1 H abía un hombre de Ramataim de Zofim, de la región montañosa de Efraín, que se llamaba Elcana, hijo de Jeroham, hijo de Eliú, hijo de Tohu, hijo de Zuf, el Efrateo.

And there was a certain man of Ramathaim-zophim, of mount Ephraim, and his name was Elkanah, the son of Jeroham, the son of Elihu, the son of Tohu, the son of Zuph, an Ephrathite.

2 E lcana tenía dos mujeres: el nombre de una era Ana y el de la otra Penina. Penina tenía hijos, pero Ana no los tenía.

And he had two wives: the name of the one was Hannah, and the name of the other Peninnah; and Peninnah had children, but Hannah had no children.

3 T odos los años aquel hombre subía de su ciudad para adorar y ofrecer sacrificio al Señor de los ejércitos en Silo. Allí los dos hijos de Elí, Ofni y Finees, eran sacerdotes del Señor.

And this man went up out of his city from year to year to worship and to sacrifice to Jehovah of hosts in Shiloh. And the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, the priests of Jehovah, were there.

4 C uando llegaba el día en que Elcana ofrecía sacrificio, daba porciones a Penina su mujer y a todos sus hijos e hijas;

And it came to pass on the day that Elkanah sacrificed, he gave to Peninnah his wife and to all her sons and her daughters portions;

5 p ero a Ana le daba una doble porción, pues él amaba a Ana, aunque el Señor no le había dado hijos.

but to Hannah he used to give a double portion, for he loved Hannah; but Jehovah had shut up her womb.

6 S u rival, Penina, la provocaba amargamente para irritarla, porque el Señor no le había dado hijos.

And her adversary provoked her much also, to make her fret, because Jehovah had shut up her womb.

7 E sto sucedía año tras año; siempre que ella subía a la casa del Señor, Penina la provocaba, por lo que Ana lloraba y no comía.

And he did so year by year, as often as she went up to the house of Jehovah, she provoked her thus; and she wept and did not eat.

8 E ntonces Elcana su marido le dijo: “Ana, ¿por qué lloras y no comes? ¿Por qué está triste tu corazón? ¿No soy yo para ti mejor que diez hijos ?”

And Elkanah her husband said to her, Hannah, why weepest thou? and why eatest thou not? and why is thy heart grieved? Am not I better to thee than ten sons?

9 P ero Ana se levantó después de haber comido y bebido estando en Silo, y mientras el sacerdote Elí estaba sentado en la silla junto al poste de la puerta del templo del Señor,

And Hannah rose up after they had eaten in Shiloh, and after they had drunk; (now Eli the priest sat upon the seat by the door-post of the temple of Jehovah;)

10 e lla, muy angustiada, oraba al Señor y lloraba amargamente.

and she was in bitterness of soul, and prayed to Jehovah, and wept much.

11 E ntonces hizo voto y dijo: “Oh Señor de los ejércitos, si Te dignas mirar la aflicción de Tu sierva, Te acuerdas de mí y no Te olvidas de Tu sierva, sino que das un hijo a Tu sierva, yo lo dedicaré al Señor por todos los días de su vida y nunca pasará navaja sobre su cabeza.”

And she vowed a vow, and said, O Jehovah of hosts, if thou wilt indeed look on the affliction of thy handmaid, and remember me, and not forget thy handmaid, but wilt give unto thy handmaid a man child, then I will give him to Jehovah all the days of his life, and there shall no razor come upon his head.

12 M ientras ella continuaba en oración delante del Señor, Elí le estaba observando la boca.

And it came to pass as she continued praying before Jehovah, that Eli marked her mouth.

13 P ero Ana hablaba en su corazón, sólo sus labios se movían y su voz no se oía. Elí, pues, pensó que estaba ebria.

Now Hannah spoke in her heart; only her lips moved, but her voice was not heard; and Eli thought she was drunken.

14 E ntonces Elí le dijo: “¿Hasta cuándo estarás embriagada ? Echa de ti tu vino.”

And Eli said to her, How long wilt thou be drunken? put away thy wine from thee.

15 P ero Ana respondió: “No, señor mío, soy una mujer angustiada en espíritu. No he bebido vino ni licor, sino que he derramado mi alma delante del Señor.

And Hannah answered and said, No, my lord, I am a woman of a sorrowful spirit: I have drunk neither wine nor strong drink, but have poured out my soul before Jehovah.

16 N o tenga a su sierva por mujer indigna. Hasta ahora he estado orando a causa de mi gran congoja y aflicción.”

Take not thy handmaid for a daughter of Belial: for out of the abundance of my grief and provocation have I spoken hitherto.

17 “ Ve en paz,” le respondió Elí; “y que el Dios de Israel te conceda la petición que Le has hecho.”

And Eli answered and said, Go in peace; and the God of Israel grant thee thy petition which thou hast asked of him.

18 “ Halle su sierva gracia ante sus ojos,” le dijo ella. Entonces la mujer se puso en camino, comió y ya no estaba triste su semblante. Nacimiento y Dedicación de Samuel

And she said, Let thy bondwoman find grace in thy sight. And the woman went her way, and did eat, and her countenance was no more.

19 A la mañana siguiente se levantaron bien temprano, adoraron delante del Señor y regresaron de nuevo a su casa en Ramá. Y Elcana se llegó a Ana su mujer, y el Señor se acordó de ella.

And they rose up early in the morning and worshipped before Jehovah, and returned and came to their house at Ramah. And Elkanah knew Hannah his wife; and Jehovah remembered her.

20 Y a su debido tiempo, después de haber concebido, Ana dio a luz un hijo, y le puso por nombre Samuel (Oído por Dios), diciendo: “Porque se lo he pedido al Señor.”

And it came to pass when the time was come about after Hannah had conceived, that she bore a son, and called his name Samuel, Because I have asked him of Jehovah.

21 S ubió el varón Elcana con toda su casa a ofrecer al Señor el sacrificio anual y a pagar su voto.

And Elkanah her husband, and all his house, went up to sacrifice to Jehovah the yearly sacrifice and his vow.

22 P ero Ana no subió, pues dijo a su marido: “ No subiré hasta que el niño sea destetado. Entonces lo llevaré para que se presente delante del Señor y se quede allí para siempre.”

But Hannah did not go up, for she said to her husband, until the child is weaned; then will I bring him, that he may appear before Jehovah, and there abide for ever.

23 E lcana su marido le dijo: “Haz lo que mejor te parezca. Quédate hasta que lo hayas destetado; solamente confirme el Señor Su palabra.” Ana se quedó y crió a su hijo hasta que lo destetó.

And Elkanah her husband said to her, Do what is good in thy sight: abide until thou hast weaned him; only, may Jehovah fulfil his word. And the woman abode, and gave her son suck until she weaned him.

24 D espués de haberlo destetado, llevó consigo al niño, y lo trajo a la casa del Señor en Silo, aunque el niño era pequeño. También llevó un novillo de tres años, un efa (22 litros) de harina y un odre de vino.

And she took him up with her when she had weaned him, with three bullocks, and one ephah of flour, and a flask of wine, and brought him to the house of Jehovah to Shiloh; and the boy was young.

25 E ntonces sacrificaron el novillo, y trajeron el niño a Elí.

And they slaughtered the bullock, and brought the boy to Eli.

26 “ ¡Oh señor mío!” dijo Ana. “Vive su alma, señor mío. Yo soy la mujer que estuvo aquí junto a usted orando al Señor.

And she said, Oh my lord, thy soul liveth, my lord, I am the woman that stood by thee here to pray to Jehovah.

27 P or este niño oraba, y el Señor me ha concedido la petición que le hice.

For this boy I prayed; and Jehovah has granted me my petition which I asked of him.

28 P or lo cual yo también lo he dedicado al Señor. Todos los días de su vida estará dedicado al Señor.” Y adoró allí al Señor.

And also I have lent him to Jehovah: all the days that he lives, he is lent to Jehovah. And he worshipped Jehovah there.
