1 D espués de estas cosas, el rey Asuero engrandeció a Amán hijo de Hamedata agagueo, y lo ensalzó, y puso su silla sobre todos los príncipes que estaban con él.

After these things king Ahasuerus promoted Haman the son of Hammedatha the Agagite, and advanced him, and set his seat above all the princes that were with him.

2 Y todos los siervos del rey que estaban a la puerta del rey, se arrodillaban y adoraban a Amán, porque así lo había mandado el rey; pero Mardoqueo, ni se arrodillaba, ni lo adoraba.

And all the king's servants that were in the king's gate bowed and did Haman reverence, for the king had so commanded concerning him. But Mordecai bowed not, nor did reverence.

3 Y los siervos del rey que estaban a la puerta, dijeron a Mardoqueo: ¿Por qué traspasas el mandamiento del rey?

Then the king's servants, who were in the king's gate, said to Mordecai, Why transgressest thou the king's commandment?

4 Y aconteció que, hablándole cada día de esta manera, y no escuchándolos él, lo denunciaron a Amán, por ver si la palabra de Mardoqueo se mantendría firme; porque ya él les había declarado que era judío.

And it came to pass as they spoke daily to him, and he hearkened not to them, that they informed Haman, to see whether Mordecai's matters would stand; for he had told them that he was a Jew.

5 Y vio Amán que Mardoqueo ni se arrodillaba ni se humillaba delante de él; y se llenó de ira.

And when Haman saw that Mordecai bowed not, nor did him reverence, Haman was full of fury.

6 M as tuvo en poco meter mano en solo Mardoqueo; que ya le había declarado el pueblo de Mardoqueo; y procuró Amán destruir a todos los judíos que había en el reino de Asuero; al pueblo de Mardoqueo.

But he scorned to lay hands on Mordecai alone; for they had made known to him the people of Mordecai; therefore Haman sought to destroy all the Jews that were in all the kingdom of Ahasuerus—the people of Mordecai.

7 E n el mes primero, que es el mes de Nisán, en el año duodécimo del rey Asuero, fue echada Pur, esto es, la suerte, delante de Amán, de día en día y de mes en mes; y salió el mes duodécimo, que es el mes de Adar.

In the first month, that is, the month Nisan, in the twelfth year of king Ahasuerus, they cast Pur, that is, the lot, before Haman for each day and for each month, to the twelfth, that is, the month Adar.

8 Y dijo Amán al rey Asuero: Hay un pueblo esparcido y dividido entre los pueblos en todas las provincias de tu reino, y sus leyes son diferentes de las de todo pueblo, y no observan las leyes del rey; y al rey no viene provecho de dejarlos.

And Haman said to king Ahasuerus, There is a people scattered abroad and dispersed among the peoples in all the provinces of thy kingdom; and their laws are diverse from every people, and they keep not the king's laws; and it is not for the king's profit to suffer them.

9 S i place al rey, escríbase que sean destruidos; y yo pesaré diez mil talentos de plata en manos de los que manejan la hacienda, para que sean traídos a los tesoros del rey.

If it please the king, let it be written that they may be destroyed, and I will pay ten thousand talents of silver into the hands of those that have charge of the affairs, to bring into the king's treasuries.

10 E ntonces el rey quitó su anillo de su mano, y lo dio a Amán hijo de Hamedata agagueo, enemigo de los judíos,

And the king took his ring from his hand, and gave it to Haman the son of Hammedatha the Agagite, the Jews' enemy.

11 y le dijo: La plata propuesta sea para ti, y asimismo el pueblo, para que hagas de él lo que bien te pareciere.

And the king said to Haman, The silver is given to thee, the people also, to do with them as seems good to thee.

12 E ntonces fueron llamados los escribanos del rey en el mes primero, al trece del mismo, y fue escrito conforme a todo lo que mandó Amán, a los virreyes del rey, a los capitanes que estaban sobre cada provincia, y a los príncipes de cada pueblo, a cada provincia según su escritura, y a cada pueblo según su lengua; en nombre del rey Asuero fue escrito, y sellado con el anillo del rey.

Then were the king's scribes called, in the first month, on the thirteenth day of the, and there was written according to all that Haman commanded unto the king's satraps, and to the governors over every province, and to the princes of every people; to every province according to the writing thereof, and to every people according to their language: in the name of king Ahasuerus was it written, and sealed with the king's ring.

13 Y fueron enviadas cartas por mano de los correos a todas las provincias del rey, para destruir, matar, y echar a perder a todos los judíos, desde el niño hasta el viejo, niños y mujeres en un día, en el trece del mes duodécimo, que es el mes de Adar, y para apoderarse de su despojo.

And the letters were sent by couriers into all the king's provinces, to destroy, to kill, and to cause to perish, all Jews, both young and old, little children and women, in one day, upon the thirteenth of the twelfth month, that is, the month Adar, and the spoil of them for a prey.

14 L a copia del escrito que se diera por ley en cada provincia, que fuera manifiesto a todos los pueblos, a fin de que estuvieran apercibidos para aquel día.

That the decree might be given in every province, a copy of the writing was published to all peoples, that they should be ready against that day.

15 Y salieron los correos de prisa por mandato del rey, y la ley fue dada en Susa, el palacio. Y el rey y Amán se sentaban a beber, y la ciudad de Susa estaba alborotada.

The couriers went out, being hastened by the king's commandment, and the decree was given in Shushan the fortress. And the king and Haman sat down to drink; but the city of Shushan was in consternation.
