1 A vram s'a suit din Egipt în ţara dela meazăzi, el, nevastă-sa, şi tot ce avea, împreună cu Lot.

And Abram went up out of Egypt, he, and his wife, and all that he had, and Lot with him, towards the south.

2 A vram era foarte bogat în vite, în argint, şi în aur.

And Abram was very rich in cattle, in silver, and in gold.

3 D in ţara dela meazăzi s'a îndreptat şi a mers pînă la Betel, pînă la locul unde fusese cortul lui la început, între Betel şi Ai,

And he went on his journeys from the south as far as Bethel; as far as the place where his tent had been at the beginning, between Bethel and Ai;

4 î n locul unde era altarul, pe care -l făcuse mai înainte. Şi acolo, Avram a chemat Numele Domnului.

to the place of the altar that he had made there at the first. And there Abram called on the name of Jehovah.

5 L ot, care călătorea împreună cu Avram, avea şi el oi, boi şi corturi.

And Lot also who went with Abram had flocks, and herds, and tents.

6 Ş i ţinutul acela nu -i încăpea să locuiască împreună; căci averile lor erau aşa de mari, încît nu puteau să locuiască împreună.

And the land could not support them, that they might dwell together, for their property was great; and they could not dwell together.

7 S 'a iscat o ceartă între păzitorii vitelor lui Avram şi păzitorii vitelor lui Lot. Cananiţii şi Feresiţii locuiau atunci în ţară.

And there was strife between the herdsmen of Abram's cattle and the herdsmen of Lot's cattle. And the Canaanite and the Perizzite were dwelling then in the land.

8 A vram a zis lui Lot:,, Te rog, să nu fie ceartă între mine şi tine, şi între păzitorii mei şi păzitorii tăi, căci sîntem fraţi.

And Abram said to Lot, I pray thee let there be no contention between me and thee, and between my herdsmen and thy herdsmen, for we are brethren.

9 N u -i oare toată ţara înaintea ta? Mai bine desparte-te de mine: dacă apuci tu la stînga, eu voi apuca la dreapta; dacă apuci tu la dreapta, eu voi apuca la stînga.``

Is not the whole land before thee? Separate thyself, I pray thee, from me: if to the left, then I will take the right; and if to the right, then I will take the left.

10 L ot şi -a ridicat ochii, şi a văzut că toată Cîmpia Iordanului era bine udată în întregime. Înainte de a nimici Domnul Sodoma şi Gomora, pînă la Ţoar, era ca o grădină a Domnului, ca ţara Egiptului.

And Lot lifted up his eyes, and beheld all the plain of the Jordan that it was thoroughly watered, before Jehovah had destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah; as the garden of Jehovah, like the land of Egypt, as one goes to Zoar.

11 L ot şi -a ales toată Cîmpia Iordanului, şi a mers spre răsărit. Astfel s'au despărţit ei unul de altul.

And Lot chose for himself all the plain of the Jordan; and Lot went toward the east. And they separated the one from the other:

12 A vram a locuit în ţara Canaan, iar Lot a locuit în cetăţile din Cîmpie, şi şi -a întins corturile pînă la Sodoma.

Abram dwelt in the land of Canaan; and Lot dwelt in the cities of the plain, and pitched tents as far as Sodom.

13 O amenii din Sodoma erau răi, şi afară din cale de păcătoşi împotriva Domnului.

And the people of Sodom were wicked, and great sinners before Jehovah.

14 D omnul a zis lui Avram, după ce s'a despărţit Lot de el:,, Ridică-ţi ochii, şi, din locul în care eşti, priveşte spre mează noapte şi spre mează zi, spre răsărit şi spre apus;

And Jehovah said to Abram, after that Lot had separated himself from him, Lift up now thine eyes, and look from the place where thou art, northward and southward and eastward and westward;

15 c ăci toată ţara pe care o vezi, ţi -o da ţie şi seminţei tale în veac.

for all the land that thou seest will I give to thee, and to thy seed for ever.

16 Î ţi voi face sămînţa ca pulberea pămîntului de mare; aşa că, dacă poate număra cineva pulberea pămîntului, şi sămînţa ta va putea să fie numărată.

And I will make thy seed as the dust of the earth, so that if any one can number the dust of the earth, thy seed also will be numbered.

17 S coală-te, străbate ţara în lung şi în lat; căci ţie ţi -o voi da``.

Arise, walk through the land according to the length of it and according to the breadth of it; for I will give it to thee.

18 A vram şi -a ridicat corturile, şi a venit de a locuit lîngă stejarii lui Mamre, cari sînt lîngă Hebron. Şi acolo a zidit un altar Domnului.

Then Abram moved tents, and came and dwelt by the oaks of Mamre, which are in Hebron. And he built there an altar to Jehovah.
