1 L os hijos de Israel volvieron a hacer lo malo ante los ojos de Jehová, y Jehová los entregó en manos de los filisteos por cuarenta años.

And the children of Israel again did evil in the sight of Jehovah; and Jehovah gave them into the hand of the Philistines forty years.

2 E n Zora, de la tribu de Dan, había un hombre que se llamaba Manoa. Su mujer nunca había tenido hijos, porque era estéril.

And there was a certain man of Zoreah, of the family of the Danites, and his name was Manoah. And his wife was barren and did not bear.

3 A esta mujer se le apareció el ángel de Jehová y le dijo: «Tú eres estéril y nunca has tenido hijos, pero concebirás y darás a luz un hijo.

And the Angel of Jehovah appeared to the woman, and said to her, Behold now, thou art barren and bearest not; but thou shalt conceive and bear a son.

4 A hora, pues, no bebas vino ni sidra, ni comas cosa inmunda,

And now beware, I pray thee, and drink not wine nor strong drink, and eat nothing unclean.

5 p ues concebirás y darás a luz un hijo. No pasará navaja sobre su cabeza, porque el niño será nazareo para Dios desde su nacimiento, y comenzará a salvar a Israel de manos de los filisteos.»

For lo, thou shalt conceive, and bear a son, and no razor shall come on his head; for the boy shall be a Nazarite of God from the womb; and he shall begin to save Israel out of the hand of the Philistines.

6 L a mujer fue y se lo contó a su marido, diciendo: «Un varón de Dios vino a mí, cuyo aspecto era muy temible como el de un ángel de Dios. No le pregunté de dónde venía ni quién era, ni tampoco él me dijo su nombre.

And the woman came and told her husband, saying, A man of God came to me, and his appearance was like the appearance of an angel of God, very terrible; but I did not ask him whence he was, neither did he tell me his name.

7 P ero sí me dijo: “He aquí que tú concebirás y darás a luz un hijo; por tanto, desde ahora no bebas vino ni sidra, ni comas cosa inmunda, porque este niño será nazareo para Dios desde su nacimiento hasta el día de su muerte.”»

And he said to me, Behold, thou shalt conceive and bear a son; and now drink not wine nor strong drink, and eat not anything unclean; for the boy shall be a Nazarite of God from the womb to the day of his death.

8 E ntonces oró Manoa a Jehová, y dijo: «Ah, Señor mío, yo te ruego que aquel hombre de Dios que enviaste regrese ahora a nosotros y nos enseñe lo que debemos hacer con el niño que ha de nacer.»

Then Manoah prayed to Jehovah, and said, Ah Lord! let the man of God which thou didst send come again unto us, I pray thee, and teach us what we shall do unto the child that shall be born.

9 D ios oyó la voz de Manoa. Hallándose la mujer en el campo, el ángel de Dios vino otra vez a ella; pero Manoa, su marido, no estaba presente.

And God hearkened to the voice of Manoah; and the Angel of God came again to the woman whilst she sat in the field; but Manoah her husband was not with her.

10 L a mujer corrió prontamente a avisar a su marido, diciéndole: «Mira que se me ha aparecido aquel hombre que vino a mí el otro día.»

Then the woman hasted and ran, and informed her husband, and said to him, Behold, the man has appeared to me, that came to me that day.

11 S e levantó Manoa y fue con ella a donde estaba el hombre, y le dijo: —¿Eres tú el hombre que habló con mi mujer? Él respondió: —Yo soy.

And Manoah rose up and went after his wife, and came to the man, and said to him, Art thou the man that didst speak to the woman? And he said, I am.

12 E ntonces Manoa le preguntó: —Cuando tus palabras se cumplan, ¿cuál debe ser la manera de vivir del niño y qué debemos hacer con él?

And Manoah said, When thy words then come to pass, what shall be the child's manner and his doing?

13 E l ángel de Jehová contestó a Manoa: —La mujer se guardará de todas las cosas que yo le dije:

And the Angel of Jehovah said to Manoah, Of all that I said unto the woman let her beware:

14 N o tomará nada que proceda de la vid, no beberá vino ni sidra, ni comerá cosa inmunda. Guardará todo lo que le mandé.

she shall not eat of anything that cometh of the vine, neither shall she drink wine or strong drink, nor eat anything unclean: all that I commanded her shall she observe.

15 E ntonces Manoa dijo al ángel de Jehová: —Te ruego que nos permitas detenerte, y te prepararemos un cabrito.

And Manoah said to the Angel of Jehovah, I pray thee, let us detain thee, and we will make ready a kid of the goats for thee.

16 E l ángel de Jehová respondió a Manoa: —Aunque me detengas, no comeré de tu pan; pero si quieres hacer un holocausto, ofrécelo a Jehová. (Manoa no sabía aún que aquel hombre era el ángel de Jehová.)

And the Angel of Jehovah said to Manoah, Though thou shouldest detain me, I will not eat of thy bread; and if thou wilt offer a burnt-offering, thou shalt offer it up to Jehovah. For Manoah knew not that he was the Angel of Jehovah.

17 E ntonces preguntó Manoa al ángel de Jehová: —¿Cuál es tu nombre, para que cuando se cumpla tu palabra te honremos?

And Manoah said to the Angel of Jehovah, What is thy name, that when thy word cometh to pass we may do thee honour?

18 E l ángel de Jehová respondió: —¿Por qué preguntas por mi nombre, que es un nombre admirable?

And the Angel of Jehovah said to him, How is it that thou askest after my name, seeing it is wonderful?

19 T omó, pues, Manoa un cabrito y una ofrenda, y los ofreció sobre una peña a Jehová. Entonces el ángel hizo un milagro ante los ojos de Manoa y de su mujer.

Then Manoah took the kid and the oblation, and offered it up to Jehovah upon the rock. And he did wondrously, and Manoah and his wife looked on.

20 P orque aconteció que cuando la llama subió del altar hacia el cielo, Manoa y su mujer vieron al ángel de Jehová subir en la llama del altar. Entonces se postraron en tierra.

And it came to pass, as the flame went up from off the altar towards the heavens, that the Angel of Jehovah ascended in the flame of the altar; and Manoah and his wife looked on, and fell on their faces to the ground.

21 M anoa supo entonces que era el ángel de Jehová, pues no se les volvió a aparecer ni a él ni a su mujer.

And the Angel of Jehovah appeared no more to Manoah and to his wife. Then Manoah knew that it was the Angel of Jehovah.

22 Y dijo Manoa a su mujer: —Ciertamente moriremos, porque hemos visto a Dios.

And Manoah said to his wife, We shall surely die, because we have seen God.

23 S u mujer le respondió: —Si Jehová nos quisiera matar, no aceptaría de nuestras manos el holocausto y la ofrenda, ni nos hubiera mostrado todas estas cosas, ni ahora nos habría anunciado esto.

But his wife said to him, If Jehovah were pleased to kill us, he would not have received a burnt-offering and an oblation at our hands, neither would he have shewed us all these things, nor would he at this time have told us as these.

24 A su tiempo, la mujer dio a luz un hijo y le puso por nombre Sansón. El niño creció y Jehová lo bendijo.

And the woman bore a son, and called his name Samson. And the child grew, and Jehovah blessed him.

25 E n los campamentos de Dan, entre Zora y Estaol, el espíritu de Jehová comenzó a manifestarse en él.

And the Spirit of Jehovah began to move him at Mahaneh-Dan, between Zoreah and Eshtaol.
