1 E n el tercer año de Ciro, rey de Persia, fue revelada palabra a Daniel, llamado Beltsasar. La palabra era verdadera y el conflicto grande, pero él comprendió la palabra y tuvo inteligencia en la visión.

In the third year of Cyrus king of Persia a thing was revealed unto Daniel, whose name was called Belteshazzar; and the thing is true, but the appointed time of trial is long; and he understood the thing, and had understanding of the vision.

2 « En aquellos días yo, Daniel, estuve afligido por espacio de tres semanas.

In those days I Daniel was mourning three full weeks:

3 N o comí manjar delicado, ni entró en mi boca carne ni vino, ni me ungí con perfume, hasta que se cumplieron las tres semanas.

I ate no pleasant bread, neither came flesh nor wine into my mouth, neither did I anoint myself at all, till three full weeks were fulfilled.

4 E l día veinticuatro del primer mes estaba yo a la orilla del gran río Hidekel.

And on the four-and-twentieth day of the first month, I was by the side of the great river, which is Hiddekel:

5 A lcé mis ojos y miré, y vi un varón vestido de lino y ceñida su cintura con oro de Ufaz.

and I lifted up mine eyes and looked, and behold, a certain man clothed in linen, and his loins were girded with pure gold of Uphaz;

6 S u cuerpo era como de berilo, su rostro parecía un relámpago, sus ojos como antorchas de fuego, sus brazos y sus pies como de color de bronce bruñido, y el sonido de sus palabras como el estruendo de una multitud.

and his body was like a chrysolite, and his face as the appearance of lightning, and his eyes as torches of fire, and his arms and his feet as the look of burnished brass, and the voice of his words like the voice of a multitude.

7 » Sólo yo, Daniel, vi aquella visión. No la vieron los hombres que estaban conmigo, sino que se apoderó de ellos un gran temor y huyeron y se escondieron.

And I Daniel alone saw the vision; and the men that were with me saw not the vision, but a great quaking fell on them, and they fled to hide themselves.

8 Q uedé, pues, yo solo ante esta gran visión, pero no quedaron fuerzas en mí, antes bien, mis fuerzas se cambiaron en desfallecimiento, pues me abandonaron totalmente.

And I was left alone, and saw this great vision, and there remained no strength in me; and my comeliness was turned in me into corruption, and I retained no strength.

9 P ero oí el sonido de sus palabras; y al oír el sonido de sus palabras caí sobre mi rostro en un profundo sueño, con mi rostro en tierra.

And I heard the voice of his words; and when I heard the voice of his words, I fell into a deep stupor on my face, and my face to the ground.

10 Y una mano me tocó e hizo que me pusiera sobre mis rodillas y sobre las palmas de mis manos.

And behold, a hand touched me, which set me upon my knees and the palms of my hands.

11 M e dijo: “Daniel, varón muy amado, está atento a las palabras que he de decirte y ponte en pie, porque a ti he sido enviado ahora.” »Mientras hablaba esto conmigo, me puse en pie temblando.

And he said unto me, O Daniel, man greatly beloved, understand the words which I speak unto thee, and stand upright; for unto thee am I now sent. And as he spoke this word unto me, I stood trembling.

12 E ntonces me dijo: “Daniel, no temas, porque desde el primer día que dispusiste tu corazón a entender y a humillarte en la presencia de tu Dios, fueron oídas tus palabras; y a causa de tus palabras yo he venido.

And he said unto me, Fear not, Daniel; for from the first day that thou didst set thy heart to understand, and to humble thyself before thy God, thy words were heard, and I am come because of thy words.

13 M as el príncipe del reino de Persia se me opuso durante veintiún días; pero Miguel, uno de los principales príncipes, vino para ayudarme, y quedé allí con los reyes de Persia.

But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me one and twenty days; and behold, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me; and I remained there with the kings of Persia.

14 H e venido para hacerte saber lo que ha de sucederle a tu pueblo en los últimos días, porque la visión es para esos días.”

And I am come to make thee understand what shall befall thy people at the end of the days: for the vision is yet for days.

15 » Mientras me decía estas palabras, yo tenía los ojos puestos en tierra y había enmudecido.

And as he was speaking with me according to these words, I set my face toward the ground, and I became dumb.

16 P ero uno con semejanza de hijo de hombre tocó mis labios. Entonces abrí la boca y hablé, y dije al que estaba delante de mí: “Señor mío, con la visión me han sobrevenido dolores y no me quedan fuerzas.

And behold, one after the likeness of the sons of men touched my lips; and I opened my mouth and spoke, and said unto him that stood before me, My lord, by reason of the vision my pains are turned upon me, and I retain no strength.

17 ¿ Cómo, pues, podrá el siervo de mi señor hablar con mi señor? Porque al instante me faltaron las fuerzas, y no me quedó aliento.”

And how can the servant of this my lord talk with this my lord? for as for me, straightway there remaineth no strength in me, neither is there breath left in me.

18 » Aquel que tenía semejanza de hombre me tocó otra vez, me fortaleció

Then there touched me again one like the appearance of a man, and he strengthened me;

19 y me dijo: “Muy amado, no temas; la paz sea contigo; esfuérzate y cobra aliento.” Mientras él me hablaba, recobré las fuerzas y dije: “Hable mi señor, porque me has fortalecido.”

and he said, Fear not, man greatly beloved; peace be unto thee, be strong, yea, be strong. And as he was speaking with me I was strengthened, and I said, Let my lord speak; for thou hast strengthened me.

20 É l me dijo: “¿Sabes por qué he venido a ti? Ahora tengo que volver para pelear contra el príncipe de Persia; al terminar con él, el príncipe de Grecia vendrá.

And he said, Knowest thou wherefore I am come unto thee? And now I return to fight with the prince of Persia; and when I go forth, behold, the prince of Greece shall come.

21 P ero yo te declararé lo que está escrito en el libro de la verdad: nadie me ayuda contra ellos, sino Miguel vuestro príncipe.”

However, I will declare unto thee that which is set down in the scripture of truth; and there is not one that sheweth himself strong with me against these, but Michael your prince.
