1 A sí dijo Jehová: «¿Qué es de la carta de repudio de vuestra madre, con la cual yo la repudié? ¿O quiénes son mis acreedores, a quienes yo os he vendido? He aquí que por vuestras maldades habéis sido vendidos y por vuestras rebeliones fue repudiada vuestra madre.

Thus saith Jehovah: Where is the bill of your mother's divorce, whom I have put away? or which of my creditors is it to whom I have sold you? Behold, through your iniquities have ye sold yourselves, and for your transgressions is your mother put away.

2 ¿ Por qué cuando vine no hallé a nadie y cuando llamé nadie respondió? ¿Acaso se ha acortado mi mano para no poderos rescatar? ¿No tengo yo poder para librar? He aquí que con mi reprensión hago secar el mar, convierto los ríos en desierto, y sus peces se pudren por falta de agua y mueren de sed.

Wherefore did I come, and there was no man? I called, and there was none to answer? Is my hand at all shortened that I cannot redeem, or have I no power to deliver? behold, at my rebuke I dry up the sea, I make rivers a wilderness; their fish stink because there is no water, and die for thirst.

3 V isto de oscuridad los cielos y les pongo saco por cubierta.»

I clothe the heavens with blackness, and I make sackcloth their covering.

4 J ehová el Señor me dio lengua de sabios, para saber hablar palabras al cansado; despertará mañana tras mañana, despertará mi oído para que escuche como los sabios.

The Lord Jehovah hath given me the tongue of the instructed, that I should know how to succour by a word him that is weary. He wakeneth morning by morning, he wakeneth mine ear to hear as the instructed.

5 J ehová, el Señor, me abrió el oído, y yo no fui rebelde ni me volví atrás.

The Lord Jehovah hath opened mine ear, and I was not rebellious; I turned not away back.

6 D i mi cuerpo a los heridores y mis mejillas a los que me mesaban la barba; no aparté mi rostro de injurias y de esputos.

I gave my back to smiters, and my cheeks to them that plucked off the hair; I hid not my face from shame and spitting.

7 P orque Jehová, el Señor, me ayuda, no me avergoncé; por eso he puesto mi rostro como un pedernal, y sé que no seré avergonzado.

But the Lord Jehovah will help me: therefore shall I not be confounded; therefore have I set my face like a flint, and I know that I shall not be ashamed.

8 M uy cerca de mí está el que me salva: ¿quién contenderá conmigo? ¡Juntémonos! ¿Quién es el adversario de mi causa? ¡Acérquese a mí!

He is near that justifieth me: who will contend with me? let us stand together; who is mine adverse party? let him draw near unto me.

9 H e aquí que Jehová el Señor me ayudará: ¿quién podrá condenarme? He aquí que todos ellos se envejecerán como ropa de vestir, serán comidos por la polilla.

Behold, the Lord Jehovah will help me; who is he that shall condemn me? Behold, they all shall grow old as a garment; the moth shall eat them up.

10 ¿ Quién de entre vosotros teme a Jehová y escucha la voz de su siervo? El que anda en tinieblas y carece de luz, confíe en el nombre de Jehová y apóyese en su Dios.

Who is among you that feareth Jehovah, that hearkeneth to the voice of his servant? he that walketh in darkness, and hath no light,—let him confide in the name of Jehovah, and stay himself upon his God.

11 H e aquí que todos vosotros encendéis fuego, os rodeáis de teas: pues andad a la luz de vuestro fuego y de las teas que encendisteis. De mi mano os vendrá esto: en dolor seréis sepultados.

Behold, all ye that kindle a fire, that compass yourselves about with sparks: walk in the light of your fire, and among the sparks ye have kindled. This shall ye have of my hand: ye shall lie down in sorrow.
