1 M 'am dus la locul meu de strajă, şi stam pe turn ca să veghez şi să văd ce are să-mi spună Domnul, şi ce-mi va răspunde la plîngerea mea.

I will stand upon my watch, and set me upon the tower, and will look forth to see what he will say unto me, and what I shall answer as to my reproof.

2 D omnul mi -a răspuns, şi a zis:,, Scrie proorocia, şi sapă -o pe table, ca să se poată citi uşor!

And Jehovah answered me and said, Write the vision, and engrave it upon tablets, that he may run that readeth it.

3 C ăci este o proorocie, a cărei vreme este hotărîtă, se apropie de împlinire, şi nu va minţi; dacă zăboveşte, aşteaptă -o, căci va veni şi se va împlini negreşit.

For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but it hasteth to the end, and shall not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; for it will surely come, it will not delay.

4 I ată, i s'a îngîmfat sufletul, nu este fără prihană în el; dar cel neprihănit va trăi prin credinţa lui.

Behold, his soul is puffed up, it is not upright within him: but the just shall live by his faith.

5 C a şi cel beat şi semeţ, cel mîndru nu stă liniştit; ci îşi lărgeşte gura ca locuinţa morţilor, este nesăţios ca moartea aşa că pe toate neamurile vrea să le strîngă la el, şi toate popoarele le trage la el.

And moreover, the wine is treacherous: he is a proud man, and keepeth not at rest, he enlargeth his desire as Sheol, and he is like death and cannot be satisfied; and he assembleth unto him all nations, and gathereth unto him all peoples.

6 N u va fi el de batjocura tuturor acestora, de rîs şi de pomină? Se va zice:,, Vai de cel ce adună ce nu este al lui! Pînă cînd se va împovăra cu datorii?

Shall not all these take up a proverb about him, and a taunting riddle against him, and say, Woe to him that increaseth that which is not his! how long?—and to him that loadeth himself with pledges!

7 N u se vor ridica deodată ceice te-au împrumutat? Nu se vor trezi asupritorii tăi, şi vei ajunge prada lor?

Shall they not rise up suddenly that shall bite thee, and they awake up that shall vex thee, and thou shalt be for booties unto them?

8 F iindcă ai jăfuit multe neamuri, toată rămăşiţa popoarelor te va jăfui, din pricina vărsării sîngelui oamenilor, din pricina sîlniciilor făcute în ţară şi împotriva cetăţii tuturor locuitorilor ei.``

Because thou hast plundered many nations, all the rest of the peoples shall plunder thee; because of men's blood, and for the violence to the land, to the city, and all that dwell therein.

9 V ai de cel ce strînge cîştiguri nelegiuite pentru casa lui, ca să-şi aşeze apoi cuibul într'un loc înalt, şi să scape din mîna nenorocirii!

Woe to him that getteth iniquitous gain to his house, that he may set his nest on high, that he may be delivered from the grasp of evil!

10 R uşinea casei tale ţi-ai croit, nimicind o mulţime de popoare, şi împotriva ta însuţi ai păcătuit.

Thou hast devised shame to thy house, by cutting off many peoples, and hast sinned against thine own soul.

11 C ăci piatra din mijlocul zidului strigă, şi lemnul care leagă grinda îi răspunde.

For the stone shall cry out of the wall, and the beam out of the timber shall answer it.

12 V ai de cel ce zideşte o cetate cu sînge, care întemeiază o cetate cu nelegiuire!

Woe to him that buildeth a town with blood, and establisheth a city by unrighteousness!

13 I ată, cînd Domnul oştirilor a hotărît lucrul acesta, popoarele se ostenesc pentru foc, şi neamurile se trudesc degeaba.

Behold, is it not of Jehovah of hosts that the peoples labour for the fire, and the nations weary themselves in vain?

14 C ăci pămîntul va fi plin de cunoştinţa salvei Domnului, ca fundul mării de apele cari -l acopăr.

For the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the glory of Jehovah as the waters cover the sea.

15 V ai de cel ce dă aproapelui său să bea, vai de tine care îi torni băutură spumoasă şi -l ameţeşti, ca să -i vezi goliciunea!

Woe unto him that giveth his neighbour drink,—that pourest out thy flask, and makest drunken also, that thou mayest look on their nakedness!

16 T e vei sătura de ruşine în loc de slavă; bea şi tu, şi desveleşte-te! Îţi va veni şi ţie rîndul să iei paharul din dreapta Domnului, şi va veni ruşinea peste slava ta.

Thou art filled with shame instead of glory; drink thou also, and let thy foreskin be uncovered: the cup of Jehovah's right hand shall be turned unto thee, and a shameful spewing shall be on thy glory.

17 C ăci sîlniciile făcute împotriva Libanului vor cădea asupra ta, şi pustiirile fiarelor te vor îngrozi, pentru vărsarea sîngelui oamenilor, şi sîlniciile făcute în ţară, împotriva cetăţii şi împoriva tuturor locuitorilor ei.

For the violence to Lebanon shall cover thee, and the destruction of beasts which made them afraid; because of men's blood, and for the violence to the land, to the city, and all that dwell therein.

18 L a ce ar putea folosi un chip cioplit, pe care -l ciopleşte lucrătorul? La ce ar putea folosi un chip turnat, care învaţă pe oameni minciuni, pentru ca lucrătorul care l -a făcut să-şi pună încrederea în el, pe cînd el făureşte numai nişte idoli muţi?

What profiteth the graven image that the maker thereof hath graven it? the molten image, and the teacher of falsehood, that the maker of his work dependeth thereon, to make dumb idols?

19 V ai de celce zice lemnului:,, Scoală-te``, şi unei pietre mute:,, Trezeşte-te``! Poate ea să dea învăţătură? Iată că este împodobită cu aur şi argint, dar în ea nu este un duh care s'o însufleţească.

Woe unto him that saith to the wood, Awake! to the dumb stone, Arise! Shall it teach? Behold it is overlaid with gold and silver, and there is no breath at all in the midst of it.

20 D omnul însă este în Templul Lui cel sfînt. Tot pămîntul să tacă înaintea Lui!

But Jehovah is in his holy temple. Let all the earth keep silence before him!
