1 ¶ Cuando fuere hallado en la tierra que el SEÑOR tu Dios te da para que la heredes, algún muerto echado en el campo, y no se supiere quién lo hirió,

If one be found slain in the land which Jehovah thy God giveth thee to possess, lying in the field, it be not known who hath smitten him,

2 e ntonces tus ancianos y tus jueces saldrán y medirán hasta las ciudades que están alrededor del muerto;

then thine elders and thy judges shall go forth, and they shall measure unto the cities which are round about him that is slain;

3 y será, que los ancianos de aquella ciudad, de la ciudad más cercana al muerto, tomarán una becerra que no haya servido, que no haya traído yugo;

and the city that is nearest unto him that is slain, even the elders of that city shall take a heifer that hath not been wrought with, that hath not drawn in the yoke;

4 y los ancianos de aquella ciudad traerán la becerra a un valle áspero, que nunca haya sido arado ni sembrado, y cortarán la cerviz a la becerra allí en el valle.

and the elders of that city shall bring down the heifer unto an ever-flowing watercourse, which is not tilled, nor is it sown, and shall break the heifer's neck there in the watercourse;

5 Y vendrán los sacerdotes hijos de Leví, porque a ellos escogió el SEÑOR tu Dios para que le sirvan, y para bendecir en nombre del SEÑOR; y por el dicho de ellos se determinará todo pleito y toda llaga.

and the priests the sons of Levi shall come near; for them Jehovah thy God hath chosen to do service unto him, and to bless in the name of Jehovah; and according to their word shall be every controversy and every stroke.

6 Y todos los ancianos de aquella ciudad más cercana al muerto lavarán sus manos sobre la becerra degollada en el valle.

And all the elders of that city, that are nearest unto him that is slain, shall wash their hands over the heifer whose neck is broken in the watercourse,

7 Y protestarán, y dirán: Nuestras manos no han derramado esta sangre, ni nuestros ojos lo vieron.

and shall answer and say, Our hands have not shed this blood, neither have our eyes seen it.

8 R econcilia a tu pueblo Israel, al cual rescataste, oh SEÑOR; y no imputes la sangre inocente derramada en medio de tu pueblo Israel. Y la sangre les será perdonada.

Forgive thy people Israel, whom thou, Jehovah, hast redeemed, and lay not innocent blood to the charge of thy people Israel; and the blood shall be expiated for them.

9 Y tú quitarás la culpa de sangre inocente de en medio de ti, cuando hicieres lo que es recto ante los ojos del SEÑOR.

So shalt thou put away innocent blood from thy midst, when thou shalt do what is right in the eyes of Jehovah.

10 ¶ Cuando salieres a la guerra contra tus enemigos, y el SEÑOR tu Dios los entregare en tu mano, y tomares de ellos cautivos,

When thou goest forth to war against thine enemies, and Jehovah thy God delivereth them into thy hands, and thou hast taken captives of them,

11 y vieres entre los cautivos alguna mujer hermosa, y la codiciares, y la tomares para ti por mujer,

and thou seest among the captives a woman of beautiful form, and hast a desire unto her, and takest her as thy wife;

12 l a meterás en tu casa; y ella raerá su cabeza, y cortará sus uñas,

then thou shalt bring her home to thy house; and she shall shave her head, and pare her nails;

13 y se quitará el vestido de su cautiverio, y se quedará en tu casa; y llorará a su padre y a su madre el tiempo de un mes; y después podrás llegarte a ella, y tú serás su marido, y ella tu mujer.

and she shall put the clothes of her captivity from off her, and shall abide in thy house, and bewail her father and mother a full month, and afterwards thou mayest go in unto her, and be her husband, and she shall be thy wife.

14 Y será, si no te agradare, que la has de dejar en su libertad; y no la venderás por dinero, ni mercadearás con ella, por cuanto la afligiste.

And it shall be, if thou have no delight in her, then thou shalt let her go according to her desire; but thou shalt in no wise sell her for money; thou shalt not treat her as a slave, because thou hast humbled her.

15 ¶ Cuando algún varón tuviere dos mujeres, la una amada y la otra aborrecida, y la amada y la aborrecida le hubieren dado a luz hijos, y el hijo primogénito fuere de la aborrecida;

If a man have two wives, one beloved, and one hated, and they have borne him children, both the beloved and the hated, and the firstborn son be hers that was hated;

16 s erá que, el día que hiciere heredar a sus hijos lo que tuviere, no podrá dar el derecho de primogenitura a los hijos de la amada en preferencia al hijo de la aborrecida, que es el primogénito;

then it shall be, in the day that he maketh his sons to inherit what he hath, that he may not make the son of the beloved firstborn before the son of the hated, who is the firstborn;

17 m as al hijo de la aborrecida se reconocerá por primogénito, para darle doble porción de todo lo que le fuere hallado; porque aquel es el principio de su fuerza, el derecho de la primogenitura es suyo.

but he shall acknowledge as firstborn the son of the hated, by giving him a double portion of all that is found with him; for he is the firstfruits of his vigour: the right of the firstborn is his.

18 ¶ Cuando alguno tuviere hijo contumaz y rebelde, que no oyere a la voz de su padre ni a la voz de su madre, y habiéndole castigado, no les oyere;

If a man have an unmanageable and rebellious son, who hearkeneth not unto the voice of his father, nor unto the voice of his mother, and they have chastened him, but he hearkeneth not unto them;

19 e ntonces lo tomarán su padre y su madre, y lo sacarán a los ancianos de su ciudad, y a la puerta del lugar suyo;

then shall his father and his mother lay hold on him, and bring him out unto the elders of his city, and unto the gate of his place;

20 y dirán a los ancianos de la ciudad: Este nuestro hijo es contumaz y rebelde, no oye nuestra voz; es glotón y borracho.

and they shall say unto the elders of his city, This our son is unmanageable and rebellious, he hearkeneth not unto our voice; he is a profligate and a drunkard.

21 E ntonces todos los hombres de su ciudad lo apedrearán con piedras, y morirá; así quitarás el mal de tu tierra; y todo Israel oirá, y temerá.

And all the men of his city shall stone him with stones, that he die. And thou shalt put evil away from thy midst; and all Israel shall hear and fear.

22 C uando alguno hubiere cometido pecado de sentencia de muerte, por el que haya de morir, y le habrás colgado de un madero,

And if a man have committed a sin worthy of death, and he be put to death, and thou have hanged him on a tree,

23 n o anochecerá su cuerpo en el madero, mas sin falta lo enterrarás el mismo día, porque maldición de Dios es el colgado; y no contaminarás tu tierra, que el SEÑOR tu Dios te da por heredad.

his body shall not remain all night upon the tree, but thou shalt in any wise bury him that day (for he that is hanged is a curse of God); and thou shalt not defile thy land, which Jehovah thy God giveth thee for an inheritance.
