1 A m zis:,, Ascultaţi, căpetenii ale lui Iacov, şi mai mari ai casei lui Israel! Nu este datoria voastră să cunoaşteţi dreptatea?

And I said, Hear, I pray you, ye heads of Jacob, and princes of the house of Israel: Is it not for you to know judgment?

2 Ş i totuş voi urîţi binele şi iubiţi răul, le jupuiţi pielea şi carnea de pe oase!

Ye who hate the good, and love evil; who pluck off their skin from them, and their flesh from off their bones;

3 D upă ce au mîncat carnea poporului Meu, după ce -i jupoaie pielea, şi -i sfărîmă oasele; îl fac bucăţi; ca ceeace se fierbe într'o oală, ca şi carnea dintr'un cazan,

and who eat the flesh of my people, and flay their skin from off them, and break their bones, and chop them in pieces as for the pot, and as flesh within the cauldron.

4 a poi strigă către Domnul. Dar El nu le răspunde, ci Îşi ascunde Faţa de ei în vremea aceea, pentru că au făcut fapte rele.

Then shall they cry unto Jehovah, but he will not answer them; and he will hide his face from them at that time, according as they have wrought evil in their doings.

5 A şa vorbeşte Domnul despre proorocii cari rătăcesc pe poporul meu, cari, dacă au de muşcat ceva cu dinţii, vestesc pacea, iar dacă nu li se pune nimic în gură, vestesc războiul sfînt:

Thus saith Jehovah concerning the prophets that cause my people to err, that bite with their teeth, and cry, Peace! but whoso putteth not into their mouths they prepare war against him:

6 D in pricina aceasta, va veni noaptea peste voi... fără nici o vedenie! Şi întunerecul... fără nici o proorocie! Soarele va asfinţi peste aceşti prooroci, şi ziua se va întuneca peste ei!

therefore ye shall have night without a vision; and it shall be dark unto you, without divination; and the sun shall go down upon the prophets, and the day shall be black over them.

7 V ăzătorii vor fi daţi de ruşine, ghicitorii vor roşi, toţi îşi vor acoperi barba; căci Dumnezeu nu va răspunde.

And the seers shall be ashamed, and the diviners confounded; and they shall all cover their lips, for there will be no answer of God.

8 D ar eu sînt plin de putere, plin de Duhul Domnului, sînt plin de cunoştinţa dreptăţii şi de vlagă, ca să fac cunoscut lui Iacov nelegiuirea lui, şi lui Israel păcatul lui.``

But truly I am filled with power by the Spirit of Jehovah, and with judgment and with might, to declare unto Jacob his transgression, and to Israel his sin.

9 A scultaţi dar lucrul acesta, căpetenii ale casei lui Iacov, şi mai mari ai casei lui Israel, voi, cărora vă este scîrbă de dreptate, şi cari suciţi tot ce este drept;

Hear this, I pray you, ye heads of the house of Jacob, and princes of the house of Israel, that abhor judgment, and pervert all equity,

10 V oi cari zidiţi Sionul cu sînge, şi Ierusalimul cu nelegiuire!

that build up Zion with blood, and Jerusalem with unrighteousness.

11 C ăpeteniile cetăţii judecă pentru daruri, preoţii lui învaţă pe popor pentru plată, şi proorocii lui proorocesc pe bani; şi mai îndrăznesc apoi să se bizuie pe Domnul şi zic:,, Oare nu este Domnul în mijlocul nostru? Nu ne poate atinge nici o nenorocire!``

The heads thereof judge for reward, and the priests thereof teach for hire, and the prophets thereof divine for money; yet do they lean upon Jehovah, and say, Is not Jehovah in the midst of us? no evil shall come upon us.

12 D e aceea, din pricina voastră, Sionul va fi arat ca un ogor, Ierusalimul va ajunge un morman de pietre, şi muntele Templului o înălţime acoperită de păduri.

Therefore shall Zion for your sake be ploughed a field, and Jerusalem shall become heaps, and the mountain of the house as the high places of a forest.
