thy servants have emptied out the money that was found in the house, and have delivered it into the hand of them that do the work, that have the oversight of the house of Jehovah.

10 E l escriba Safán informó también al rey: “El sacerdote Hilcías me ha dado un libro.” Y Safán lo leyó en la presencia del rey.

And Shaphan the scribe informed the king saying, Hilkijah the priest has given me a book. And Shaphan read it before the king.

11 C uando el rey oyó las palabras del Libro de la Ley, rasgó sus vestidos.

And it came to pass when the king heard the words of the book of the law, that he rent his garments.

12 E ntonces el rey ordenó al sacerdote Hilcías, a Ahicam, hijo de Safán, a Acbor, hijo de Micaías, al escriba Safán y a Asaías, siervo del rey:

And the king commanded Hilkijah the priest, and Ahikam the son of Shaphan, and Achbor the son of Micaiah, and Shaphan the scribe, and Asaiah a servant of the king, saying,

13 “ Vayan, consulten al Señor por mí, por el pueblo y por todo Judá acerca de las palabras de este libro que se ha encontrado, porque grande es la ira del Señor que se ha encendido contra nosotros, por cuanto nuestros padres no han escuchado las palabras de este libro, haciendo conforme a todo lo que está escrito de nosotros.”

Go, inquire of Jehovah for me, and for the people, and for all Judah, concerning the words of this book which is found; for great is the wrath of Jehovah that is kindled against us, because our fathers have not hearkened to the words of this book, to do according to all that is written for us.

14 E ntonces el sacerdote Hilcías, y Ahicam, Acbor, Safán y Asaías fueron a la profetisa Hulda, mujer de Salum, hijo de Ticva, hijo de Harhas, encargado del vestuario. Ella habitaba en Jerusalén en el segundo sector, y hablaron con ella.

And Hilkijah the priest, and Ahikam, and Achbor, and Shaphan, and Asaiah, went to Huldah the prophetess, the wife of Shallum the son of Tikvah, son of Harhas, keeper of the wardrobe: now she dwelt in Jerusalem in the second quarter; and they spoke with her.

15 Y ella les dijo: “Así dice el Señor, Dios de Israel: ‘Digan al hombre que los ha enviado a mí:

And she said to them, Thus saith Jehovah the God of Israel: Tell the man that sent you to me,

16 A sí dice el Señor: “Voy a traer mal sobre este lugar y sobre sus habitantes, según todas las palabras del libro que ha leído el rey de Judá.

Thus saith Jehovah: Behold, I will bring evil upon this place and upon the inhabitants thereof, all the words of the book that the king of Judah hath read.

17 P or cuanto Me han abandonado y han quemado incienso a otros dioses para provocarme a ira con toda la obra de sus manos, por tanto Mi ira arde contra este lugar y no se apagará.”’

Because they have forsaken me, and have burned incense unto other gods, that they might provoke me to anger with all the work of their hands, therefore my fury is kindled against this place, and shall not be quenched.

18 “ Pero al rey de Judá que los envió a consultar al Señor, así le dirán: ‘Así dice el Señor, Dios de Israel: “ En cuanto a las palabras que has oído,

But to the king of Judah, who sent you to inquire of Jehovah, thus shall ye say to him: Thus saith Jehovah the God of Israel touching the words which thou hast heard:

19 p orque se enterneció tu corazón y te humillaste delante del Señor cuando oíste lo que hablé contra este lugar y contra sus habitantes, que vendrían a ser desolación y maldición, y has rasgado tus vestidos y has llorado delante de Mí, ciertamente te he oído,’ declara el Señor.

Because thy heart was tender, and thou didst humble thyself before Jehovah, when thou heardest what I spoke against this place and against the inhabitants thereof, that they should become a desolation and a curse, and didst rend thy garments and weep before me, I also have heard, saith Jehovah.

20 P or tanto, te reuniré con tus padres y serás recogido en tu sepultura en paz, y tus ojos no verán todo el mal que Yo voy a traer sobre este lugar.”’” Y llevaron la respuesta al rey.

Therefore, behold, I will gather thee unto thy fathers, and thou shalt be gathered to thy grave in peace; and thine eyes shall not see all the evil that I will bring upon this place. And they brought the king word again.
