1 C înd doi oameni vor avea o ceartă între ei, şi se vor înfăţişa înaintea judecăţii ca să fie judecaţi, celui nevinovat să -i dea drumul, iar pe cel vinovat să -l osîndească.

If there be a controversy between men, and they resort to judgment, and they judge; then they shall justify the righteous, and condemn the wicked.

2 D acă cel vinovat este osîndit să fie bătut, judecătorul să pună să -l întindă la pămînt şi să -i dea în faţa lui un număr de lovituri potrivit cu greutatea vinei lui.

And it shall be if the wicked man have deserved to be beaten, that the judge shall cause him to lie down, and be beaten before his face, according to the measure of his wickedness with a certain number.

3 S ă nu pună să -i dea mai mult de patruzeci de lovituri, ca nu cumva, dîndu -i mai multe lovituri decît atît, fratele tău să fie înjosit înaintea ta.

With forty shall they beat him; they shall not exceed, lest, if they continue to beat him with many stripes above these, thy brother become despicable in thine eyes.

4 S ă nu legi gura boului, cînd treieră grîul.

Thou shalt not muzzle the ox when he treadeth out.

5 C înd fraţii vor locui împreună, şi unul din ei va muri fără să lase copii, nevasta mortului să nu se mărite afară cu un străin, ci cumnatul ei să se ducă la ea, s'o ia de nevastă, şi să se însoare cu ea ca cumnat.

If brethren dwell together, and one of them die, and have no son, the wife of the dead shall not marry a stranger abroad: her husband's brother shall go in unto her, and take her to him as wife, and perform the duty of a husband's brother unto her.

6 Î ntîiul născut, pe care -l va naşte, să moştenească pe fratele cel mort şi să -i poarte numele, pentruca numele acesta să nu fie şters din Israel.

And it shall be, that the firstborn that she beareth shall stand in the name of his brother who is dead, that his name be not blotted out from Israel.

7 D acă omul acesta nu vrea să ia pe cumnată-sa, ea să se suie la poarta cetăţii, la bătrîni, şi să spună:,, Cumnatul-meu nu vrea să ridice în Israel numele fratelui său, nu vrea să mă ia de nevastă după dreptul de cumnat.``

But if the man like not to take his brother's wife, his brother's wife shall go up to the gate unto the elders, and say, My husband's brother refuseth to raise up unto his brother a name in Israel: he will not perform for me the duty of a husband's brother.

8 B ătrînii cetăţii să -l cheme, şi să -i vorbească. Dacă el stăruieşte, şi zice:,, Nu vreau s'o iau,``

Then the elders of his city shall call him and speak unto him; and if he stand to it and say, I like not to take her;

9 a tunci cumnată-sa să se apropie de el în faţa bătrînilor, să -i scoată încălţămintea din picior, şi să -l scuipe în faţă. Şi luînd cuvîntul, să zică:,, Aşa să se facă omului care nu voieşte să ridice casa fratelui său.``

then shall his brother's wife come near to him before the eyes of the elders, and draw his sandal from his foot, and spit in his face, and shall answer and say, So shall it be done unto the man that will not build up his brother's house.

10 Ş i casa lui se va numi în Israel,, casa celui descălţat``.

And his name shall be called in Israel, The house of him that hath his shoe drawn off.

11 C înd doi oameni se vor certa unul cu altul, şi nevasta unuia se va apropia să scoată pe bărbatul său din mîna celui ce -l loveşte, dacă întinde mîna şi apucă pe acesta din urmă de părţile ruşinoase,

When men fight together one with another, and the wife of the one come near to rescue her husband out of the hand of him that smiteth him, and stretch out her hand, and seize him by his secret parts,

12 s ă -i tai mîna: să n'ai nicio milă de ea.

thou shalt cut off her hand; thine eye shall not spare.

13 S ă n'ai în sacul tău două feluri de greutăţi, una mare şi alta mică.

Thou shalt not have in thy bag divers weights, a great and a small.

14 S ă n'ai în casă două feluri de efă, una mare şi alta mică.

Thou shalt not have in thy house divers ephahs, a great and a small.

15 C i să ai o greutate adevărată şi dreaptă, să ai o efă adevărată şi dreaptă, pentruca să ai zile multe în ţara pe care ţi -o dă Domnul, Dumnezeul tău.

A perfect and just weight shalt thou have; a perfect and just ephah shalt thou have; that thy days may be prolonged in the land that Jehovah thy God giveth thee.

16 C ăci oricine face aceste lucruri, oricine săvîrşeşte o nedreptate, este o urîciune înaintea Domnului, Dumnezeului tău.

For every one that doeth such things, every one that doeth unrighteousness, is an abomination to Jehovah thy God.

17 A du-ţi aminte ce ţi -a făcut Amalec pe drum, la ieşirea voastră din Egipt:

Remember what Amalek did unto thee on the way, when ye came forth out of Egypt;

18 c um te -a întîlnit pe drum, şi, fără nici o teamă de Dumnezeu, s'a aruncat asupra ta pe dinapoi, asupra tuturor celor ce se tîrau la coadă, cînd erai obosit şi sleit de puteri.

how he met thee on the way, and smote the hindmost of thee, all the feeble that lagged behind thee, when thou wast faint and weary, and he feared not God.

19 C înd îţi va da Domnul, Dumnezeul tău, odihnă, după ce te va izbăvi de toţi vrăjmaşii cari te înconjoară, în ţara pe care Domnul, Dumnezeul tău, ţi -o dă ca moştenire şi spre stăpînire, să ştergi pomenirea lui Amalec de subt ceruri: să nu uiţi lucrul acesta.

And it shall be, when Jehovah thy God shall have given thee rest from all thine enemies round about, in the land that Jehovah thy God giveth thee for an inheritance to possess it, that thou shalt blot out the remembrance of Amalek from under the heavens; thou shalt not forget it.
