1 E n aquel tiempo, dijo el SEÑOR: Sacarán los huesos de los reyes de Judá, y los huesos de sus príncipes, y los huesos de los sacerdotes, y los huesos de los profetas, y los huesos de los moradores de Jerusalén, fuera de sus sepulcros;

At that time, saith Jehovah, they shall bring forth the bones of the kings of Judah, and the bones of his princes, and the bones of the priests, and the bones of the prophets, and the bones of the inhabitants of Jerusalem, out of their graves;

2 y los esparcirán al sol, y a la luna, y a todo el ejército del cielo, a quien amaron, y a quienes sirvieron, y en pos de quienes anduvieron, y a quienes preguntaron, y a quienes se encorvaron. No serán recogidos, ni enterrados; serán por muladar sobre la faz de la tierra.

and they shall spread them out to the sun and to the moon and to all the host of the heavens, which they have loved, and which they have served, and after which they have walked, and which they have sought, and which they have worshipped: they shall not be gathered, nor be buried; they shall be for dung upon the face of the ground.

3 Y se escogerá la muerte antes que la vida todo el resto que quedare de esta mala generación, en todos los lugares a donde arrojaré yo a los que quedaren, dijo el SEÑOR de los ejércitos.

And death shall be chosen rather than life by all the residue that remain of this evil family, in all the places whither I have driven those that remain, saith Jehovah of hosts.

4 L es dirás asimismo: Así dijo el SEÑOR: ¿Por ventura el que cae, nunca se levanta? ¿El que se aparta, nunca torna?

And thou shalt say unto them, Thus saith Jehovah: Do fall, and not rise up? Doth one turn away, and not return?

5 ¿ Por qué es este pueblo de Jerusalén rebelde con rebeldía perpetua? Abrazaron el engaño, no quisieron volverse.

Why hath this people of Jerusalem slidden back with a perpetual backsliding? They hold fast deceit, they refuse to return.

6 E scuché y oí; no hablan derecho, no hay hombre que se arrepienta de su mal, diciendo: ¿Qué he hecho? Cada cual se volvió a su carrera, como caballo que arremete con ímpetu a la batalla.

I hearkened and heard: they speak not what is right; there is no man who repenteth him of his wickedness, saying, What have I done? Every one turneth to his course, like a horse rushing into the battle.

7 A un la cigüeña en el cielo conoce su tiempo, y la tórtola, la grulla y la golondrina guardan el tiempo de su venida; mas mi pueblo no conoció el juicio del SEÑOR.

Even a stork in the heavens knoweth her appointed times, and the turtle-dove and the swallow and the crane observe the time of their coming; but my people know not the judgment of Jehovah.

8 ¿ Cómo decís: Nosotros somos sabios, y la ley del SEÑOR tenemos con nosotros? Ciertamente, he aquí que en vano se cortó la pluma, por demás fueron los escribas.

How do ye say, We are wise, and the law of Jehovah is with us? Behold, certainly the lying pen of the scribes hath made it falsehood.

9 L os sabios se avergonzaron, se espantaron y fueron presos; he aquí que aborrecieron la palabra del SEÑOR; ¿y qué sabiduría tienen?

The wise men are ashamed, they are dismayed and taken: behold, they have rejected Jehovah's word; and what wisdom is in them?

10 P or tanto, daré a otros sus mujeres, y sus heredades a quien las heredará, porque desde el chico hasta el grande cada uno sigue la avaricia; desde el profeta hasta el sacerdote todos practican el engaño.

Therefore will I give their wives unto others, their fields to those that shall possess; for every one, from the least even unto the greatest, is given to covetousness; from the prophet even unto the priest, every one dealeth falsely.

11 Y curaron el quebrantamiento de la hija de mi pueblo con liviandad, diciendo: Paz, paz; y no hay paz.

And they have healed the breach of the daughter of my people lightly, saying, Peace, peace! when there is no peace.

12 ¿ Se han avergonzado de haber hecho abominación? Por cierto no se han corrido de vergüenza, ni supieron avergonzarse; caerán, por tanto, entre los que cayeren, cuando los visitare, caerán, dice el SEÑOR.

Are they ashamed that they have committed abomination? Nay, they are not at all ashamed, and they know not how to blush. Therefore shall they fall among them that fall: in the time of their visitation they shall stumble, saith Jehovah.

13 L os cortaré del todo, dijo el SEÑOR. No hay uvas en la vid, ni higos en la higuera, y se caerá la hoja; y lo que les he dado pasará de ellos.

I will utterly take them away, saith Jehovah: there are no grapes on the vine, nor figs on the fig-tree; and the leaf is faded: and I will give them up to those that shall pass over them.

14 ¿ Sobre qué nos aseguramos? Juntaos, y entrémonos en las ciudades fuertes, y allí quedaremos quietos; porque el SEÑOR nuestro Dios nos ha hecho callar, y nos dio a beber bebida de hiel, porque pecamos contra el SEÑOR.

Why do we sit still? Assemble yourselves, and let us enter into the fenced cities, and let us be silent there: for Jehovah our God hath put us to silence, and given us water of gall to drink, because we have sinned against Jehovah.

15 E speramos paz, y no hubo bien; día de cura, y he aquí turbación.

Peace is looked for, and there is no good; a time of healing, and behold, terror.

16 D esde Dan se oyó el bufido de sus caballos; del sonido de los relinchos de sus fuertes tembló toda la tierra; y vinieron y devoraron la tierra y su abundancia, ciudad y moradores de ella.

The snorting of his horses is heard from Dan: the whole land trembleth at the sound of the neighing of his steeds, and they come, and devour the land, and all it contains, the city and those that dwell therein.

17 P orque he aquí que yo envío sobre vosotros serpientes, basiliscos, contra los cuales no hay encantamiento; y os morderán, dijo el SEÑOR.

For behold, I send among you serpents, vipers against which there is no charm, and they shall bite you, saith Jehovah.

18 A causa de mi fuerte dolor, mi corazón desfallece en mí.

My comfort in my sadness! my heart is faint in me!

19 H e aquí voz del clamor de la hija de mi pueblo, que viene de la tierra lejana: ¿No está el SEÑOR en Sion? ¿No está en ella su Rey? ¿Por qué me hicieron airar con sus imágenes de talla, con vanidades de dios ajeno?

Behold the voice of the cry of the daughter of my people, from a very far country: Is not Jehovah in Zion? Is not her king in her? Why have they provoked me to anger with their graven images, with foreign vanities?

20 S e pasó la siega, se acabó el verano, y nosotros no hemos sido salvos.

The harvest is past, the summer is ended, and we are not saved.

21 Q uebrantado estoy por el quebrantamiento de la hija de mi pueblo; entenebrecido estoy, espanto me ha arrebatado.

—For the breach of the daughter of my people am I crushed; I go mourning; astonishment hath taken hold of me.

22 ¿ No hay bálsamo en Galaad? ¿No hay allí médico? ¿Por qué, pues, no hubo medicina para la hija de mi pueblo?

Is there no balm in Gilead? is there no physician there? Why then is there no dressing applied for the healing of the daughter of my people?
