1 V iaţa Sarei a fost de o sută douăzeci şi şapte de ani: aceştia sînt anii vieţii Sarei.

And the life of Sarah was a hundred and twenty-seven years: the years of the life of Sarah.

2 S ara a murit la Chiriat-Arba, adică Hebron, în ţara Canaan; şi Avraam a venit să jălească pe Sara şi s'o plîngă.

And Sarah died in Kirjath-Arba: that is Hebron, in the land of Canaan. And Abraham came to mourn for Sarah, and to weep for her.

3 A vraam s'a sculat apoi dinaintea moartei sale, şi a vorbit astfel fiilor lui Het:

And Abraham rose up from before his dead, and spoke to the sons of Heth, saying,

4 E u sînt străin şi venetic printre voi, daţi-mi un ogor, ca loc de îngropare la voi, ca să-mi îngrop moarta şi s'o ridic dinaintea mea.``

I am a stranger and a sojourner with you; give me a possession of a sepulchre with you, that I may bury my dead from before me.

5 F iii lui Het au răspuns astfel lui Avraam:

And the sons of Heth answered Abraham, saying to him,

6 A scultă-ne, domnule! Tu eşti ca un domnitor al lui Dumnezeu în mijlocul nostru; îngroapă-ţi moarta în cel mai bun din mormintele noastre! Niciunul din noi nu te va opri să-ţi îngropi moarta în mormîntul lui.``

Hear us, my lord: thou art a prince of God among us: in the choicest of our sepulchres bury thy dead: none of us shall withhold from thee his sepulchre for burying thy dead.

7 A vraam s'a sculat şi s'a aruncat cu faţa la pămînt înaintea norodului ţării, adică înaintea fiilor lui Het.

And Abraham rose up, and bowed down to the people of the land, to the sons of Heth,

8 Ş i le -a vorbit astfel:,, Dacă găsiţi cu cale să-mi îngrop moarta şi s'o iau dinaintea ochilor mei, ascultaţi-mă, şi rugaţi pentru mine pe Efron, fiul lui Ţohar,

and spoke to them, saying, If it be your will that I should bury my dead from before me, hear me, and entreat for me Ephron the son of Zohar,

9 s ă-mi dea peştera Macpela, care -i a lui, şi care este chiar la marginea ogorului lui; să mi -o dea în schimbul preţului ei, ca să-mi slujească drept loc pentru îngropare în mijlocul vostru.``

that he may give me the cave of Machpelah, which is his, which is at the end of his field; for the full money let him give it to me amongst you for a possession of a sepulchre.

10 E fron era şi el acolo în mijlocul fiilor lui Het. Şi Efron, Hetitul, a răspuns lui Avraam, în auzul fiilor lui Het şi în auzul tuturor celor ce treceau pe poarta cetăţii:

And Ephron was dwelling among the sons of Heth. And Ephron the Hittite answered Abraham, in the ears of the sons of Heth, of all that went in at the gate of his city, saying,

11 N u, domnul meu, ascultă-mă! Îţi dăruiesc ogorul şi-ţi dăruiesc şi peştera care este în el. Ţi le dăruiesc în faţa fiilor norodului meu: şi îngroapă-ţi moarta.``

No, my lord: hear me. The field give I thee; and the cave that is in it, to thee I give it; before the eyes of the sons of my people give I it thee: bury thy dead.

12 A vraam s'a aruncat cu faţa la pămînt înaintea norodului ţării.

And Abraham bowed down before the people of the land;

13 Ş i a vorbit astfel lui Efron, în auzul norodului ţării:,, Ascultă-mă, te rog! Îţi dau preţul ogorului: primeşte -l dela mine; şi-mi voi îngropa moarta în el.``

and he spoke to Ephron, in the ears of the people of the land, saying, But if only thou wouldst listen to me, I give the money for the field: take of me, and I will bury my dead there.

14 Ş i Efron a răspuns astfel lui Avraam:

And Ephron answered Abraham, saying to him,

15 D omnul meu, ascultă-mă! O bucată de pămînt de patru sute de sicli de argint, ce este aceasta între mine şi tine? Îngroapă-ţi dar moarta!``

My lord, hearken to me. A field of four hundred shekels of silver, what is that between me and thee? bury therefore thy dead.

16 A vraam a înţeles pe Efron. Şi Avraam a cîntărit lui Efron preţul cumpărării despre care vorbise, în faţa fiilor lui Het: patru sute de sicli de argint, cari mergeau la orice negustor.

And Abraham hearkened to Ephron; and Abraham weighed to Ephron the money that he had named in the ears of the sons of Heth—four hundred shekels of silver, current with the merchant.

17 O gorul lui Efron din Macpela, care este faţă în faţă cu Mamre, ogorul şi peştera din el, şi toţi copacii cari se aflau în ogor şi în toate hotarele lui dejur împrejur,

So the field of Ephron, which was at Machpelah, which was before Mamre, the field, and the cave that was in it, and all the trees that were in the field, that were in all its borders round about,

18 a u fost întărite astfel ca moşie a lui Avraam, în faţa fiilor lui Het şi a tuturor celor ce treceau pe poarta cetăţii.

were assured to Abraham for a possession before the eyes of the sons of Heth, before all who went in at the gate of his city.

19 D upă aceea, Avraam a îngropat pe Sara, nevastă-sa, în peştera din ogorul Macpela, care este faţă în faţă cu Mamre, adică Hebron, în ţara Canaan.

And after this, Abraham buried Sarah his wife in the cave of the field at Machpelah, opposite to Mamre: that is Hebron, in the land of Canaan.

20 O gorul şi peştera din el au fost întărite astfel lui Avraam ca ogor pentru înmormîntare, de către fiii lui Het.

And the field and the cave that was in it were assured to Abraham for a possession of a sepulchre by the sons of Heth.
