1 E n el año cuarto de Joacim, hijo de Josías, rey de Judá, vino esta palabra a Jeremías de parte del Señor:

And it came to pass in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, the king of Judah, this word came to Jeremiah from Jehovah, saying,

2 “ Toma un rollo y escribe en él todas las palabras que te he hablado acerca de Israel, acerca de Judá y acerca de todas las naciones, desde el día que te hablé, desde los días de Josías, hasta hoy.

Take thee a roll of a book, and write therein all the words that I have spoken unto thee against Israel, and against Judah, and against all the nations, from the day I spoke unto thee, from the days of Josiah, even unto this day.

3 T al vez la casa de Judá oiga toda la calamidad que pienso traer sobre ellos, y se vuelva cada uno de su mal camino; entonces perdonaré su iniquidad y su pecado.”

It may be the house of Judah will hear all the evil that I purpose to do unto them, that they may return every man from his evil way, and that I may forgive their iniquity and their sin.

4 L lamó, pues, Jeremías a Baruc, hijo de Nerías, y Baruc escribió al dictado de Jeremías, en un rollo, todas las palabras que el Señor le había hablado.

And Jeremiah called Baruch the son of Nerijah; and Baruch wrote from the mouth of Jeremiah all the words of Jehovah, which he had spoken unto him, upon a roll of a book.

5 E ntonces Jeremías dio órdenes a Baruc: “Estoy detenido; no puedo entrar en la casa del Señor.

And Jeremiah commanded Baruch, saying, I am shut up, I cannot go into the house of Jehovah; but go thou in,

6 V e, pues, y lee en el rollo que has escrito al dictado mío, las palabras del Señor a oídos del pueblo, en la casa del Señor un día de ayuno. También las leerás a oídos de todos los de Judá que vienen de sus ciudades.

and read in the roll, which thou hast written from my mouth, the words of Jehovah in the ears of the people in the house of Jehovah upon the fast day; and thou shalt also read them in the ears of all Judah that come from their cities.

7 T al vez su súplica llegue delante del Señor, y todos se vuelvan de su mal camino, porque grande es la ira y el furor que el Señor ha pronunciado contra este pueblo.”

It may be they will present their supplication before Jehovah, and that they will return every one from his evil way; for great is the anger and the fury that Jehovah hath pronounced against this people.

8 B aruc, hijo de Nerías, hizo conforme a todo lo que el profeta Jeremías le había mandado, y leyó en el libro las palabras del Señor, en la casa del Señor.

And Baruch the son of Nerijah did according to all that the prophet Jeremiah commanded him, reading in the book the words of Jehovah in Jehovah's house.

9 Y en el año quinto de Joacim, hijo de Josías, rey de Judá, en el mes noveno, todo el pueblo en Jerusalén y todo el pueblo que vino de las ciudades de Judá a Jerusalén proclamaron ayuno delante del Señor.

And it came to pass in the fifth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, the king of Judah, in the ninth month, they proclaimed a fast before Jehovah, for all the people in Jerusalem, and for all the people that came from the cities of Judah to Jerusalem.

10 B aruc leyó en el libro las palabras de Jeremías a oídos de todo el pueblo en la casa del Señor, en la cámara de Gemarías, hijo del escriba Safán, en el atrio superior, a la entrada de la Puerta Nueva de la casa del Señor.

And Baruch read in the book the words of Jeremiah in the house of Jehovah, in the chamber of Gemariah the son of Shaphan the scribe, in the upper court, at the entry of the new gate of the house of Jehovah, in the ears of all the people.

11 A l oír Micaías, hijo de Gemarías, hijo de Safán, todas las palabras del Señor que estaban en el libro,

And Micah the son of Gemariah the son of Shaphan heard out of the book all the words of Jehovah;

12 d escendió a la casa del rey, a la cámara del escriba. Y estaban sentados allí todos los oficiales: el escriba Elisama, Delaía, hijo de Semaías, Elnatán, hijo de Acbor, Gemarías, hijo de Safán, Sedequías, hijo de Ananías, y todos los demás oficiales.

and he went down to the king's house, into the scribe's chamber, and behold, all the princes were sitting there: Elishama the scribe, and Delaiah the son of Shemaiah, and Elnathan the son of Achbor, and Gemariah the son of Shaphan, and Zedekiah the son of Hananiah, and all the princes.

13 M icaías les declaró todas las palabras que había oído cuando Baruc leyó en el libro a oídos del pueblo.

And Micah declared unto them all the words that he had heard, when Baruch read in the book in the ears of the people.

14 E ntonces todos los oficiales enviaron a Jehudí, hijo de Netanías, hijo de Selemías, hijo de Cusi, a decir a Baruc: “Toma en tu mano el rollo en el que has leído a oídos del pueblo y ven.” Y Baruc, hijo de Nerías, tomó el rollo en su mano y fue a ellos.

And all the princes sent Jehudi the son of Nethaniah, the son of Shelemiah, the son of Cushi, unto Baruch, saying, Take in thy hand the roll in which thou hast read in the ears of the people, and come. And Baruch the son of Nerijah took the roll in his hand, and came unto them.

15 Y le dijeron: “Siéntate ahora, y léenoslo.” Y Baruc se lo leyó.

And they said unto him, Sit down now, and read it in our ears. And Baruch read in their ears.

16 C uando oyeron todas las palabras, se miraron unos a otros atemorizados, y dijeron a Baruc: “Ciertamente haremos saber al rey todas estas palabras.”

And it came to pass, when they heard all the words, they turned in fear one toward another, and said unto Baruch, We will certainly report to the king all these words.

17 Y le preguntaron a Baruc: “Cuéntanos ahora cómo escribiste todas estas palabras. ¿Fue al dictado suyo ?”

And they asked Baruch, saying, Tell us now, How didst thou write all these words from his mouth?

18 B aruc les respondió: “El me dictó todas estas palabras, y yo las escribí con tinta en el libro.”

And Baruch said unto them, He pronounced all these words unto me with his mouth, and I wrote with ink in the book.

19 E ntonces los oficiales dijeron a Baruc: “Ve, escóndete, tú y Jeremías, y que nadie sepa donde están.” El Rollo Quemado y Escrito de Nuevo

And the princes said unto Baruch, Go, hide thee, thou and Jeremiah; that none may know where ye are.

20 D espués de haber depositado el rollo en la cámara del escriba Elisama, los oficiales entraron al atrio donde estaba el rey, y contaron a oídos del rey todas las palabras.

And they went in unto the king into the court, but they laid up the roll in the chamber of Elishama the scribe; and they told all the words in the ears of the king.

21 E ntonces el rey envió a Jehudí a buscar el rollo, y éste lo tomó de la cámara del escriba Elisama, y Jehudí lo leyó al rey y a todos los oficiales que estaban junto al rey.

And the king sent Jehudi to fetch the roll, and he fetched it out of the chamber of Elishama the scribe. And Jehudi read it in the ears of the king, and in the ears of all the princes that stood beside the king.

22 E l rey estaba sentado en la casa de invierno (en el mes noveno ), y había un brasero encendido delante de él.

Now the king was sitting in the winter-house in the ninth month, and with the fire-pan burning before him.

23 Y sucedía que después que Jehudí había leído tres o cuatro columnas, el rey lo cortaba con el cuchillo del escriba y lo echaba al fuego que estaba en el brasero, hasta consumir todo el rollo en el fuego que estaba en el brasero.

And it came to pass, that when Jehudi had read three or four columns, he cut it with the scribe's knife, and cast it into the fire that was in the pan until all the roll was consumed in the fire that was in the pan.

24 N i el rey ni ninguno de sus siervos que oyeron todas estas palabras tuvieron temor ni rasgaron sus vestiduras.

And they were not afraid, nor rent their garments, the king nor any of his servants that heard all these words.

25 Y aunque Elnatán y Delaía y Gemarías rogaron al rey que no quemara el rollo, él no les hizo caso.

Moreover, Elnathan and Delaiah and Gemariah had made intercession to the king that he would not burn the roll; but he would not hear them.

26 L uego el rey ordenó a Jerameel, hijo del rey, a Seraías, hijo de Azriel, y a Selemías, hijo de Abdeel, que prendieran al escriba Baruc y al profeta Jeremías, pero el Señor los escondió.

And the king commanded Jerahmeel the son of Hammelech, and Seraiah the son of Azriel, and Shelemiah the son of Abdeel, to take Baruch the scribe and Jeremiah the prophet; but Jehovah hid them.

27 E ntonces vino la palabra del Señor a Jeremías, después que el rey había quemado el rollo y las palabras que Baruc había escrito al dictado de Jeremías:

And after that the king had burned the roll, and the words that Baruch wrote at the mouth of Jeremiah, the word of Jehovah came to Jeremiah, saying,

28 “ Vuelve a tomar otro rollo y escribe en él todas las palabras que antes había en el primer rollo que quemó Joacim, rey de Judá.

Take thee again another roll, and write in it all the former words that were in the first roll which Jehoiakim the king of Judah hath burned.

29 Y a Joacim, rey de Judá, le dirás: ‘Así dice el Señor: “Tú has quemado este rollo, diciendo: ‘¿Por qué has escrito en él que ciertamente vendrá el rey de Babilonia y destruirá esta tierra, y hará desaparecer de ella a hombres y animales?’”

And thou shalt say to Jehoiakim king of Judah, Thus saith Jehovah: Thou hast burned this roll, saying, Why hast thou written therein, saying, The king of Babylon shall certainly come and destroy this land, and shall cause to cease from it man and beast?

30 ‘ Por tanto, así dice el Señor acerca de Joacim, rey de Judá: “No tendrá quien se siente sobre el trono de David, y su cadáver quedará tirado al calor del día y a la escarcha de la noche.

Therefore thus saith Jehovah concerning Jehoiakim king of Judah: He shall have none to sit upon the throne of David; and his dead body shall be cast out in the day to the heat, and in the night to the frost.

31 “ Lo castigaré, a él, a su descendencia y a sus siervos por su iniquidad, y traeré sobre ellos, sobre los habitantes de Jerusalén y sobre los hombres de Judá toda la calamidad que les he anunciado, sin que ellos escucharan.”’”

And I will visit their iniquity upon him, and upon his seed, and upon his servants; and I will bring upon them, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and upon the men of Judah, all the evil that I have pronounced against them; and they have not hearkened.

32 E ntonces Jeremías tomó otro rollo y se lo dio al escriba Baruc, hijo de Nerías, y éste escribió en él al dictado de Jeremías todas las palabras del libro que Joacim, rey de Judá, había quemado en el fuego, y aun se le añadieron muchas palabras semejantes.

And Jeremiah took another roll, and gave it to Baruch the scribe, the son of Nerijah; and he wrote therein from the mouth of Jeremiah, all the words of the book that Jehoiakim king of Judah had burned in the fire; and there were added besides unto them many like words.
