1 A conteció en el mes séptimo que Ismael hijo de Netanías hijo de Elisama, de la descendencia real, junto con algunos oficiales del rey y diez hombres, vino a Gedalías hijo de Ahicam, en Mizpa. Y juntos comieron pan en Mizpa.

And it came to pass in the seventh month, that Ishmael the son of Nethaniah the son of Elishama, of the royal seed, and of the king's chief men, and ten men with him, came to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam unto Mizpah, and there they ate bread together, in Mizpah.

2 D e pronto se levantó Ismael hijo de Netanías, y los diez hombres que con él estaban, e hirieron a espada a Gedalías hijo de Ahicam hijo de Safán, matando así a aquel a quien el rey de Babilonia había puesto para gobernar la tierra.

And Ishmael the son of Nethaniah arose, and the ten men that were with him, and smote Gedaliah the son of Ahikam the son of Shaphan with the sword, and killed him, whom the king of Babylon had appointed over the land.

3 A simismo mató Ismael a todos los judíos que estaban con Gedalías en Mizpa, y a los soldados caldeos que allí estaban.

And Ishmael smote all the Jews that were with him, with Gedaliah, at Mizpah, and the Chaldeans that were found there, the men of war.

4 S ucedió además, al día siguiente de haber matado a Gedalías, cuando aún nadie lo sabía,

And it came to pass the second day after he had killed Gedaliah, and no man knew it,

5 q ue llegaron unos hombres de Siquem, de Silo y de Samaria. Eran ochenta hombres, con la barba rapada, las ropas rasgadas y llenos de rasguños, que en sus manos traían ofrendas e incienso para llevar a la casa de Jehová.

that there came men from Shechem, from Shiloh, and from Samaria, eighty men, having their beards shaven and their clothes rent, and having cut themselves; with oblations and incense in their hand, to bring them to the house of Jehovah.

6 D e Mizpa les salió al encuentro, llorando, Ismael hijo de Netanías. Y aconteció que cuando los encontró, les dijo: «¡Venid a presentaros a Gedalías hijo de Ahicam!»

And Ishmael the son of Nethaniah went forth from Mizpah to meet them, weeping all along as he went; and it came to pass when he met them, he said unto them, Come to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam.

7 C uando ya habían entrado en la ciudad, Ismael hijo de Netanías, junto con sus hombres, los degollaron y los arrojaron a una cisterna.

And it was so, when they came into the midst of the city, that Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, he and the men that were with him, slew them, into the midst of the pit.

8 P ero entre aquellos había diez hombres que dijeron a Ismael: «No nos mates, porque tenemos en el campo reservas de trigo, cebada, aceite y miel.» Y no los mató como había hecho con sus hermanos.

But ten men were found among them that said unto Ishmael, Do not kill us, for we have hidden stores in the field, of wheat, and of barley, and of oil, and of honey. So he forbore, and did not kill them among their brethren.

9 L a cisterna a la que Ismael arrojó los cuerpos de todos los hombres que mató a causa de Gedalías, era la misma que había hecho el rey Asa a causa de Baasa, rey de Israel. Ismael hijo de Netanías la llenó de muertos.

And the pit into which Ishmael had cast all the dead bodies of the men whom he had slain by the side of Gedaliah was the one which Asa the king had made for fear of Baasha king of Israel: Ishmael the son of Nethaniah filled it with the slain.

10 D espués Ismael llevó cautivo a todo el resto del pueblo que estaba en Mizpa, a las hijas del rey y a todo el pueblo que había quedado en Mizpa, el cual había encargado Nabuzaradán, capitán de la guardia, a Gedalías hijo de Ahicam. Los llevó, pues, cautivos Ismael hijo de Netanías y se fue para pasarse a los hijos de Amón.

And Ishmael carried away captive all the remnant of the people that were in Mizpah, the king's daughters, and all the people that remained in Mizpah, whom Nebuzar-adan the captain of the body-guard had committed to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam: Ishmael the son of Nethaniah carried them away captive, and departed to go over to the children of Ammon.

11 J ohanán hijo de Carea y todos los capitanes de la gente de guerra que estaban con él oyeron todo el mal que había hecho Ismael hijo de Netanías.

And Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces that were with him, heard of all the evil that Ishmael the son of Nethaniah had done;

12 E ntonces tomaron a todos los hombres y fueron a pelear contra Ismael hijo de Netanías, a quien hallaron junto al gran estanque que está en Gabaón.

and they took all the men, and went to fight with Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, and found him by the great waters that are at Gibeon.

13 Y sucedió que cuando todo el pueblo que estaba con Ismael vio a Johanán hijo de Carea, y a todos los capitanes de la gente de guerra que estaban con él, se alegraron.

And it came to pass when all the people that were with Ishmael saw Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces that were with him, then they were glad.

14 Y todo el pueblo que Ismael había traído cautivo de Mizpa se volvió y fue con Johanán hijo de Carea.

And all the people that Ishmael had carried away captive from Mizpah turned about and came back, and went to Johanan the son of Kareah.

15 P ero Ismael hijo de Netanías y otros ocho hombres escaparon delante de Johanán y se fueron con los hijos de Amón.

But Ishmael the son of Nethaniah escaped from Johanan with eight men, and went to the children of Ammon.

16 E ntonces Johanán hijo de Carea, junto con todos los capitanes de la gente de guerra que con él estaban, tomaron a todo el resto del pueblo, el cual habían recobrado de Ismael hijo de Netanías, que se lo había llevado de Mizpa después de matar a Gedalías hijo de Ahicam. Eran hombres de guerra, mujeres, niños y eunucos, que Johanán había traído de Gabaón.

Then Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces that were with him, took all the remnant of the people whom he had recovered from Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, from Mizpah, after he had slain Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, the mighty men of war, and the women, and the children, and the eunuchs, whom he had brought again from Gibeon;

17 F ueron y habitaron en Gerut-quimam, que está cerca de Belén, con el fin de continuar su camino hasta entrar en Egipto,

and they departed, and dwelt at Geruth-Chimham, which is by Bethlehem, to go to enter into Egypt,

18 a causa de los caldeos. Ellos temían a los caldeos porque Ismael hijo de Netanías había dado muerte a Gedalías hijo de Ahicam, a quien el rey de Babilonia había puesto para gobernar la tierra.

because of the Chaldeans; for they feared them, because Ishmael the son of Nethaniah had smitten Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, whom the king of Babylon had appointed over the land.
