1 L legaron, pues, los dos ángeles a Sodoma a la caída de la tarde; y Lot estaba sentado a la puerta de Sodoma. Al verlos, Lot se levantó a recibirlos, se inclinó hacia el suelo

And the two angels came to Sodom at even. And Lot was sitting in the gate of Sodom. And Lot saw them, and rose up to meet them; and he bowed down, the face toward the ground,

2 y les dijo: —Ahora, mis señores, os ruego que vengáis a casa de vuestro siervo para alojaros y lavar vuestros pies. Por la mañana os levantaréis y seguiréis vuestro camino. Ellos respondieron: —No, esta noche nos quedaremos en la calle.

and he said, Behold now, my lords, turn in, I pray you, into your servant's house, and lodge, and wash your feet; and ye shall rise up early, and go on your way. And they said, No; but we will pass the night in the open place.

3 P ero Lot porfió tanto con ellos que fueron con él y entraron en su casa. Allí les hizo banquete, coció panes sin levadura y comieron.

And he urged them greatly; and they turned in unto him, and entered into his house. And he made them a repast, and baked unleavened cakes; and they ate.

4 P ero, antes que se acostaran, rodearon la casa los hombres de la ciudad, los varones de Sodoma, todo el pueblo, desde el más joven hasta el más viejo.

Before they lay down, the men of the city, the men of Sodom, surrounded the house, from the youngest to the oldest—all the people from every quarter.

5 Y llamaron a Lot, gritando: —¿Dónde están los hombres que vinieron a ti esta noche? Sácalos, para que los conozcamos.

And they called to Lot, and said to him, Where are the men that have come in to thee to-night? bring them out to us that we may know them.

6 E ntonces Lot salió a ellos a la puerta, cerró la puerta tras sí

And Lot went out to them to the entrance, and shut the door after him,

7 y dijo: —Os ruego, hermanos míos, que no hagáis tal maldad.

and said, I pray you, my brethren, do not wickedly!

8 M irad, yo tengo dos hijas que no han conocido varón; os las traeré y podréis hacer con ellas lo que bien os parezca; solamente que a estos varones no les hagáis nada, ya que han venido al amparo de mi tejado.

Behold now, I have two daughters who have not known a man: let me now bring them out to you; and do to them as is good in your sight: only, to these men do nothing; for therefore have they come under the shadow of my roof.

9 E llos respondieron: —¡Quítate de ahí! Y añadieron: —Vino este extraño para habitar entre nosotros, ¿y habrá de erigirse en juez? Ahora te trataremos peor que a ellos. Enseguida comenzaron a forcejear con Lot, y se acercaron para romper la puerta.

And they said, Back there! And they said, This one came to sojourn, and he must be a judge? Now we will deal worse with thee than with them. And they pressed hard on the man—on Lot; and drew near to break the door.

10 P ero los huéspedes alargaron la mano, metieron a Lot en la casa con ellos y cerraron la puerta.

And the men stretched out their hand, and brought Lot into the house to them, and shut the door.

11 Y a los hombres que estaban a la puerta de la casa los hirieron con ceguera, desde el menor hasta el mayor, de manera que se fatigaban buscando la puerta.

And they smote the men that were at the entrance of the house with blindness, from the smallest to the greatest; and they wearied themselves to find the entrance.

12 D espués dijeron los huéspedes a Lot: —¿Tienes aquí alguno más? Saca de este lugar a tus yernos, hijos e hijas, y todo lo que tienes en la ciudad,

And the men said to Lot, Whom hast thou here besides? a son-in-law, and thy sons, and thy daughters, and all whom thou hast in the city—bring out of the place.

13 p orque vamos a destruir este lugar, por cuanto el clamor contra la gente de esta ciudad ha subido de punto delante de Jehová. Por tanto, Jehová nos ha enviado a destruirla.

For we are going to destroy this place, because the cry of them is great before Jehovah, and Jehovah has sent us to destroy it.

14 E ntonces salió Lot y habló a sus yernos, los que habían de tomar sus hijas, y les dijo: —¡Levantaos, salid de este lugar, porque Jehová va a destruir esta ciudad! Pero sus yernos pensaron que bromeaba.

And Lot went out, and spoke to his sons-in-law, who had married his daughters, and said, Up, go out of this place, for Jehovah will destroy the city. But he was as if he jested, in the sight of his sons-in-law.

15 Y al rayar el alba los ángeles daban prisa a Lot, diciendo: —Levántate, toma a tu mujer y a tus dos hijas que se hallan aquí, para que no perezcas en el castigo de la ciudad.

And as the dawn arose, the angels urged Lot, saying, Up, take thy wife and thy two daughters who are present, lest thou perish in the iniquity of the city.

16 C omo él se demoraba, los varones los asieron de la mano, a él, a su mujer y a sus dos hijas, según la misericordia de Jehová para con él; lo sacaron y lo pusieron fuera de la ciudad.

And as he lingered, the men laid hold on his hand, and on the hand of his wife, and on the hand of his two daughters, Jehovah being merciful to him; and they led him out, and set him without the city.

17 C uando ya estaban fuera, le dijeron: —Escapa por tu vida; no mires atrás ni te detengas en ningún lugar de esta llanura; escapa al monte, no sea que perezcas.

And it came to pass when they had brought them outside, that he said, Escape for thy life: look not behind thee, neither stay thou in all the plain: escape to the mountain, lest thou perish.

18 P ero Lot les dijo: —No, yo os ruego, señores míos.

And Lot said to them, Not, I pray thee, Lord;

19 V uestro siervo ha hallado gracia en vuestros ojos y habéis tenido mucha misericordia conmigo al salvarme la vida, pero no podré escapar al monte, no sea que me alcance el mal y muera.

behold now, thy servant has found favour in thine eyes, and thou hast magnified thy goodness, which thou hast shewn to me in preserving my soul alive; but I cannot escape to the mountain, lest calamity lay hold on me, that I die.

20 C erca de aquí hay una pequeña ciudad, a la cual puedo huir. Dejadme ir allá (¿no es en verdad pequeña?) y salvaré mi vida.

Behold now, this city is near to flee to, and it is small: I pray thee, let me escape thither—is it not small?—and my soul shall live.

21 U no de ellos le respondió: —También he escuchado tu súplica sobre esto, y no destruiré la ciudad de que has hablado.

And he said to him, Behold, I have accepted thee concerning this thing also, that I will not overthrow the city of which thou hast spoken.

22 D ate prisa y escápate allá, porque nada podré hacer hasta que hayas llegado. Por eso fue llamado Zoar el nombre de la ciudad.

Haste, escape thither; for I cannot do anything until thou art come there. Therefore the name of the city is called Zoar.

23 E l sol salía sobre la tierra cuando Lot llegó a Zoar.

The sun rose upon the earth when Lot came to Zoar.

24 E ntonces Jehová hizo llover desde los cielos azufre y fuego sobre Sodoma y sobre Gomorra;

And Jehovah rained on Sodom and Gomorrah brimstone and fire from Jehovah out of heaven,

25 y destruyó las ciudades y toda aquella llanura, con todos los habitantes de aquellas ciudades y el fruto de la tierra.

and overthrew those cities, and all the plain, and all the inhabitants of the cities, and what grew upon the ground.

26 E ntonces la mujer de Lot miró atrás, a espaldas de él, y se volvió estatua de sal.

And his wife looked back from behind him, and she became a pillar of salt.

27 S ubió Abraham por la mañana al lugar donde había estado delante de Jehová.

And Abraham rose early in the morning to the place where he had stood before Jehovah;

28 M iró hacia Sodoma y Gomorra, y hacia toda la tierra de aquella llanura, y vio que el humo subía de la tierra como el humo de un horno.

and he looked toward Sodom and Gomorrah, and toward all the land of the plain, and beheld, and lo, a smoke went up from the land as the smoke of a furnace.

29 A sí, cuando Dios destruyó las ciudades de la llanura, se acordó de Abraham, y sacó a Lot de en medio de la destrucción con que asoló las ciudades donde Lot estaba.

And it came to pass when God destroyed the cities of the plain, that God remembered Abraham, and sent Lot out of the midst of the overthrow, when he overthrew the cities in which Lot dwelt.

30 P ero Lot subió de Zoar y habitó en el monte, junto a sus dos hijas, porque tuvo miedo de quedarse en Zoar. Él y sus dos hijas habitaron en una cueva.

And Lot went up from Zoar, and dwelt in the mountain, and his two daughters with him; for he feared to dwell in Zoar. And he dwelt in a cave, he and his two daughters.

31 E ntonces la mayor dijo a la menor: —Nuestro padre es viejo y no queda hombre en la tierra que se una a nosotras, conforme a la costumbre de toda la tierra.

And the first-born said to the younger, Our father is old, and there is not a man in the land to come in to us after the manner of all the earth:

32 V en, demos a beber vino a nuestro padre; durmamos con él, y conservaremos de nuestro padre descendencia.

come, let us give our father wine to drink, and let us lie with him, that we may preserve seed alive of our father.

33 D ieron a beber vino a su padre aquella noche, y entró la mayor y durmió con su padre; pero él no sintió cuándo se acostó ella ni cuándo se levantó.

And they gave their father wine to drink that night. And the first-born went in, and lay with her father, and he did not know of her lying down, nor of her rising.

34 A l día siguiente dijo la mayor a la menor: —Yo dormí la noche pasada con mi padre; démosle a beber vino también esta noche, y entra tú y duerme con él, para que conservemos de nuestro padre descendencia.

And it came to pass on the next day that the first-born said to the younger, Lo, I lay last night with my father: let us give him wine to drink to-night also, and go thou in, lie with him, that we may preserve seed alive of our father.

35 D ieron, pues, a beber vino a su padre también aquella noche, y se levantó la menor y durmió con él; pero él no echó de ver cuándo se acostó ella ni cuándo se levantó.

And they gave their father wine to drink that night also. And the younger arose, and lay with him; and he did not know of her lying down, nor of her rising.

36 L as dos hijas de Lot concibieron de su padre.

And both the daughters of Lot were with child by their father.

37 L a mayor dio a luz un hijo, y le puso por nombre Moab, el cual es padre de los actuales moabitas.

And the first-born bore a son, and called his name Moab: the same is the father of the Moabites to this day.

38 L a menor también dio a luz un hijo, y llamó su nombre Ben-ammi, el cual es padre de los actuales amonitas.

And the younger, she also bore a son, and called his name Ben-ammi; the same is the father of the children of Ammon to this day.
