1 S ubió, pues, Abram de Egipto hacia el Neguev, con su mujer y con todo lo que tenía, y con él iba Lot.

And Abram went up out of Egypt, he, and his wife, and all that he had, and Lot with him, towards the south.

2 A bram era riquísimo en ganado, y en plata y oro.

And Abram was very rich in cattle, in silver, and in gold.

3 C aminó de jornada en jornada desde el Neguev hasta Bet-el, hasta el lugar donde había estado antes su tienda, entre Bet-el y Hai,

And he went on his journeys from the south as far as Bethel; as far as the place where his tent had been at the beginning, between Bethel and Ai;

4 a l lugar del altar que antes había edificado; e invocó allí Abram el nombre de Jehová.

to the place of the altar that he had made there at the first. And there Abram called on the name of Jehovah.

5 T ambién Lot, que iba con Abram, tenía ovejas, vacas y tiendas.

And Lot also who went with Abram had flocks, and herds, and tents.

6 Y la tierra no era suficiente para que habitaran juntos, pues sus posesiones eran muchas y no podían habitar en un mismo lugar.

And the land could not support them, that they might dwell together, for their property was great; and they could not dwell together.

7 H ubo contienda entre los pastores del ganado de Abram y los pastores del ganado de Lot. (El cananeo y el ferezeo habitaban entonces en la tierra.)

And there was strife between the herdsmen of Abram's cattle and the herdsmen of Lot's cattle. And the Canaanite and the Perizzite were dwelling then in the land.

8 E ntonces Abram dijo a Lot: «No haya ahora altercado entre nosotros dos ni entre mis pastores y los tuyos, porque somos hermanos.

And Abram said to Lot, I pray thee let there be no contention between me and thee, and between my herdsmen and thy herdsmen, for we are brethren.

9 ¿ No está toda la tierra delante de ti? Yo te ruego que te apartes de mí. Si vas a la mano izquierda, yo iré a la derecha; y si a la mano derecha, yo iré a la izquierda.»

Is not the whole land before thee? Separate thyself, I pray thee, from me: if to the left, then I will take the right; and if to the right, then I will take the left.

10 A lzó Lot sus ojos y vio toda la llanura del Jordán, toda ella era de riego, como el huerto de Jehová, como la tierra de Egipto en la dirección de Zoar, antes que Jehová destruyera Sodoma y Gomorra.

And Lot lifted up his eyes, and beheld all the plain of the Jordan that it was thoroughly watered, before Jehovah had destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah; as the garden of Jehovah, like the land of Egypt, as one goes to Zoar.

11 E ntonces Lot escogió para sí toda la llanura del Jordán; se fue, pues, Lot hacia el oriente, y se apartaron el uno del otro.

And Lot chose for himself all the plain of the Jordan; and Lot went toward the east. And they separated the one from the other:

12 A bram acampó en la tierra de Canaán, en tanto que Lot habitó en las ciudades de la llanura y fue poniendo sus tiendas hasta Sodoma.

Abram dwelt in the land of Canaan; and Lot dwelt in the cities of the plain, and pitched tents as far as Sodom.

13 P ero los habitantes de Sodoma eran malos y cometían horribles pecados contra Jehová.

And the people of Sodom were wicked, and great sinners before Jehovah.

14 J ehová dijo a Abram, después que Lot se apartó de él: «Alza ahora tus ojos y, desde el lugar donde estás, mira al norte y al sur, al oriente y al occidente.

And Jehovah said to Abram, after that Lot had separated himself from him, Lift up now thine eyes, and look from the place where thou art, northward and southward and eastward and westward;

15 T oda la tierra que ves te la daré a ti y a tu descendencia para siempre.

for all the land that thou seest will I give to thee, and to thy seed for ever.

16 H aré tu descendencia como el polvo de la tierra: que si alguno puede contar el polvo de la tierra, también tu descendencia será contada.

And I will make thy seed as the dust of the earth, so that if any one can number the dust of the earth, thy seed also will be numbered.

17 L evántate y recorre la tierra a lo largo y a lo ancho, porque a ti te la daré.»

Arise, walk through the land according to the length of it and according to the breadth of it; for I will give it to thee.

18 A sí pues, Abram levantó su tienda, se fue y habitó en el encinar de Mamre, que está en Hebrón, donde edificó un altar a Jehová.

Then Abram moved tents, and came and dwelt by the oaks of Mamre, which are in Hebron. And he built there an altar to Jehovah.
