1 E l Señor habló a Moisés en las llanuras de Moab, junto al Jordán, frente a Jericó y le dijo:

And Jehovah spoke to Moses in the plains of Moab by the Jordan of Jericho, saying,

2 “ Manda a los Israelitas que de la herencia de su posesión den a los Levitas ciudades en que puedan habitar; también darán a los Levitas tierras de pasto alrededor de las ciudades.

Command the children of Israel, that of the inheritance of their possession they give unto the Levites cities to dwell in; and a suburb for the cities round about them shall ye give unto the Levites.

3 L as ciudades serán suyas para habitar; y sus tierras de pasto serán para sus animales, para sus ganados y para todas sus bestias.

And the cities shall they have to dwell in, and their suburbs shall be for their cattle, and for their goods, and for all their beasts.

4 “ Las tierras de pasto de las ciudades que darán a los Levitas se extenderán desde la muralla de la ciudad hacia afuera 1, 000 codos (450 m) alrededor.

And the suburbs of the cities that ye shall give unto the Levites shall be from the walls of the city outward, a thousand cubits round about.

5 M edirán también afuera de la ciudad, al lado oriental 900 metros, al lado sur 900 metros, al lado occidental 900 metros, y al lado norte 900 metros, con la ciudad en el centro. Esto será de ellos para tierras de pasto en las ciudades.

And ye shall measure, without the city, the east side two thousand cubits, and the south side two thousand cubits, and the west side two thousand cubits, and the north side two thousand cubits, and the city shall be in the midst: they shall have this as suburbs of the cities.

6 D e las ciudades que ustedes darán a los Levitas, seis serán ciudades de refugio. Darán estas ciudades para que el que haya matado a alguien huya a ellas. Además de éstas, les darán cuarenta y dos ciudades.

And the cities that ye shall give unto the Levites the six cities of refuge, which ye shall appoint for the manslayer, that he may flee thither,—and besides them ye shall give forty-two cities:

7 T odas las ciudades que ustedes darán a los Levitas serán cuarenta y ocho ciudades, junto con sus tierras de pasto.

all the cities that ye shall give to the Levites shall be forty-eight cities, they and their suburbs.

8 E n cuanto a las ciudades que darán de la posesión de los Israelitas, tomarán más del más grande y tomarán menos del más pequeño; cada uno dará algunas de sus ciudades a los Levitas en proporción a la posesión que herede.”

And the cities which ye shall give shall be of the possession of the children of Israel: from them that have much ye shall take much, and from them that have little ye shall take little; each one according to his inheritance which he will inherit shall give of his cities to the Levites.

9 L uego el Señor dijo a Moisés:

And Jehovah spoke to Moses, saying,

10 “ Habla a los Israelitas, y diles: ‘Cuando crucen el Jordán a la tierra de Canaán,

Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, When ye pass over the Jordan into the land of Canaan,

11 e scogerán para ustedes ciudades para que sean sus ciudades de refugio, a fin de que pueda huir allí el que haya matado a alguna persona sin intención.

then ye shall appoint for yourselves cities: cities of refuge shall they be for you; that a manslayer may flee thither, who without intent smiteth a person mortally.

12 L as ciudades serán para ustedes como refugio contra el vengador, para que el que haya matado a alguien no muera hasta que comparezca delante de la congregación para juicio.

And ye shall have these cities for refuge from the avenger; that the manslayer die not, until he have stood before the assembly in judgment.

13 L as ciudades que darán serán sus seis ciudades de refugio.

And the cities that ye shall give shall be six cities of refuge for you.

14 D arán tres ciudades al otro lado del Jordán y tres ciudades en la tierra de Canaán; serán ciudades de refugio.

Three cities shall ye give on this side of the Jordan, and three cities shall ye give in the land of Canaan; they shall be cities of refuge.

15 E stas seis ciudades serán por refugio para los Israelitas, y para el extranjero y para el peregrino entre ellos, para que huya allí cualquiera que sin intención mate a una persona.

For the children of Israel, and for the stranger, and for the sojourner among them shall these six cities be a refuge, that one who smiteth a person mortally without intent may flee thither.

16 P ero si lo hirió con un objeto de hierro, y murió, es un asesino; al asesino ciertamente se le dará muerte.

And if he have smitten him with an instrument of iron, so that he die, he is a murderer: the murderer shall certainly be put to death.

17 Y si lo hirió con una piedra en la mano, por la cual pueda morir, y muere, es un asesino; al asesino ciertamente se le dará muerte.

And if he have smitten him with a stone from the hand, wherewith one may die, and he die, he is a murderer: the murderer shall certainly be put to death.

18 O si lo golpeó con un objeto de madera en la mano, por lo cual pueda morir, y muere, es un asesino; al asesino ciertamente se le dará muerte.

Or if he have smitten him with an instrument of wood, in the hand, wherewith one may die, and he die, he is a murderer: the murderer shall certainly be put to death;

19 E l vengador de sangre, él mismo dará muerte al asesino; le dará muerte cuando se encuentre con él.

the avenger of blood, he shall put the murderer to death; when he meeteth him, he shall put him to death.

20 Y si lo empujó con odio, o le arrojó algo mientras lo acechaba, y murió,

And if he thrust at him out of hatred, or hurl at him intentionally, so that he die,

21 o si lo hirió con la mano en enemistad, y murió, al que lo hirió ciertamente se le dará muerte; es un asesino. El vengador de sangre dará muerte al asesino cuando se encuentre con él.

or from enmity smite him with his hand, so that he die, he that smote him shall certainly be put to death; he is a murderer: the avenger of blood shall put the murderer to death, when he meeteth him.—

22 P ero si lo empujó súbitamente sin enemistad, o le arrojó algo sin acecharlo,

But if he have thrust at him suddenly without enmity, or have cast upon him anything unintentionally,

23 o tiró cualquier piedra que pudo matarlo, y sin ver que le cayó encima, murió, no siendo su enemigo ni procurando herirlo,

or with any stone wherewith one may die, without seeing him, and have cast it upon him so that he die, and he was not his enemy, neither sought his harm:

24 e ntonces la congregación juzgará entre el que mató y el vengador de la sangre conforme a estas ordenanzas.

then the assembly shall judge between the smiter and the avenger of blood according to these judgments;

25 L a congregación librará al acusado de la mano del vengador de sangre, y la congregación lo restaurará a la ciudad de refugio a la cual huyó; y vivirá en ella hasta la muerte del sumo sacerdote que fue ungido con óleo santo.

and the assembly shall rescue the manslayer out of the hand of the avenger of blood, and the assembly shall restore him to the city of his refuge, whither he had fled; and he shall abide in it until the death of the high-priest, who was anointed with the holy oil.

26 P ero si el que causó la muerte del otro sale alguna vez de los límites de la ciudad de refugio a la cual pudo huir,

But if the manslayer shall in any way come outside the limits of the city of his refuge whither he hath fled,

27 y el vengador de sangre lo encuentra fuera de los límites de la ciudad de refugio, y el vengador de sangre mata al acusado, no será culpable de sangre.

and the avenger of blood find him outside the limits of his city of refuge, and the avenger of blood kill the manslayer, there shall be no blood-guiltiness upon him;

28 ‘ Porque el acusado debió haber permanecido en la ciudad de refugio hasta la muerte del sumo sacerdote. Pero después de la muerte del sumo sacerdote, el que mató a otro volverá a su tierra.

for the manslayer should have remained in the city of his refuge until the death of the high-priest; but after the death of the high-priest he may return into the land of his possession.

29 E stas cosas serán por norma de derecho para ustedes por sus generaciones en todas sus moradas.

And this shall be unto you a statute of right throughout your generations in all your dwellings.

30 S i alguien mata a una persona, al asesino se le dará muerte ante la evidencia de testigos, pero a ninguna persona se le dará muerte por el testimonio de un solo testigo.

Whoever shall smite a person mortally, at the mouth of witnesses shall the murderer be put to death; but one witness shall not testify against a person to cause him to die.

31 A demás, ustedes no tomarán rescate por la vida de un asesino que es culpable de muerte, sino que de cierto se le dará muerte;

And ye shall take no satisfaction for the life of a murderer, who is guilty of death, but he shall certainly be put to death.

32 y no tomarán rescate por el que ha huido a la ciudad de refugio para que vuelva y habite en la tierra antes de la muerte del sacerdote.

And ye shall take no satisfaction for him that hath fled to the city of his refuge, that he should come again to dwell in the land, until the death of the priest.

33 A sí que no contaminarán la tierra en que están; porque la sangre contamina la tierra, y no se puede hacer expiación por la tierra, por la sangre derramada en ella, excepto mediante la sangre del que la derramó.

And ye shall not pollute the land wherein ye are; for blood, it polluteth the land; and there can be no atonement made for the land, for the blood that hath been shed therein, but by the blood of him that shed it.

34 Y no contaminarán la tierra en que ustedes viven, en medio de la cual Yo habito, pues Yo, el Señor, habito en medio de los Israelitas.’”

And ye shall not defile the land that ye inhabit, in the midst whereof I dwell; for I am Jehovah who dwell in the midst of the children of Israel.
