1 C uando llegaron los días en que David había de morir, le ordenó a Salomón, su hijo:

And the days of David were at hand that he should die; and he enjoined Solomon his son saying,

2 « Yo sigo el camino de todos en la tierra; esfuérzate y sé hombre.

I go the way of all the earth: be of good courage therefore, and be a man;

3 G uarda los preceptos de Jehová, tu Dios, andando en sus caminos y observando sus estatutos y mandamientos, sus decretos y sus testimonios, de la manera que está escrito en la ley de Moisés, para que prosperes en todo lo que hagas y en todo aquello que emprendas;

and keep the charge of Jehovah thy God, to walk in his ways, to keep his statutes, and his commandments, and his ordinances, and his testimonies, as it is written in the law of Moses, that thou mayest prosper in all that thou doest and whithersoever thou turnest thyself;

4 p ara que confirme Jehová la promesa que me hizo diciendo: “Si tus hijos guardan mi camino andando delante de mí con verdad, de todo su corazón y de toda su alma, jamás te faltará un descendiente en el trono de Israel.”

that Jehovah may confirm his word which he spoke concerning me, saying, If thy sons take heed to their way, to walk before me in truth with all their heart and with all their soul, there shall not fail thee, said he, a man upon the throne of Israel.

5 » Ya sabes tú lo que me ha hecho Joab hijo de Sarvia, lo que hizo a dos generales del ejército de Israel, a Abner hijo de Ner y a Amasa hijo de Jeter, cómo los mató, vengando en tiempo de paz la sangre derramada en la guerra, y manchando con sangre de guerra el cinturón que ceñía su cintura y los zapatos que calzaban sus pies.

And thou knowest also what Joab the son of Zeruiah did to me, what he did to the two captains of the hosts of Israel, to Abner the son of Ner, and to Amasa the son of Jether, whom he slew, and shed the blood of war in peace, and put the blood of war upon his girdle that was about his loins, and upon his sandals that were on his feet.

6 T ú, pues, harás conforme a tu sabiduría: no dejarás descender en paz sus canas al seol.

And thou shalt do according to thy wisdom, and not let his hoar head go down to Sheol in peace.

7 P ero con los hijos de Barzilai, el galaadita, tendrás misericordia; que sean de los convidados a tu mesa, pues ellos me trataron de esa manera cuando iba huyendo de Absalón, tu hermano.

But shew kindness to the sons of Barzillai the Gileadite, and let them be of those that eat at thy table; for so they came up to me when I fled because of Absalom thy brother.

8 T ambién tienes contigo a Simei hijo de Gera hijo de Benjamín, de Bahurim, el cual me maldijo con una maldición fuerte el día que yo iba a Mahanaim. Pero él mismo descendió a recibirme al Jordán, y yo le juré por Jehová diciendo: “No te mataré a espada.”

And behold, there is with thee Shimei the son of Gera, the Benjaminite of Bahurim, who cursed me with a grievous curse in the day that I went to Mahanaim; but he came down to meet me at the Jordan, and I swore to him by Jehovah saying, I will not put thee to death with the sword.

9 P ero ahora no lo absolverás, pues eres un hombre sabio y sabes cómo debes tratarlo para que sus canas desciendan con sangre al seol.» Muerte de David

And now hold him not guiltless; for thou art a wise man, and thou shalt know what thou oughtest to do to him; but bring his hoar head down to Sheol with blood.

10 D avid durmió con sus padres y fue sepultado en su ciudad.

And David slept with his fathers, and was buried in the city of David.

11 L os días que reinó David sobre Israel fueron cuarenta años: siete años reinó en Hebrón y treinta y tres años en Jerusalén.

And the days that David reigned over Israel were forty years: he reigned seven years in Hebron, and he reigned thirty-three years in Jerusalem.

12 S alomón se sentó en el trono de David, su padre, y su reino fue muy estable. Salomón afirma su reino

And Solomon sat on the throne of David his father; and his kingdom was established greatly.

13 E ntonces Adonías hijo de Haguit fue a ver a Betsabé, madre de Salomón, y ella le dijo: —¿Vienes en son de paz? —Sí, de paz —respondió él;

And Adonijah the son of Haggith came to Bathsheba the mother of Solomon. And she said, Comest thou peaceably? And he said, Peaceably.

14 y en seguida añadió—: Tengo algo que decirte. —Habla —dijo ella.

And he said, I have something to say to thee. And she said, Speak.

15 É l dijo: —Tú sabes que el reino era mío y que todo Israel había puesto en mí sus ojos para que yo reinara; pero el reino fue traspasado y se le concedió a mi hermano, pues por voluntad de Jehová le pertenecía.

And he said, Thou knowest that the kingdom was mine, and all Israel had set their faces on me that I should reign; but the kingdom is turned about and is become my brother's, for it was his from Jehovah.

16 A hora te hago una petición; no me la niegues. —Habla —le dijo ella.

And now I ask one petition of thee; refuse me not. And she said to him, Speak.

17 É l entonces dijo: —Te ruego que hables al rey Salomón (porque él no te lo negará), para que me dé Abisag, la sunamita, por mujer.

And he said, Speak, I pray thee, to Solomon the king—for he will not refuse thee—that he give me Abishag the Shunammite as wife.

18 — Bien; hablaré por ti al rey —respondió Betsabé.

And Bathsheba said, Well, I will speak for thee to the king.

19 B etsabé fue a ver al rey Salomón para hablarle por Adonías. El rey se levantó a recibirla y se inclinó ante ella; volvió a sentarse en su trono e hizo traer una silla para su madre, que se sentó a su diestra.

And Bathsheba went to king Solomon, to speak to him for Adonijah. And the king rose up to meet her, and bowed himself to her, and sat down on his throne; and he caused a throne to be set for the king's mother, and she sat on his right hand.

20 E ntonces ella dijo: —Una pequeña petición pretendo de ti; no me la niegues. —Pide, madre mía, que yo no te la negaré —respondió el rey.

Then she said, I desire one small petition of thee; refuse me not. And the king said to her, Ask, my mother, for I will not refuse thee.

21 Y ella dijo: —Que se le dé Abisag, la sunamita, por esposa a tu hermano Adonías.

And she said, Let Abishag the Shunammite be given to Adonijah thy brother as wife.

22 — ¿Por qué pides a Abisag, la sunamita, para Adonías? Demanda también el reino para él, pues él es mi hermano mayor y ya tiene también de su parte al sacerdote Abiatar y a Joab hijo de Sarvia —le respondió Salomón a su madre.

And king Solomon answered and said to his mother, And why dost thou ask Abishag the Shunammite for Adonijah? ask for him the kingdom also; for he is mine elder brother; even for him, and for Abiathar the priest, and for Joab the son of Zeruiah.

23 Y el rey Salomón juró por Jehová: «Traiga Dios sobre mí el peor de los castigos, que contra su vida ha hablado Adonías estas palabras.

And king Solomon swore by Jehovah saying, God do so to me, and more also,—Adonijah has spoken this word against his own life!

24 A hora, pues, vive Jehová, quien me ha confirmado y me ha puesto sobre el trono de David, mi padre, quien me ha dado una casa conforme me lo había prometido, que Adonías morirá hoy.»

And now Jehovah liveth, who has established me, and set me on the throne of David my father, and who has made me a house, as he promised, Adonijah shall be put to death this day.

25 E ntonces el rey Salomón envió a Benaía hijo de Joiada, el cual arremetió contra él y lo mató.

And king Solomon sent by the hand of Benaiah the son of Jehoiada; who fell on him, that he died.

26 Y el rey dijo al sacerdote Abiatar: «Vete a Anatot, a tus heredades, pues eres digno de muerte; pero no te mataré hoy, por cuanto has llevado el Arca de Jehová, el Señor, delante de David, mi padre, y además has compartido todas sus aflicciones.»

And the king said to Abiathar the priest, Go to Anathoth, to thine own fields; for thou art worthy of death; but I will not at this time put thee to death, because thou didst bear the ark of Adonai Jehovah before David my father, and because thou hast been afflicted in all wherein my father was afflicted.

27 A sí echó Salomón a Abiatar del sacerdocio de Jehová, para que se cumpliera la palabra que Jehová pronunció en Silo sobre la casa de Elí.

And Solomon thrust out Abiathar from being priest to Jehovah, to fulfil the word of Jehovah, which he had spoken concerning the house of Eli in Shiloh.

28 L legó la noticia a Joab, y como también se había adherido a Adonías, si bien no se había adherido a Absalón, huyó Joab al tabernáculo de Jehová y se asió de los cuernos del altar.

And the report came to Joab (for Joab had turned after Adonijah, though he had not turned after Absalom); and Joab fled to the tent of Jehovah, and caught hold of the horns of the altar.

29 S e le avisó a Salomón que Joab había huido al tabernáculo de Jehová y que estaba junto al altar. Entonces envió Salomón a Benaía hijo de Joiada, con esta orden: «Ve y arremete contra él.»

And it was told king Solomon that Joab had fled to the tent of Jehovah; and behold, he is by the altar. And Solomon sent Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, saying, Go, fall on him.

30 E ntró Benaía al tabernáculo de Jehová, y le dijo: —El rey ha dicho que salgas. —No, sino que aquí moriré —respondió él. Benaía volvió con esta respuesta al rey, y le dijo: —Así me respondió Joab.

And Benaiah came to the tent of Jehovah and said to him, Thus saith the king: Come forth. And he said, No; for I will die here. And Benaiah brought the king word again, saying, Thus said Joab, and thus he answered me.

31 E l rey le dijo: —Haz como él ha dicho: mátalo y entiérralo, y aparta de mí y de la casa de mi padre la sangre que Joab ha derramado injustamente.

And the king said to him, Do as he has said, and fall upon him, and bury him; and take away the innocent blood, which Joab shed, from me and from the house of my father.

32 J ehová hará caer su sangre sobre su cabeza, porque él ha dado muerte a dos hombres más justos y mejores que él, a los cuales mató a espada sin que mi padre David supiera nada: a Abner hijo de Ner, general del ejército de Israel, y a Amasa hijo de Jeter, general del ejército de Judá.

And Jehovah shall requite the blood which he shed upon his own head, because he fell upon two men more righteous and better than he, and slew them with the sword, without my father David's knowledge: Abner the son of Ner, captain of the host of Israel, and Amasa the son of Jether, captain of the host of Judah.

33 A sí pues, la sangre de ellos recaerá sobre la cabeza de Joab y sobre la cabeza de su descendencia para siempre; pero sobre David y sobre su descendencia, sobre su casa y sobre su trono, habrá paz perpetua de parte de Jehová.

And their blood shall be requited upon the head of Joab, and upon the head of his seed for ever; but upon David, and upon his seed, and upon his house, and upon his throne, shall there be peace for ever from Jehovah.

34 E ntonces Benaía hijo de Joiada subió, arremetió contra él y lo mató; y fue sepultado en su casa en el desierto.

And Benaiah the son of Jehoiada went up and fell upon him, and put him to death; and he was buried in his own house in the wilderness.

35 E l rey puso en su lugar a Benaía hijo de Joiada al frente del ejército, y a Sadoc el rey lo puso como sacerdote en lugar de Abiatar.

And the king put Benaiah the son of Jehoiada in his stead over the host; and Zadok the priest the king put in the stead of Abiathar.

36 D espués mandó a llamar el rey a Simei, y le dijo: —Edifícate una casa en Jerusalén y habita ahí, no salgas de allí a ninguna parte;

And the king sent and called for Shimei, and said to him, Build thee a house in Jerusalem, and abide there, and go not forth thence anywhere.

37 p orque ten por cierto que el día que salgas y pases el torrente Cedrón, sin duda morirás, y tu sangre caerá sobre tu cabeza.

And it shall be that on the day thou goest forth, and passest over the torrent of Kidron, … know for certain that thou shalt surely die: thy blood shall be upon thine own head.

38 S imei dijo al rey: —Tu palabra es buena; como el rey mi señor ha dicho, así lo hará tu siervo. Y habitó Simei en Jerusalén muchos días.

And Shimei said to the king, The saying is good: as my lord the king has said, so will thy servant do. And Shimei dwelt in Jerusalem many days.

39 P ero pasados tres años, aconteció que dos siervos de Simei huyeron junto a Aquis hijo de Maaca, rey de Gat. Alguien dio aviso a Simei diciendo: «Tus siervos están en Gat.»

And it came to pass at the end of three years, that two servants of Shimei's ran away to Achish son of Maachah, king of Gath. And they told Shimei saying, Behold, thy servants are in Gath.

40 E ntonces Simei se levantó, ensilló su asno y fue adonde estaba Aquis, en Gat, para buscar a sus siervos. Fue, pues, Simei, y trajo sus siervos de Gat.

Then Shimei arose, and saddled his ass, and went to Gath, to Achish, to seek his servants; and Shimei went, and brought his servants from Gath.

41 L uego le dijeron a Salomón que Simei había ido de Jerusalén hasta Gat, y regresado.

And it was told Solomon that Shimei had gone from Jerusalem to Gath, and had come again.

42 E ntonces el rey mandó a buscar a Simei, y le dijo: «¿No te hice jurar yo por Jehová, y te advertí diciendo: “El día que salgas y vayas acá o allá, ten por cierto que morirás”? Y tú me dijiste: “Tu palabra es buena, yo la obedezco.”

And the king sent and called for Shimei, and said to him, Did I not make thee swear by Jehovah, and protest to thee, saying, Know for certain, that on the day thou goest forth, and walkest abroad anywhere, thou shalt surely die? and thou saidst to me, The word that I have heard is good.

43 ¿ Por qué, pues, no guardaste el juramento de Jehová, y el mandamiento que yo te impuse?»

Why then hast thou not kept the oath of Jehovah, and the commandment that I charged thee with?

44 D ijo además el rey a Simei: «Tú conoces todo el mal, el cual tu corazón bien sabe que cometiste contra mi padre David. Jehová, pues, ha hecho recaer el mal sobre tu cabeza.

And the king said to Shimei, Thou knowest all the wickedness of which thy heart is conscious, which thou didst to David my father; and Jehovah returns thy wickedness upon thine own head;

45 E n cambio, el rey Salomón será bendito, y el trono de David permanecerá firme perpetuamente delante de Jehová.»

and king Solomon shall be blessed, and the throne of David shall be established before Jehovah for ever.

46 E ntonces el rey mandó a Benaía hijo de Joiada, el cual salió, lo hirió y lo mató. Y el reino fue confirmado en manos de Salomón.

And the king commanded Benaiah the son of Jehoiada; who went out and fell upon him, and he died. And the kingdom was established in the hand of Solomon.
