1 » Hijo mío, está atento a mi sabiduría e inclina tu oído a mi inteligencia,

My son, attend unto my wisdom, incline thine ear to my understanding;

2 p ara que guardes discreción y tus labios conserven la ciencia.

that thou mayest keep reflection, and that thy lips may preserve knowledge.

3 L os labios de la mujer extraña destilan miel y su paladar es más suave que el aceite,

For the lips of the strange woman drop honey, and her mouth is smoother than oil;

4 p ero su final es amargo como el ajenjo, agudo como espada de dos filos.

but her end is bitter as wormwood, sharp as a two-edged sword.

5 S us pies descienden a la muerte, sus pasos se dirigen al seol.

Her feet go down to death; her steps take hold on Sheol.

6 S us caminos no son firmes: no los conoce, ni considera el camino de la vida.

Lest she should ponder the path of life, her ways wander, she knoweth not.

7 » Ahora pues, hijos, escuchadme y no os apartéis de las razones de mi boca.

And now, children, hearken unto me, and depart not from the words of my mouth.

8 A leja de ella tu camino y no te acerques a la puerta de su casa,

Remove thy way far from her, and come not nigh the door of her house:

9 n o sea que des tu honor a extraños, y tus años a alguien cruel;

lest thou give thine honour unto others, and thy years unto the cruel;

10 o no sea que los extraños se sacien de tu fuerza, que tus trabajos queden en casa ajena

lest strangers be filled with thy wealth, and the fruits of thy toil into the house of a stranger;

11 y que gimas al final, cuando se consuma tu carne y todo tu cuerpo,

and thou mourn in thine end, when thy flesh and thy body are consumed;

12 y digas: “¡Cómo pude aborrecer el consejo? ¡Cómo pudo mi corazón menospreciar la reprensión?

and thou say, How have I hated instruction, and my heart despised reproof!

13 ¡ No escuché la voz de los que me instruían, ni a los que me enseñaban incliné mi oído!

and I have not hearkened unto the voice of my teachers, nor inclined mine ear to those that instructed me;

14 C asi en el colmo del mal he estado, en medio de la sociedad y de la congregación.”

I was well nigh in all evil in the midst of the congregation and assembly.

15 » Bebe el agua de tu propia cisterna, los raudales de tu propio pozo.

Drink waters out of thine own cistern, and running waters out of thine own well.

16 ¿ Acaso han de derramarse tus fuentes por las calles y tus corrientes de aguas por las plazas?

Thy fountains shall be poured forth, as water-brooks in the broadways.

17 S ean ellas para ti solo, no para los extraños que estén contigo.

Let them be only thine own, and not strangers' with thee.

18 ¡ Sea bendito tu manantial y alégrate con la mujer de tu juventud,

Let thy fountain be blessed; and have joy of the wife of thy youth.

19 c ierva amada, graciosa gacela! Que sus caricias te satisfagan en todo tiempo y recréate siempre en su amor.

As a lovely hind and a graceful roe, let her breasts satisfy thee at all times: be thou ravished continually with her love.

20 ¿ Por qué, hijo mío, has de andar ciego con la mujer ajena y abrazar el seno de la extraña?

And why shouldest thou, my son, be ravished with a strange woman, and embrace the bosom of a stranger?

21 L os caminos del hombre están ante los ojos de Jehová, y él considera todas sus veredas.

For the ways of man are before the eyes of Jehovah, and he pondereth all his paths.

22 A presarán al malvado sus propias iniquidades, retenido será con las ligaduras de su pecado.

His own iniquities shall take the wicked, and he shall be holden with the cords of his sin.

23 É l morirá por falta de disciplina y errará por lo inmenso de su locura.

He shall die for want of discipline; and in the greatness of his folly he shall go astray.
